Between 1960 and 1980, Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf perfected two computer protocols, and created a model that would allow multiple computers to communicate on one network (Evan Andrews, 2013). This model, now known as the internet, has become the most popular medium for data-sharing, and communication. According to the U.S. Census in 2013, internet use at home tripled from 18 percent to 54.7 percent between 1997 and 2003 (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). This large increase in use quickly created worldwide markets, breached the distance-communication barrier, and increased efficiencies in people’s daily lives. Whether you’re a businessman securely storing information to The Cloud, or an immigrant wanting to see relatives face-to-face in another country; the internet gives the common man the ability to succeed in ways that were not possible before.
Ever since the blade or combustion engine, we have seen the positive and negative consequences of technology. The internet has been one of the fastest evolving technologies of humankind, and made its way into almost every progressive culture around the world. As a rapidly growing and popular technology, I believe it is important to look at the far reaches of the internet, to understand the potential consequences towards users.
As the internet becomes increasingly accessible and efficient, companies and individuals are taking advantage of digital marketing, online stores, quick access of information, and social networking.
Throughout the years the impact of the internet on society has evolved in many different ways. Since the creation of the internet its purpose in society has also evolved in various ways. The Internet has managed to provide the masses with an informational platform that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It delivers whatever we may need, desire or want to know about with just a few simple clicks or keystrokes. A technological medium that has become quite instrumental in our daily lives.

The Internet has proven itself to be helpful, but it can also be a scary place. When the Internet first emerged, it was difficult to gauge its full potential. The Internet was actually created as a “military communications network in the 1960s” (Campbell et al., 2016, p. 41). However, the Internet became a more integral part of society around the 21st century when it transformed into a hub of information and entertainment. The film, The Net, features the early years of the Internet and the dangers that came with it. This film took a radical stance about how the Internet can damage a person’s life. The film remains relevant today since it inspires paranoia regarding the fragile safety
The author compares the difference from the past and the present and how the internet has changed not only himself, but others and the way that they are able to understand and focus due to the long-term use of the web. While comparing the past and the present the author gathers information from well know writers that feel the same way about the effects of the web. The author's choice of personal experiences, vivid imagery and analysis backed by research hook the reader and persuades them to believe that today's technology is causing mainly problems.

The importance of the internet has been greatly debated, argued and explained since the day it was introduced to the world. The Internet offers a huge wealth of information, both good and bad. The Internet began as a small university network in the United States and since then has blossomed into one of the biggest if not the biggest telecommunications network covering the entire world. It can be considered as one of the most valuable types of technology. During the past several years we have come to become more and more dependent on the Internet and in particular moving huge chunks of data across large distances. The Internet allows people to communicate with each other across the world within mere fractions of seconds with the help of E-mail. The Internet also allows for expressing opinions and obtaining up-to-date information
Internet is a global network that connects millions of computers together and allows people to communicate and share information with each other in an effective and easy way. It has become the most widely used means of communications of recent times. “The number of U.S. homes with one or more personal computers increased by 16% (in 1995) to about 38 million households, up from 33 million in 1994 and 25 million in 1993” (Fox 9). “Along with that staggering stat, the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science has reported that 95% of the public has access to the Internet” (“Free Essay”). Internet is filled with a lot of information on almost every topic in the world and anyone
Additionally, the Internet is gradually evolving into a platform on which each person will be permanently bound to his or her communications and can be subject to offline consequences for their online choices.
Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate, mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed – today. From its humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely sweep non-discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known as “Cyberspace,” the “Net” or the “Web”, matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and influence all aspects of human conditions.
The internet is an ever-evolving platform that more and more people use everyday. Being so adaptable and ambiguous, people take advantage of the internet for productivity, information, and entertainment. While others take a darker turn, and take advantage of people and exploit their lack of knowledge, or commit crimes by taking advantage of the ambiguous nature of the internet. The internet though it may be misused is a key factor in the daily lives for billions of people around the world, and should remain uncensored, for the entirety of its lifespan.
