Week 2 of the college football season has come and gone, and what a week it was. Several teams needed comeback efforts to achieve victory against less formidable foes, while other programs pulled off compelling wins against stiff competition. Below is a recap of the most significant storylines from week 2 of the 2015 college football season. Most Significant Victories - Michigan teams come up big! The Harbaugh era is officially underway. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh captured his first victory as Wolverines head coach with a 35-7 victory over Oregon State Saturday afternoon. Had Harbaugh dropped his initiation in Ann Arbor, Maize and Blue fans may have been seen shopping for Scarlet and Grey. Ok, that’s probably a stretch, but Harbaugh’s first victory as Michigan’s head coach showed Wolverine fans what they can expect as long as he’s at the helm — Winning. It could take a season or two for Harbaugh to bring Michigan back to prominence, but the fiery khaki savant has a proven track record of turning teams around. …show more content…
5 Michigan State exacted its revenge on No. 7 Oregon after falling to the Ducks a season ago. Saturday, the Spartans held on for a 31-28 victory over the Ducks, keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive. The Ducks certainly aren’t out of their playoff picture, but a looming matchup between Michigan State and No. 1 Ohio State is now the most anticipated matchup of the college football season. The victory also painted a thin coat of credibility onto the Big 10, which doesn’t appear to be the strongest of conferences this
College football has dramatically changed how viewers watch the sport. It all started with transforming rugby into american football, which made a huge impact on today’s society. With the rules having a huge change from 1880 to the 2016 (Watterson John Sayle). Football has increased the amount of views because how popular it has become to the audience since the 1890s (Gridiron Football). Football has changed dramatically since the beginning of the game.
After one of the worse season's in recent memory, the Michigan Wolverines needed a big change. That big change turned out to be the hiring of Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, former NFL coach of the San Francisco 49ers and former All-American QB at Michigan. For years, fans and boosters have been screaming for a coach who personifies Wolverines football. Now they have their man. His first task will be trying to revive an offense that went to sleep in 2014, scoring a meager 20.9 PPG on a total of 333 YPG.
With Michigan having home field advantage, a revenge motive and superior talent, Colorado is going to be hard pressed to stay close enough in this game to get the chance to heave another Hail Mary. Taking everything into consideration, the final score figures to somewhere around
Ohio State (Falling)- Ohio State has lost a couple straight games and have looked sloppy. Their star player Keita Bates Diop has been shutdown and they’ve struggled to slow down opposing teams. Chris Holtmann is a very good coach and should be able to get the bucks to bounce back, but these losses have probably dropped the Buckeyes to a 5 seed.
The Buckeyes struggled early last season, including a shocking loss to Virginia Tech before Urban Meyer’s assemblage of talent made its magical run that ended with a championship in the inaugural College Football Playoff. After a solid outing against Virginia Tech in their season opener this season, the Buckeyes have looked out of whack against two non-Power 5 conference foes (Hawaii and Northern Illinois). Despite playing outside the big boy conferences, both Hawaii and Northern Illinois are capable opponents. But, Ohio State is supposed to dominate the competition on its alleged inferior schedule — a forecast that hasn’t come to fruition. Three weeks into the season, Meyer still doesn’t know who his starting quarterback is and his loaded offense has looked less than impressive. The Buckeyes will attempt to get their offense on track against Western Michigan on
NCAA college football enthusiasts are already placing Notre Dame out of the running at a spot in the College Football Playoff, after their 41-8 loss on a Saturday night. The Fighting Irish immediately dropped from the No.3 top NCAA college team to No. 8. Surprisingly, the Miami Hurricanes (8-0, 6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) quickly ran through their opponents to face-off the Notre Dame leaders (8-1) within the Hard Rock Stadium in front of the mighty 65,000 fans.
The Oregon recruiting class leaped 18 spots in the national rankings, checking in at #12. This class was highlighted by wide receiver Josh Huff. During his career in Eugene, Huff reeled in 24 touchdown passes and 2,366 yards. During this season, Kelly lead the Ducks to the #1 ranked team in the country. After finishing the season #2, Oregon had the opportunity of winning a national championship in Kelly's second season. Behind Doak Walker Award winner, LaMichael James, the Ducks squared off verses Cam Newton and the Auburn Tigers. Oregon ended up losing to the Tigers, 22-19. However, the 2010 Ducks were the best offensive team in the country, averaging an astounding 49.3 points per game and a jaw-dropping 537.5 yards per game. If Kelly could provide numbers even remotely close to this, Gators fans are in for a hell of a time. Kelly was also
The Gators falling to Michigan and then not having the ability to play week two switched my perspective on this game. As Jim McEwlain said, "Defending SEC East champs. It goes through here and it goes through Gainesville." With the SEC East race completely up for grabs, whichever team walks off the field Saturday with a win is in a very good position.

For those unaware, professional sports remains as volatile as a high-risk investment. This remains attributed to the uncertainty pertaining to professional players. This lopsided matchup earned “Big Ten Game of the Day” honors solely because of the showcase status that it brings.
Northwestern is coming off of a seven-game winning streak, which includes three straight overtime wins from earlier in the season. The Northwestern Wildcats are looking to keep their winning streak alive in order to achieve a 10-win season. Northwestern is also favored to win the Music City Bowl.
Michigan is among Joe Lunardi’s First Four out, and will likely need two wins in the Big Ten tournament to feel better about their tournament chances. After starting conference play 7-2 Michigan has gone 3-5 and 1-4 against ranked teams. They do not have a loss to any team ranked below them in the conference, but only have two wins against teams ranked above them. The Michigan Wolverines are the pinnacle of the adage “beat who you are supposed to beat” but they will likely need to beat some better teams in the conference tournament if they want to go dancing in March.
Arizona State is coming of a 51-41 victory against Cal last week. The Sun Devils had to play from behind once again and rely on their defense to make a few key stops and force a few late 4th quarter turnovers to walk out move to 4-0 on the season. Arizona State is led by quarterback Manny Wilkins, who is already passing for over 1,000 yards and can make plays with both his feet and his arm.
Ohio State hosts Michigan on Saturday in what could be a play-in game for a spot among the top four playoff teams. In the muddled mess that is the Big Ten East Division, an Ohio State win coupled with a Penn State win over Michigan State would send the Nittany Lions to the Big Ten Championship game.
Whenever Army meets Navy in college football, the consumers of the sport take notice. It might not do huge ratings or alter the trajectory for either program, but for one day the rivalry demands the entire sport's respect, attention, and coverage.
