Holly Krett English III 3B Mr. Saenz 12 January 2014 The 2nd Amendment Over the past few years, the issue of gun control has been widely discussed. You surely have heard the phrase, “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people” uttered and i wholeheartedly support this statement. It is important to treat guns responsibly so they do not end up in the wrong hands. I believe gun control violates our inalienable rights. Another piece of our liberty will surely be taken away if guns are banned, and socialism and totalitarianism will be right around the corner. An added protection against tyranny by the government is a possession of guns by the general public. There are many reasons that come to mind when i think about why the 2nd …show more content…
When the supreme court was asked to decide upon registration of a communist newspaper readers, it was ruled that forced registration of a thing lawfully that was to be kept in be home is blasphemy. (A Look at the Second Amendment, Web) It is said that we need gun control; I have a few examples that may alter your opinion, “ The Soviet Union established gun control in 1929; from 1929 to 1953, 20 million objectors that were unable to defend themselves were exterminated. Turkey established gun control in 1911; from 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians who were unable to defend themselves were exterminated. In 1938, Germany established gun control; from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews and other dissidents were rounded up and exterminated. In 1935 China established gun control; from 1948 to 1952, 20 million objectors were rounded up and then exterminated. In 1964, Guatemala established gun control; from 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated. Uganda established gun control in 1970, from 1971 to 1979, 300,00 Christians were exterminated. In 1956, Cambodia established gun control; from 1975 to 1977, one million ‘educated’ people were rounded up and exterminated. I don’t know about you but I am certainly starting to see a horrific trend. There were 56 million people rounded up and killed because of gun control in
The first amendment of the United States states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights Institute).” In simpler words this amendments means that any citizen may practice any religion that he or she identifies as their faith. It also grants all citizens the right to free speech. Free speech means that an individual can say whatever they wish, without any restrictions, even if the words are inappropriate, disrespect any political leader or disrespect the government itself. We have a right to say what we desire. The first amendment along with granting the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, allows freedom of press. This allows the press the ability to publish what they desire, even if it is absurd or incorrect. The second amendment of the United States Constitution states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Bill of Rights Institute).” The second amendment grants
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
Gun control has been a big topic for the past decade in the united states. These debates will rise and fall time in and time out after something horrific happens in the state. Anti-Gun supporters do not realize that it is extremely difficult to regulate something in the states that is a big portion of our economy.Would stricter gun laws change anything? So far statistically It has been proven otherwise one must consider how a citizen would defend themselves when they are faced with terror. How will they defend themselves if there are restrictions on guns? It seems that some states that have stricter gun laws are where the most shootings and also where more terrorists attack take place. It seems that gun control is only pushed when shootings gradually get worse and worse. But why are these anti gun groups not speaking up when police brutality happens or when a racial hate crime occurs? Anti-Gun groups do not look at the bigger picture and try to understand that it is more than guns. Gun control almost plays Zero role in murders
Over the past year, the topic of gun control has received more and more attention. In America, gun control is a very serious issue. The reason why people feel that gun ownership is such a big problem is because there have been more tragic shootings in recent years. Moreover, many people lose their lives by them each year. Conservatives will say that guns are used for protection, and more guns will equal less crime. In the other hand, others will say guns should not be owned by anyone. It should only use by the police or law enforcement because more guns will equal more violence. I believe America does not want any more mass shootings, so it should be a gun control. Even though some people believe it is a right to carry firearms but it should be outlawed because it is too easy for criminals to get handguns and too many innocent people are dying from accidental shootings.
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capita number across the globe. The current public gun control debate in the United States seems to be placed on standby until it is sparked up by a major mass shooting. There were at least 126 mass shootings between January 2000 and July 2014.(pro). Opponents of more gun laws accuse supporters of using a horrific event to further a lost cause, saying that more laws would not have prevented the shootings. Advocates of more gun control often want more laws to try to prevent the mass shootings and call for smart gun laws and background checks . Pew Research Center did
The second amendment: the right to bear arms, is arguably the most recognized out of all of the amendments. Yet the question to ask now is how relevant is the second amendment; and with their being a major difference between the current age, and the age of when it was written, should this amendment still exist or be should it be changed. In recent times, the issue of gun control has become an increasingly heated topic. Whenever a national tragedy occurs that involves gun violence, the question on what to do about America’s gun control takes center stage. Guns are a threat to the general welfare, which the government exists to
Currently gun control has been amidst one of the most thought of debates not only in recent times, but also in prior occasions. The mass shootings occurring more-often lately have fueled the altercation pertaining to one subject, gun control. Gun control may have many different meanings, or descriptions varying from person to person. One may think that gun control is banning guns all together, banning a certain category of weapons, or banning certain items like high capacity magazines, and flash suppressors. All of these would be forms of gun control, but the true meaning of gun control, as stated by an online article What Gun Control Could Look Like, “Gun control would allow citizens in the United States to still purchase firearms, but there would be reasonable regulations on firearms” (Greenblat). This statement introduces the idea that gun control would not be banning guns, but banning items that are unnecessary for civilians to have possession of. Banning all guns cannot happen because it would be infringing upon the second amendment, the right to bear arms. The second amendment cannot be changed or challenged, but perimeters may be set to keep guns and people’s capabilities with them limited. A firearm in the hands of a criminal or someone with bad intentions is not good, but it can be prevented. Gun control needs to happen, or mass shootings and high rates of violence will continue to occur in society.
In a nation where 30,000 lives are lost each year to gun violence,i we face a problem unlike another other industrialized nation.ii There are many reasons why the gun problem in America is unique. America’s culture is heavily centered on guns both in media and in everyday life, especially in rural communities. We have relatively lax laws regulating firearms due to the vocal opposition of the gun industry, gun enthusiasts, and members of Congress supported by the gun lobby. The majority of Americans support gun reform laws, but political opposition, funded by the gun lobby results in little to no change in our laws.iii The amount of gun violence in our country is a complicated problem, but I believe it can be reduced by changing our
“From the 1999 school shooting at Columbine that left 13 dead, to the recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 26 dead, many people have been shocked by these horrific events and have searched for ways to end them. The answer is simple: more regulations regarding gun control” (Clypian). The stakes are rising in the policy debate on gun control due to the many mass shootings which have occurred throughout the country. While some people believe that more laws regarding gun control will not help because criminals ignore laws, this is incorrect. Gun control is not directed toward innocent gun holders but is intended to take action against the idea of gun violence. Steps should be taken to reduce access to weapons by the
Gun control has become a hot topic currently. Shootings have become the new normal with today’s society, with shootings occurring on a monthly basis. It seems that guns have become a major problem, or possibly something else? Political leaders always prefer to blame the gun first and call for new laws and restrictions on firearms. There could be multiple ways to prevent such crime, but will restricting firearm ownership or banning certain types of guns stop or reduce mass shootings or crimes in general? Owning a firearm, a guaranteed freedom of every law-abiding citizen and taking away or restricting the rights of a citizen makes the United States a less free nation. Making guns more accessible and given the proper training will allow citizens to more effectively protect themselves, defend their families and deter criminals.
With the recent shootings at schools. Military bases or offices. People start to wonder whether gun control is needed in this time period. Passing of strict laws is creating a tension between people who believe Americans have the right to bear arms against those who think guns kill people and need to be controlled. Who should Americans believe?
The truth is, violent crimes in America are often very high, but in reality property crimes happen more. In the nine year olds case, the gun wasn’t properly put away, causing the tragic incident. Personally, I think if an individual has taken appropriate courses for owning a gun, have had a background check, and seem stable then it is fine for them to own a gun. Guns should be used for protection, hunting for food during the appropriate season, and used at a gun range where safe objects are the target. I have many friends who responsibly own guns and only use them when appropriate. However, if someone has purposefully committed a gun crime before, they shouldn’t be allowed a gun. This may seem unfair to some people but its only for America’s safety. Also, a person should be at least 21 to own a gun. If a person shooting a gun at a gun range is underage, they need to be accompanied by an adult with a license to carry.
In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, to hunt for food and to engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control takes on a proportion of extreme magnitude. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution.
Coming from where I was raised my whole life, as an young African American my two eyes have witnessed many altercations involving a gun. In this country we have homeless people that’s struggling in poverty. They can 't find work, increasing inflation rates, an unstable budget, and more importantly, a problem with guns.
Gun control is a fundamental need to the welfare of our country. Many individuals out there are supporting the "Gun control cause" with the reason of "self-preservation". I trust that not every person will deal with a firearm for self-preservation. The ownership of a firearm is an indication of power. One of the greater aspirations that one has is to have control and the less demanding it is to acquire a weapon; the speedier a criminal will pick up control over an individual. When one is in control of a firearm, that individual has complete control of their activities and may follow up on the weapon however the individual may please regardless of the possibility that they realize that their activity will hurt resistance less individuals. Weapon control is important so as to have a serene city, nation and world. Without gun control, many lives will be taken for pointless reasons. Not exclusively should things be settled in an unexpected way; however brutality and violence is never the appropriate response. The individuals who don't encourage firearm control demonstrate they are for savagery and are not thinking regarding safeness for all.
