Approximately 7 billion people live in the world and the number is getting higher every day. How many people have internet access? Roughly 3 billion people have access to the internet. No wonder online education is on the rise. But why? What is so wrong with a traditional education. Why are more colleges offering online courses? Why are more kids being homeschooled? Even though you won't meet a lot of new people, experience a lot of different cultures, or even become that social butterfly, for people who do not function well in a traditional classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. For stay at home parents or even single parents, it might be hard to get an education on your schedule. For military families, you may move all over, going from school to school, never really continuing what your learning from school to school. Distance education can keep you connected to your school anywhere you are. First, for people who do not function very well in a traditional classroom, I think you should choose distance education over traditional education. Distance education, or homeschooling, allows for more individualized instruction, based on the students needs. It isn't as structured as a traditional education. According to Redford, Battle, and Bielick (20707), the most important reason parents are homeschooling was the environment of other schools. Other reasons include providing religious instruction, provide a nontraditional approach to the students education, and to provide moral instruction (p. 12). In public or private school, you have no control over what your child is learning and how they are learning it. With distance education, or homeschooling, you can. Are you afraid they will miss out on the opptunities that traditional schools provide. A friend of mine home schools her children after a few years of being in a public school system. They belong to a local co-op where all the other distance education students and families get together and play sports, interact, even have a prom for high school students. Your student can now participate in distance education and get the same opportunity as a traditional education. Additionally, for stay at home parents or single
“Can You Be Educated from a Distance,” an insightful essay by James Barszcz, brings to focus some of the benefits and disadvantages of Distance Learning education (DL). In it, Barszcz discusses the mechanics of DL courses available to students, the quality of education DL can offer, and some reasoning behind its rapidly growing popularity. “Can You Be Educated from a Distance” is an engaging article that students of all ages can benefit from.
Many students have a difficult time choosing between online education and traditional education. Both styles of education offer advantages and disadvantages to the student. There are many things to consider when making this life altering decision, such as, cost, convenience, time, social interaction, and technology. This information is meant to inform prospective students looking to further their education of the pros and cons of both online education and traditional education. Taking the steps to further your education is a big decision and one that should not be taken lightly. One should weigh all of his/her options and be well informed and certain of their choice before taking that leap.
I’ve experienced the differences between online school and traditional public school. The classroom setting was not a good fit and was very distracting. It was extremely difficult for me to learn and receive the proper information I needed to do well. I was unable to learn because of the fast pace, I and often had difficulty paying attention and keeping up with the assignments. However, the motivation the teachers gave me was tremendously helpful while I was
Distance learning (education) is a modern system of non- formal education. There are different terms used for
First, there is the fact that schools can only teach so many classes. This is becoming more distinct to many students across America, as budget cuts have eliminated some classes from a student’s choices. Having school online could solve that problem, as Andrew Wyrich wrote in the article, “Making a Virtual School Day Count.” Although this is true, there are other skills students are losing by doing online school. In Utah, a program was piloted in which children were provided an online preschool program in exchange for traditional preschool, as Emma Brown explains. “It’s also missing some ingredients- especially social and emotional learning- that many experts and parents consider central to the education of
However, there are quite a few discussions on bringing a new type of school to light. Two of the articles I found “ A School for the future- 2025: Practical Futures Thinking” and Online Versus Traditional Face-To-Face Learning In a Large Introductory Course discusses the different types of schooling that could happen but not for quite some time. The articles focus on two classroom options, the face-to –face that we have now, and the online course. The studies showed that there was no real difference between scores for the two different classroom types. While there were no significant differences there are some clear benefits to using online courses. One of those benefits is cost-effectiveness. The courses could also be easier to schedule and students might actually be satisfied with convince, flexibility and independent learning. While it might be nice to not have to leave my house to go to school I do not think I would be as motivated to go to school if I had the choice to go. I mean right now I have the choice to go to school or not but my grade also depends on my attendance in my classes. If attendance is not part of your grade how many students will log onto their online class instead of logging onto
Tom Gilman, an academic librarian at Yale University, composes the article, “Combating Myths About Distance Education,” in the February 2010 edition of Chronicle of Higher Education. Gilman focuses all of his ideas onto what people currently misbelieve about online education, and then, contributes information that could provide evidence that online education is still a challenge and beneficial to students and faculty. He initially informs his audience on the type of difficulties that professors could have if they come from just physical classroom teaching styles such as, “changing the schedule of what is to be covered and altering assignment deadlines can cause chaos” (102). Gilman decides before this statement that teachers in physical classrooms
There is both good and bad to online schools and every side does have a great opposition. Normally, as a person goes through school they gain many or all of the social skills needed from meeting, greeting and learning from other students. In theory it is great, although there are very many arguments that can be made against this as well. Like people that live far away from the school where it is an inconvenience to travel that far or students that have behavior issues, and also students that would like to do their schooling at home because of their very busy schedule. Online schooling would be a great way to help out the students facing all of these issues or problems.
Some people say that being home schooled is not as beneficial as public school. However, I feel that being home schooled is more beneficial. Even though some may argue that the child loses social contact and socialization skills not everyone can learn in a large social setting. I think learning in a setting where you get more one on one contact is more beneficial. Second, there are less distractions when your learning at home. Also, everyone learns differently and your learning coach can teach you in a way you can understand. Lastly, some people have learning disabilities and some have disabilities that don't only affect their learning but their concentration as well, so eliminating the distractions and putting you in a setting where your
When you’re deciding which is best for you. The most important factor is the education that you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging receiving the best education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there’s no interruptions, then teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent education but that’s rear. While in online homeschool there’s no interruptions and your teacher will have a one on one interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you wouldn’t be doing the same thing as other students because is based on each individual.
people don’t know wither or not to make the transition into technology or to stay with the old ways. One can’t blame them either, there are many things that can contribute to a person wanting to reform transition to newer technology. These disadvantages consist of lack funds, lack of focus, social problems, accessibility, and several other problems. In contrast, what it has in disadvantages it makes up for in advantages. Distance learning can provide individuals along with a massive corporation with great advantages. The advantages consist of factors such as flexibility, advancing technology skills, accessibility to thoughts who may have a tough time making it to class, eliminates some anxiety, better time efficiency, and allows one to learn at their own pace. To assess wither, or not distance learning is positive or negative one need to have an understanding what exactly distance is.
With the surge in technological innovations in the past decade, technology has become an integral part of everyday life, including in education. Educators are constantly discovering and seeking out new ways to implement technology to the benefit of their students. One of the most critical areas in early childhood education is the development of reading, and literacy continues to be one of the most important subjects throughout all of education. This is why building that strong foundation in literacy is so important, and online reading skill development is one of the newest endeavours into encouraging this strong start.
