When I think about the U.S. flag the 3 main things I think about is, Family (the most important), our military (2nd important), and my home (last important). First let’s talk about home and why I think home. I think about home because it’s important to me if we lived anywhere else we wouldn’t have as good of homes. And how lucky we are to not hear gunshots, bombs going off, and screaming outside of our house. I think about the scared kids who do have houses like that and families that are getting raided. The second most important thing I think about is the military. I am thankful that they are protecting us from other bad countries. And I’m thankful that they are risking their lives and leaving their families with the chance
The leaves were changing color and falling around me in a twisting dance; a whirlwind of a fire’s colors displaced by the wind. It was beautiful. A man dressed in a suit with shiny medals walked over to me, “Would you like to hold a flag in the ceremony?” I nodded my head so much I felt dizzy afterwards. I’ve been looking forward to this, I thought, with a cheeky grin spreading over my face, bouncing up and down behind him. The man showed me a towering flag that was twice my size. As I carefully observed the cloth and colors, I realized that it wasn’t the American Flag. I pouted up at the flag, trying to use my eyes to change its form, the same way I had seen a superhero do in a cartoon I had watched. It didn’t work. I tried again, maybe if
Guns firing, soldiers yelling, we battle fiercely at Fort McHenry. Day breaks, and stars and stripes wave in the air. The American Flag stands for freedom, hope, equality, opportunity, and democracy. The flag represents the American Dream. We may not always realize it, but our flag also represents hope for a brighter and better tomorrow. Standing for the Pledge of Allegiance, my classmates and I don’t always think about what we’re saying or what we’re doing. Sometimes we just don’t recognize what the flag, the pledge, or even America means to people. The thing is, I feel so fortunate to live in a country like the United States; I just don’t know how fortunate I am sometimes. Some people, people who are not as fortunate as I am, dream of coming
The very first flag for the United States to have was the Grand Union Flag, in the years 1775-1777. The design of this flag was thirteen red and white stripes, with the red cross of St. Georgia, England along with the white cross of St. Andrew, Scotland in a blue field. The final split between the between the colonies and Great Britain brought the removal of the British Union from our flag. Shortly after came the stars on a blue field. By June 14, 1777 the Flag Resolution was passed, which is now known as Flag Day. Which basically said that the United States flag had to have thirteen stripes being red and white; that the union have 13 stars that are white with a blue field. Then, came Francis Hopkinsons design of the United States Flag.
The red white and blue I see on our flag every day reminds me of the millions of American soldiers who shared their life for this country, and by doing so have given all Americans the many benefits we
Our lives are full of stories, many of which include artifacts. I will be sharing three that have great importance to me. My first one is my grandfather's flag. U.S soldiers who served in their life receive a flag when they pass away. The flag is usually pretty large, and after their funeral it is folded 12 times, and each fold has a particular meaning. After it is folded, it is typically placed in a triangular frame and given to the fallen soldier's family. His flag is of meaning to me for the reason that it is a piece of my grandfather's life that I can see every day. I've gotten to honor it every day of my life, for the reason that it is cherished in my house, and displayed on my family's bookshelf. It also means a great deal to me since it shows me what true bravery is. My grandfather grew up in northern Alabama, and the joined the U.S Air Force. His bravery, valor, and dedication to America reminds me 24/7 just how God has a plan for us, and that he always will. To conclude, with my grandfather's flag being displayed and honored in my house, it goes to show what it means to serve.
DJ: Good morning everyone and thank you for being here today. We are gathered here to respectfully retire flags that have been deemed no longer serviceable. It is proclaimed that each of these flags have served well. These flags have inspired those who desired the taste of freedom and have represented hope to those oppressed by tyranny and terror. These flags have welcomed any and all in the name of liberty. The American flag flies free to the wind. The American flag flies above residential porches, campsites, small businesses, corporate offices, hospitals, schools, military and naval bases, government buildings and nonprofit organizations. The American flag is the most displayed and recognized banner in the world. These flags serve as a
The great American Flag is the beast Flag in the world and this is what the Flag means to me. When I see that Flag I think of how many people have fount and died for our freedom. When I look at that Flag I remember what my grandpa told me. He said “We are a very lucky country because we are free”. And I hope we are going to stay free.
The flag we all know and love today, the American flag which represents purity/innocence, hardiness and valor and it also represent the freedom of our country. My solo project was to create a flag that can can represent our island and the people in it which is us. A flag is important in many ways, such as it can tell us about the history of a country and what it has been through. The colors of a flag also represent the value of a country and the design as well. For example the United States flag the 50 stars represent the 50 states of America and the 13 stripes represent the 13 British colonies that declared independence from Great Britain that became the first state in the US. A flag design captures the story or the origin of a country. I
Hello, I’m Ireland Keegan, a student at Marlowe Middle school. Here at Marlowe we are learning about our country’s flag in history. In our classes we are debating whether if we should be able to burn our country’s flag in protest. I was wondering about your personal opinion about this topic. I personally feel that we should not be able to burn the flag in protest because it symbolises our country and all we have worked for as a nation. I also would like your opinion on the Texas vs. Johnson case. It took place in Texas year of 1984, when Gregory Johnson joined a group of protesters deciding on burning our country’s flag. Amidantly Johnson was arrested and sentenced to a year and prison, also being fined for $2,000. But this case was soon taken
Flags is very important to me, it means so much and I’ve learned a lot. I practice when I can and I’ve developed many friendships, and strengthened some through it. I really love it, the 6 foot poles, the sabres, and the rifles. For Christmas I would like to have new silks for my flag. It would be very effective and helpful. I would have them for future performances, and to replace my old one.
What does a flag represent? The answer to that question is somewhat relative. A flag carries different meanings to different people and cultures. However, in many cultures, a nation’s flag will often be treated with a certain amount of respect by the inhabitants of that nation. In the U.S. there is a code that designates how the American flag should be treated, one entry stating that no flag, in a collection of flags, shall be flown higher than the U.S. flag (U.S. Code, 2007). It should be well known that treating a country’s flag with dishonor will likely not be received well by the country’s people. But what should happen if an incident occurred wherein the disrespect was unintentional? It would seem as though, when dealing with a country’s flag, there would be a certain amount of preparation and research before the release of the product. In this paper, I will provide a look into how Puma’s attempt to create a positive brand image went awry, explore the symbolic significance of this event, and explain how a lack of in-depth research and interaction with the audience played contributing roles in this “snafu,” outlining possible solutions and suggestions for the company in the process.
What the flag really means to me. The flag means royalty, respect, honor, and freedom to me. I think of the word soldiers every time I look at the flag, because I think of my brother who is serving our country right now because he is in the Army. The flag also means pride to me, because every time it’s 4th Of July I celebrate and light off fireworks to honor our country. Also every time I stare at the flag for the pledge Of Allegiance I think of the wars that we had because all of those soldiers who were fighting for us and lost their lives, they were trying to protect our country from being attack from other people.
June 14 is Flag Day, but with so many American flags proudly displayed, every day seems like Flag Day. Perfect for reading together with a young child, F Is for Flag shows in simple terms how one flag can mean many things: a symbol of unity, a sign of welcome, and a reminder that-in good times and in bad-everyone in our country is part of one great big family. This book shows how Americans around the United States celebrate the American flag and the symbolism we show. The pictures look like a child is drawing the pictures and they are on an adventure with the flag. communicating the importance of our nation's flag. It was not the most interesting or exciting book ever, but it was educationally valuable. You could use it in the classroom to
Now that we have a better understanding of the definition, we can see how flag burning is protected by the First Amendment. I believe flag burning should be protected by the First Amendment because it does not cause any physical or psychological harm to another human. To better understand why I believe flag burning should be protected, we have to go back to when it first became a major topic of discussion in America.
Everyday, just like millions of other children, I would start school by rising and placing my right hand over my heart, as I stared at the American flag. I would simply go through the motions, giving no thought to what the flag meant to me. To some, it is a daily reminder of the fear and oppression that occurs in this country. While to others, it is an expression of their freedom. However, to me, it is a embodiment of the mindset all citizens of America, past and present, and their struggle to achieve the true freedom of the American dream.
