Every person has a dream country. Someone’s dream country is a country which has a biggest army. For someone else a dream country is a country in which they have freedom. Another example, someone like to live in a country in which education will be free. For me a dream country is a country in which there is a big connection between people and leaders. America is a great country that many people dream to come here and live here. I am happy to have an opportunity to come here and live here for rest of my life. I think there is a good connection between American leaders and people, but there is one big question in my mind. Why does American government allocate biggest part of its budget to the military instead of some other parts? After nine …show more content…
budget, I was shocked by difference between the defense budget and some other areas. For example there are some statistics about the U.S. budget that I found. According to Tax and Militarism by Marty Hart-Landsberg on the Lewis and Clark College website, just 55.2 percent of budget that means it is equal by six hundred forty billion dollars is given to military in 2015. It happened when social security got 4.8 percent, almost fifty seven billion dollars. Also, Hart-Landsberg mentions housing and community got just 5.3 percent that is equal by about sixty one billion dollars. As Hart-Landsberg brings a pie chart from National Priorities website to his page on Lewis and Clark College website, I saw some important areas, like education, Medicate and health, and food and agriculture, which get a much smaller part of the budget. For example, as the chart shows, education got just seventy five and half billion dollars, 6.2 percent of the budget. Moreover, it is shown in chart that 4.9 percent of budget is allocated to Medicare and Health, that is, almost fifty seven billion dollars. Food and agriculture’s portion of budget is just 1.1 percent, that is, equal to around thirteen billion …show more content…
I searched about which country has the best education system in the world. There are different results for ten top countries where have the best education system. In some of their ranking there is America name and in some of them is not, but in some of them there is one name, Finland. For example, according to Which Country Comes Top for Skills and Education by Tim Leopold and Tamara Leonardi on AGENDA website, Finland is the best country in world with the all elements that the best education system needs to have. When I read this page, I wanted to study more about Finnish education system. There is some interesting information that show Finland government spends more money on education instead of its military. For example, according to Finland Ministry of Defense website that this country spends 2658.8 million Euros which is just 1.29 percent of the Finland GDP. On the other hand, according to Center on International Education Benchmarking website Finish government spent 6.1 percent of Finland GDP in 2011 that is over three times of defense budget. Thus, these information clarify the reason of having the best rank of the education in the world by Finland. They understood the only way to improve their country is improve their knowledge. However, these amounts are not my reason to compare America with Finland, but my goal is to say a country can be successful by pay on education than
In the world, countries are competing to have the best education system. Some countries such as America spend thousands of dollars per student during the school year yet have average test score. America should focus in a different system to help students raise their test scores and education. America should look at Finland education system. Finland grants equality education to all, have a better education structure system, and Finland comes to the top in test scores. While some people might say Finland does not have a large population, which helps the country with less education cost.
Since the attacks a number of civil defense programs have been initiated, which leads to more departments asking for an allowance within the national budget. This ultimately is leading to a larger and larger deficit that is quickly encompassing full percentage points of our GDP. There is a debate on how much defense
In the 1970’s Finland was not at the top of the education chain, in fact their education system was doing poorly (NEA). Finland has been changing their education system over the past 35 years to make their education system better. They have changed their education system to become very successful. When looking at the differences between the United States education system and Finland education system has obvious differences between the testing, the paths for the students to take, time management during school hours, and the environment of the classroom.
Many people know that the U.S. does not rank very high in education. You hear about how they are always trying to improve education, but they still fall short of where they strive to be. In Anu Partanen’s “Finland’s School Success, What Americans Keep Ignoring” she addresses this issue. She points out what Americans are doing wrong, what Finland is doing right, and how the U.S. can improve the education system in many ways.
“The federal budget is the yearly plan for how the US government will spend the money it takes from taxes and borrowing.” After thoroughly analyzing the federal budget from 2012, it is unquestionably evident that a majority of the money is being put into a few major categories, leaving room for the rest of the smaller categories to be financially neglected. Is this fair? It seems that the money could be more fairly distributed, and that there is room for cuts in some of the larger categories, to improve the littler ones. In each of the three budget clusters, the US Government should make adjustments in the way it is distributing money; changes involving the big five, the middle
4, Partanen).” Education is Finland is used as a way to even out social inequality. As Sahlberg addresses, “This means that schools should be healthy, safe environments for children (p. 4).” Because of this, school meals are free for students, and health care is easily accessible, as well as psychological counseling and student guidance. In the end, Finland has proven that it is indeed possible to achieve
“The United States spent $598.5 billion dollars alone on the military in 2015. That is 54% of all spending in 2015. The US only spent $70 billion (6%) on education and $13.1 billion (1%) on food and agriculture.” (“Military Spending”). This shows what Americans really value.
“To budget is to fight over money and the things money buys” (Document A). The federal budget is adjusted every year and has to follow certain criteria set forward by the Preamble to the Constitution. The Preamble sets five goals that the budget must fulfill, these goals are: to establish justice, to insure domestic tranquility, to provide for the common defence, to promote the general welfare, and to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our prosperity. Furthermore, it is difficult to decide what clusters of the federal budget to allocate money to in order to meet the five goals of the Preamble which are “The Big Five”, “The Middle Five”, and “The Little Guys.” In each of the three budget clusters,
A couple of large concerns always arise when discussing politics: the state of the Union, what the president is currently doing, and a few other topics. No topic, however, is as talked about in major concern than the federal budget. As tax payers, the American people always wishes to know where their tax dollars are going. The problem is that very few people actually know who sets the federal budget, and how much power this branch of government really has.
Should the Federal Budget be spent evenly or are some categories more important than others? There were goals for the United States when it was created, it is called the Preamble. The United States wants to fulfill these goals, however they have a budget. The government hasn’t been spreading the money evenly between the categories. (BGE) The category of the Big Five has way too much of the budget. If we spent more money on other categories, will the government be able to fulfill the goals of the Preamble? Within each of the three budget clusters -the Big Five, the Middle Five, and the Little Guys - several changes should be made because the amount of money the government is spending on one cluster isn’t benefitting our country.
Federal spending is a controversial topic due especially to the growing budget deficit. Millions of American citizens pay taxes each year helping to fund the Federal Budget. Although American citizens’ tax dollars are spent by the Federal Budget, how the resources are divided and spent are not always a proper reflection of how society wants the resources to be allocated. In 2013, Washington spent nearly $3.5 trillion, while only collecting $2.8 in revenue, adding billions to the budget deficit. Where do these tax dollars go? Approximately, 23% was spent on health care such as Medicare, 22% on Social Security, 19% on national defense, 19% on
While this appears to be a good datapoint in that it is a direct correlation to “butter” related activities. Training is relative to education and compensation is relative to pay and benefits. A number of questions which arise: If 80% of the military budget is relative to “butter” related activities, and 20% is being spent for direct defense related efforts, then why are these costs included in the defense budget? Would shifting the costs for military training be better suited at the Department of Labor (current budget of $11.8 billion)? Would shifting the costs for compensation related healthcare be better situated at the Department of Health and Human Services (current budget s $77.1 billion) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (current budget s $65.3 billion)?
Ever since WW2, the US government has spent a significant portion of its GDP on military funding. Many citizens think that the government should spend less on military but, a few think they should spend more. While it seems like a simple question, answer is a lot more complicated than it initially looks. The United States is the supreme world power, at a cost though. That cost is nearly 600 billion dollars. (National Priorities). However, other nations, mainly China and Russia, have increased their military power which makes some people nervous about what the US government is doing about it. For the most part, the US government has kept its military budget the same for the past decade. While
Naturally, such incredible technology comes at a great price. Disregarding the cost of research and construction, the technological complexity and sheer size of the program alone made it insanely expensive. In fact, the original budget was not enough to get it off the ground, “For 1985, the practical fiscal limitations on the defense budget, coupled with the need to firmly establish a sound management structure and more precisely define the programmatic directions of the SDI, led the President to decide to approve a $250 million increment to previously budgeted DOD strategic defense activities” (“National Security Decision Directive 119, Strategic Defense Initiative”). Accounting for this yearly budget along with daily maintenance placed a
Education is important in many cultures because it gives an opportunity to gain the skill which is needed to navigate in the world. It plays a crucial factor in all countries. Also, it is important in the country like Kazakhstan which is developing. The education system of Kazakhstan has changed a lot from the USSR’s collapsing. It was improved and modified. However, the result of PISA ranked the knowledge of the 15 years old students to 49th in 2012 (PISA 2012 Results in Focus, 2014). The ranking shows the education system of school needs an amelioration. Therefore, the Kazakhstani government requested technical assistance to improve the nation’s educational system in 2011(PISA 2012 Results in Focus, 2014). In response, the World Bank Group launched the Joint Economic Research Program, or JERP, in order to enhance the quality of education. After researches there were provided additional technical equipment to schools but the method or approach of teaching was not changed. There is mistake that the way of teaching and requirements to teachers weren’t considered that could have improved the system. The method of teaching of successful countries should have considered and applied for Kazakhstani schools’ education. Therefore, this research was conducted in order to regard the gap. As an example country for application its experience Finland was chosen because Finland’s way has significant implication for reformer, especially those who is facing the same problems. Finland
