The NBA is one of the most entertaining sports known to man. The NBA consists of a lot of highlights, most of the highlights have nothing to do with actually playing basketball. The NBA provides various organizations to help the less fortunate, they also do a lot of camps and gatherings to make better players out of younger kids. Also, the NBA brings so many eye-catching aspects to the game, such as special uniforms for holidays, expensive tennis shoes and amazing in games moves only the best of the best can master. But just like everyone else the NBA isn’t perfect, it’s a game of favoritism and personal agendas. The NBA is getting bigger and bigger every year it continues.
The NBA gives back to the community regularly. Not necessarily the NBA but the players in the NBA. Oklahoma City, Thunder’s point guard Russell Westbrook has his own charity called the Why Not? Foundation. In December on Christmas Russell and his Why Not? Foundation got together with others to give gifts to about 10,000 or more children in foster care. Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol has gave $10,000 to UNICEF to help build safe schools in Africa. He has also pledged to give $1,000 for every shoot he has made in a specific game, to help the Philippines after a hard-hitting typhoon. Back in 2005 the now Huston Rockets point guard Chris Paul was in New Orleans when it was hit by hurricane Katrina. The superstar has help with repairs tremendously, he now has five charities and seven causes he regularly
In sociology, there are 3 paradigms. There is the conflict theory perspective, the symbolic-interaction perspective and the structural-functionalist perspective. From a conflict paradigm point of view, the essay would focus on gender and how the assumption that girls lack the same level of strength and stamina as men. The WNBA (Women National Basketball League) doesn’t get the same amount of respect as the males do in the NBA (National Basketball League). Another issue could be that the NBA players have a higher annual salary than an average teacher. A structural-functionalist approach could be focused on how it creates jobs (the NBA) and academically too. Basketball could also be focused on how
Also we start seeing star power, which influenced many marketing campaigns. We start seeing Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal as they grabbed most of the headlines and are locks for the Hall of Fame. And we come to the 2010’s; this brings the entertainment value and athleticism to a whole new level. There also many different Platforms like League Pass that allow consumers to become more knowledgeable, while social-media sites like Twitter have allowed us to engage in conversation and debate with other fans and players. We also have an incredible star power here, aka LeBron James.
Most players have charities like Russell Westbrook, Pau Gasol, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Shane Battier, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Stephen Curry, LeBron James. Those are just some of the great basketball players that help out with their communities and their
They have helped draw attraction to the city of the team, helped bring in new viewers, and they help increase the value of that team which could be good for the city. Eight hours after LeBron James announced that he would join the Cleveland Cavaliers, season tickets were sold out, the value of the team doubled to more than a billion dollars and they went from having 2 national televised games last year to 29 (Forbes). This is the result a professional athlete who is not even a part of the front office. The Cavaliers went from a team that nobody would even think about playing for to an attraction for many free agents just to play with LeBron James. Furthermore, Athletes do a lot for the reputation of their city also. Oklahoma City was one of the worst places to live in 2010 and was at one time recorded as the unhealthiest place to live (daily finance). However, most people are going to recognize this city because of Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Chicago is a dangerous place to live, that should not be new to anybody. But residents manage to look past that because they have Derrick Rose, the youngest MVP in NBA history and Jonathan Toews who is one of the best players in the NHL. The two things that are important to a sports franchise is money and exposure. Professional athletes can provide that, some at an extremely higher level than others. So when you
When people think of basketball, they think of elite male players such as Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Stephen Curry. Those people rarely think of talented female players such as Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Elena Delle Donne, and Brittney Griner. Since the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) first opened in 1996, the interest in professional sports for women has increased. The creation of the WNBA has opened up a world of opportunities for women who want to pursue their dream of playing professional basketball in the US. The WNBA has overcome impossible odds to become successful, and has empowered women to strive and turn their dreams into a reality.
The game of basketball presents lots of opportunity and doesn't limit players to one league. International basketball for example, is great paying although it is not the playing level of the NBA. AAU on the contrary are giving exposure for the college level and is very valuable to young ball players. Streetball also gives a stage for players hoping to play at the next level much similar to AAU. All in all basketball presents
The subject of money can be very controversial when it comes to sports in general. Whether it is the NFL, NBA, or MLB, they all exist because of large sums money. The NBA in particular produces billions of dollars of revenue each year in advertisements, ticket sales, apparel, and other forms. Through these different forms of revenue, a portion of this money goes to all 30 teams in the NBA. In the millions of dollars that each team receives, parts of it go to the owners, coaches, players, and other staff, but that is not the main source of income for players.
The farther a team makes it in the playoffs, their bigger their split of money. Players then vote amongst themselves who gets the share of their team’s winnings. For superstars with bigger contracts, the purse from the playoffs amounts to chump change. This supports my argument because it shows what and how much money they make.
I Andre Winters have always wanted to play in the NBA. I have bought all of the NBA 2k games they have, but this one has never done this to me. On January, 5th 2016 the newest game out in stores had just came out. I am determined to get it no matter what I have to do.
The level of talent and competition is a huge difference between basketball in America and basketball overseas. America’s best league, the NBA, has the best talent in the entire world and it is not even close. Just take a look at what happened this past summer in the Olympics. It is hard to even create an argument of where the better talent is, America or overseas because every time there is an international tournament the United States wins, with a few exceptions. The other countries were not even close to competing with the United States. The players that are on those countries teams participate in both NBA and European leagues but, more European than NBA. I know this date goes way back, because the NBA has more superstars and better overall
If your life is built on the phrase " ball is life," then you too are a huge NBA Summer League fan. The summer league season starts off a couple weeks after the finals. There are three leagues, Orlando ( only 10 teams and NBA officialnados, players, coaches, management etc are invited), Utah (only 4 teams and is 3 days long) and the biggest one of them all, Vegas ( 24 NBA teams are invited and basketball fans are able to watch the games in person). The summer leagues are fun because you get to see the newly drafted rookies in action, 2nd and 3rd year players working on their game, or NBA veterans trying to stay in the league but mostly overseas and NBDL players trying to make the NBA or just trying to get seen by scouts around the world. Basketball has become a global sport in the last 20 years and there are leagues everywhere. There are so many talented basketball players in world which makes it difficult to make a team. An NBA team roster is small compared to its other sports leagues counterparts so players have to be really talented or lucky to earn a spot. Its sometimes about the perfect fit for that player trying out for a certain team. And if a player plays well and gets cut from one team, then maybe another team might pick them
Much like the rest of America, the NBA has a large gap between the rich and the poor. Take the Los Angeles Lakers for example. They accumulated a massive $115 million profit after the 2016-2017 season. Keep in mind this was their fourth straight year with less than 27 wins and no star player to attract fans.
They get paid 500 thousand a year and all that they really have to do is show up to practices and sit down at games. That is ridiculous, people who don’t even play should not get paid nearly that much. Instead of these teams paying 500 thousand to a player who just practices they should put the money somewhere it will be used for a benefit. A NBA team's roster has 12 players, a NFL roster has about 53, and a MLB roster has about 40. You already know that not all of these players are all star MVP’s, so why are they getting paid so much? As I read (wikispaces.com) on average 3 of the 12 NBA players don’t play, 27 out of the 53 NFL players don’t play, and 20 out of the 40 MLB players don’t play. Imagine how much money is paid to people who only practice. That’s a lot of money that could be going towards a good cause like maybe stopping animal abuse or even giving part of that money to a shelter so the people who were less fortunate have more to
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is an ever-changing league, and teams change their style of play and strategy to win games frequently. Furthermore, the introduction of the three-point field goal after the NBA and ABA merger started a revolution in basketball strategy. A trend began where teams began to attempt more threes every year. However, most NBA team’s styles to win games did not center on shooting three pointers. During the 1980s and 1990s, team strategy revolved around centers (a position in basketball that is usually the tallest man on the team) and isolation play, and this style of play peaked by the mid 2000s. The pace of play became very slow and the game was inefficient. Over the last ten years, more teams began
The NBA is one of the United States’ favorite sports leagues, with each team averaging 100 million dollars of income each year before expenses.
