The Korean War Between North And South Korea

Satisfactory Essays

To start, the Korean War was a war between North and South Korea, in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, which was also assisted by the Soviet Union. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War II and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards. Korea was ruled by Japan from 1910 until the closing days of World War II. In August 1945, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and—by agreement with the United States—occupied Korea north of the 38th parallel. U.S. forces subsequently occupied the south and Japan surrendered. By the late 1940s, two separate governments had been set up. A communist regime in the northern part of Korea, and a capitalistic government in the South. While this conflict is deemed as the “Forgotten War,” this essay will discuss the main issues that led the USA to take part in this war after the North attempted an invasion on the South.
To begin, following the allied victory in World War II, two global superpowers were left with completely rivaling government regimes. The Soviets were communist and the U.S capitalist. This era immediately following the Second World War was known as the Red Scare. “Red” represents communism and the allegiance to the red Soviet flag. The Red Scare was called as such simply because of the USSR’s major military force and the fact that they were striving to

spread their communist ideals
