The Invention/history of Coca-Cola Coca-Cola became an invention in 1886 by the hands of a pharmacist named John Pemberton, also known as "doc." He had participated in Civil war, and toward the end of it, he decided that he needed to come up with an idea that would bring him commercial success. Pemberton decided to try his luck in the beverage market after moving to Atlanta, and so came up with the Coca Cola formula in a three-legged brass kettle in his backyard. The name ‘coca cola’ was a suggestion given by his bookkeeper Frank Robinson. this was when Coca-Cola was born. However, Pemberton had no idea how to advertise. This is where Frank Robinson came in. He registered Coca-Cola's formula with the patent office, and he designed the logo. preceding to Frank’s death in 1888, portions of his company were sold to diverse groups with majority of the business being sold to Asa G. Candler, who was a businessman in Atlanta Candler was able to get hold of the formula rights as well as the “Coca-Cola” name and brand by 1889. In 1892, He combined the Coca-Cola Company. Next, Candler’s plan to promote the drink was by giving away free coca cola, with vouchers and outfitting pharmacies and soda fountains with items bearing Coca-Cola branding. due to Candler's aggressive marketing of the product, Coca Cola was one of America's most popular fountain drinks, By the late 1890s.
