Reading through a book and online reading show different works in growth. Online reading “ May be less engaging and less satisfying ‘ as if you were to read into a book and show more progress into being more excited onto what is going to
Reading is a nice way to just sit back and let your imagination be free. In an article titled “How Reading changed my Life” by Anna Quindlen she goes on to talk about how it shaped her as a person and it helps strengthen emotional connectedness. In her book she states, “Socrates was wrong: a reader learns what he or she does not know from books, what has passed and yet is forever present through print”. Ultimately, its about having this joy where we can just grab a book escape and lose yourself in the book, to get lost in the print forgetting about any matters going on in ones life. Being lost and having no care in the world are the reasons to want to grab a book and develop our minds, books will also help shape who we are due to the fact that when we read we are constantly learning new things and educating ourselves. Romanticism can be a feeling used to describe how a reader feels when cracking a brand new book open, the smell of the ink on paper and the creases a book acquires from constant use are physical evidence of the journey the book has taken with its reader that cant be duplicated with an
It allowed me to connect with the author’s thoughts and thoroughly understand the story or novel. Because of this, it caused me to enjoy reading, which I was not particularly fond of before.
Literature is known to have a profound impact on people. It can influence their attitudes, behaviours, beliefs and ultimately, their decision-making process. Reading about the thoughts and stories of other people helps one make moral decisions because it develops one's sense of empathy and it makes one learn more about the world, making them a better person in the end.
If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.
While reading a book that is fiction, you will improve in empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. In fictional books there is mostly people interacting with another. These books help you think and use your brain in the social world. In Always Running, young adults were arguing.
We see from John Green’s video, “Why and How We Read” and Gary Morson’s article, “Why College Kids Are Avoiding the Study of Literature”, that literature is given a bad name because of how it’s being taught, people think it’s a waste of time to learn, because of the unnecessary critical analysis. We can also see that the two articles and video all show us that authors are trying to communicate a message through their writing, and ultimately, teach us something. In both articles and the video, it is emphasized that we build the necessary skills to empathize and communicate with others. Ultimately, we also understand and express our own emotions more efficiently, when we do read. Finally, in “The Business Case for Reading Novels” by Anne Kreamer
When you read books and you read often, you obtain the ability to imagine what you are reading. You can picture any scene and hear what you think their voices sound like. You can smells and hear the things they describe. When you read a book it is like you are there with the characters in the story. When you are reading you become attached to the main character. When they cry, you cry. When they are angry, so are you. The character´s story becomes like another life.
“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are,” (Cooley). Reading has impacted us in many ways throughout our lives. Often time’s books give people different perspectives on their lives. People with high stress levels often find comfort in reading books to take their mind off of their concerns. Sometimes, people just need to take a step back from their life and relax for a while; therefore, reading is a great tool. Reading all kinds of books has also helped me become a better writer. There are many different books that have impacted me over the years.
Since the mid 20th century literature has been a prominent aspect of life in American culture, beginning how to read it in our childhood to benefiting by it throughout adulthood. Throughout the texts of “Heels over Hemingway”, “Why Literature Matters” , and “Good-bad books” all similarly argue the idea that Literature has changed over the years, due to the fact that American has changed as well effecting literature. For this reason Dowd, Orwell, and Gioia assert to their audience the importance of literature, and that it should have a place in society by utilizing rhetorical strategies such as analogy, ethos, pathos, logos, and diction.
Will Schwalbe say, “Reading is one of the few things you do alone that can make you feel less alone.” When it comes to reading I feel that I can relate to the character in some way and this makes the story more appealing. Reading is something I could do by myself to relax me; when I'm reading I prefer there to be no distractions so I can properly lose myself in a book. To put some comfortable clothes on, hot cocoa next to you and to be wrapped around in a warm blanket wearing fuzzy socks, it's just a wonderful feeling to
The book that I am currently reading is titled, That Summer by Sarah Dessen. While, I am reading I noticed I happen to remember events that happen. That’s why I excel in AR tests and get a large amount of points by the end of the year. I also seem to read a lot during my free time besides being on social media. Picking up a book and just reading for a while seems to just relax me and helps me get away from being on the Internet so much. I happen to read for hours at a time, when I do pick up a book. Another thing I can do well is, getting to know my characters. When reading, I connect with the characters on a deeper level. For example, let’s say one of the main character’s family member dies, I will start tearing up and get emotional. I feel like I have known the characters for a long time just because I am along on the journey with them. It feels like I am physically in the story and going through the things with them. I also happen to know complex vocabulary words through how much I read. I use the words that I have learned from reading and use it in my writing.
At the beginning of the passage, Annie Murphy Paul uses the research and findings of a psychologist and professor with knowledge of this topic to prove that reading does indeed benefit people. Murphy includes a report from them stating that “…individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective.” In that same paragraph, Murphy also uses appeal to logic by mentioning that young children who deep read have a keener
In this article, Annie Paul provides important information about “Deep Reading”, which is a vigorous exercise from the brain. It can also increase our real-life capacity for empathy. From many published studies, it is proved that individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize them and view the world from their perspectives.
Raymond Mar, a psychologist at Your University in Canada and Keith Oatley a professor An The University of Toronto, they both say that “individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathies with them and view the world from their perspectives.” I agree that reading certain types of books can help people further understand and see things from a different point of view. Reading helps to open people's eyes and to teach life lessons or to show there are other things to believe in and know other than what they have always been told to know. Getting different types of books, types that are not always the same as the books that you normally read can help you to view things differently. For example from personal experience a new book can help your imagination grow, readings helps me a lot when I need to come up with new ideas for an art class. The new places a book takes you the new images you see while you are reading the new stores you hear and the happy ending your book might have can change the way you are feeling it can brighten up your day.
Reading has at all times and in all ages been a source of knowledge, of happiness, of pleasure and even moral courage. In today's world with so much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of reading has increased. In the olden days if reading was not cultivated or encouraged, there was a substitute for it in the religious sermon and in the oral tradition. The practice of telling stories at bed time compensated to some extent for the lack of reading. In the nineteenth century Victorian households used to get together for an hour or so in the evenings and listen to books being read aloud. But today we not only read, we also want to read more and more and catch up
