What is art? The answer to that has been debated for thousands of years. The definition of art is too broad a topic to discuss in just a few words.

Public art, though also varying wildly from piece to piece, can be defined more easily. It's not considered an art form, so to speak, because it can be any piece of art available to the public to view, of any size or medium. This includes sculptures, murals, and architecture. Some people may even consider graffiti to be public art. And it's not just pretty to look at—these pieces can be interactive, allowing spectators to physically engage with them. Public art is unique, exquisite, and one-of-a-kind.

Located on the corner of 14th Street and Peachtree Road, it's a 30-foot-tall statue that, upon a closer look, resembles a woman. She is a member of the Sabines, an ancient Italic tribe.

The story of the Sabine women started with the Romans. The Romans wanted to grow their empire stronger, so they asked if they could intermarry with the women from the neighboring tribe, the Sabines. When they Sabines refused, the Romans crafted a plan to abduct the women at a large festival. The Romans succeeded and forced the women to marry them, although they were welcomed into the society and treated like members. Nevertheless, this caused outrage among the Sabines, so they went to war with the Romans. But by this point, the women felt like they had a place in both societies. So they stood between the opposing sides and said that they would rather lose their own lives than have bloodshed in either group.

The statue is powerful, just like the women it represents, and it tells a meaningful story. However, it's been blatantly disrespected by its owners, North American Properties. It was commissioned by Colony Square in 1969 and designed specifically for the building, but during the late nineties they hid it in a corner of the building where it was both poorly maintained and barely visible.
