Eating a diet rich in nutrient dense foods combined with a regular moderate exercise routine also reduces overall body fat. Poor eating habits have been linked to four of the seven leading causes of death in the United States. Over the last few years I have made several attempts at eating healthier including Beach Body’s 21 Day Fix Diet and the Mediterranean Diet. I was not successful with either of these. Recently I have started focusing on making more balanced meals that include a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. After reading through the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, I see that I still have some work to do. The USDA suggests that a variety of vegetables be consumed, with emphasis
This article was to examine how the US government uses dietary guidelines for Americans and how the guidelines were supposed to help us eat and stay healthy. Diet and chronic diseases are sometimes connected. For example, it is proven that nutrient deficiency disease like scurvy can be cured by consuming the lost nutrients. However, it is also shown that some nutrient exposure can cause chronic illness such as energy, fats, sodium dietary fiber, and food exposures, etc. making it difficult to set dietary guidelines. In addition to some nutrient causing chronic diseases, nondietary factors such as stress, lack of exercise, smoking and other environmental factors are linked to causing chronic illnesses (Slavin, 2012).

The goal of the document is to increase knowledge and to put what is learned into action by facilitating heathy eating as well as regular physical activity, with its latter purpose of improving the health of all Americans ages two years and older.
The main aim of the policy is to shape individuals ' eating methodologies, as Americans ought to give more attention to the sustainability of the food they eat. Though there are many guidelines published on Dietary issues, people couldn’t find much information on the type of foods, which keeps them healthy. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans: 2015-2020, eighth edition, which was released on January 7, 2016, was very resourceful.

Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously

The United States has progressed from a rural, agricultural nation to an urbanized industrial one in just the last two centuries. Through this the transformation of the American lifestyles have changed drastically. Other countries focus on eating well, excercise, and taking enough time to eat and enjoying what they are eating. One lifestyle that many Americans have adapted to is the Western Diet, but today around the world the Western Diet is not viewed as the most nutritious or beneficial diet for humans. The nutritional patterns of high-fat and cholesterol, high protein, high sugar, and excessive salt intake, as well as the excessive consumption of processed fast foods has collectively defined the Western Diet. Even though this type of
Americans love to eat, but do we actually understand how to eat healthy? In today’s world, everyone wants to be healthy, nonetheless, it seems no one knows how. With the nutritional knowledge of present-day, society’s health should be getting better instead of worse. However, there are so many different ideas regarding food that the public may feel confused. Michael Pollan points out many worthy causes in his book In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto; he tends to overuse quotes and research and uses unseemly portrayals, but he also implements excellent information to make a valid argument.
The Healthy People 2020 document support making this change through the use of statistical evidence, objectives, as well as utilizing credible resources, like the Centers for Disease Control Prevention, to support their goals and outcomes. All across America people choose whether to eat healthy or unhealthy. How can we make healthier choices about what we eat? I chose this because I think that we all should in some way change our eating habits. Making healthy food choices means taking a close look at your current eating habits, and making small changes that add up to new habits and better nutrition. For example, you can eat smaller portion sizes and cut back on eating certain foods or food types. It’s not as if you don’t know which foods are healthy and which ones aren’t. But sometimes it’s difficult to make the right food choices when you’re constantly faced with temptation or don’t have a plan. Not only do you have to make food choices every time you eat a meal or a snack, you’re actually making food choices all day long. Maintaining a healthy diet is much easier than you think, if you know how to make smart food choices. A strong will does not have any problems to go through a food change. The essays that I chose for this are “Eat Food: Food Defined” by Michael Pollan, “The pleasure of Eating” by Wendell Berry, “The Business Case for Healthier Food Options” by Michelle Obama, and “Eating Made simple” by Marion Nestle.
