The Importance Of Religion

Decent Essays

Religion is the devotion to a faith or observance and accumulates many followers. Today, thousands of religions exist including Quakerism, Hinduism, Islam, Mormonism, Baha'i faith and Atheism. As Zach Anner explored deeper into the different religions through SoulPancake, religion was shown to be a catalyst of how many people live their lives. Religion is centered around how many people live their lives as they seek community, meaning, and family. Community is developed through religion and is an important aspect of how many people live their lives. As Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” This quote reveals the core attributes of community and how it brings people together in fellowship with common goals. Accordingly, this core belief is shown in many religions like Judaism and Buddhism. More specifically, during the time of Sukkot, special plants are combined together. Each plant is a different type and resembles a different person. Therefore, Jews believe, “Every plant represents a different type of person and we only connect to God when we combine all types of people together.” (video 3). Jews feel closer to God when they bring people together and this influences a big aspect of their faith. Bringing people together, this helps Jewish communities build their faith. Also, the aspect of community sets a path for how people live their life. Similarly, the Buddhist inherit this same value that stresses the importance of community. In the Buddhist faith, followers value the teachings of Buddha and strive to be enlightened. Through this path, they are expected to care for and encourage all types of people. By caring for everyone, a sense of community is built which sets the purpose for how Buddhist live their lives. Through the Buddhist and Jewish values, religion is shown to build a community to uplift others. This community builds a purpose for how many people live their lives. In order to enhance religious devotion, communities should be sought after. Religion is the basis for many people to define their role in life and seek true meaning. This is shown through the Atheist Sunday Assembly and the Earth-Based Mystic beliefs.
