“An Anti-Semitic Demonstration” was the more effective poem by using metaphors to explain the fear one feels during the arrival and anticipation of being sent off to a concentration camp by Nazis. During this time period life as a Jew must have been unbelievably frightening, for one was unsure of when they would be collected and where the would be taken away too. All just because of their religious beliefs or the fact they may be considered “undesirable”. Whereas in “The Family Album” they explained more about how the Jews were before their life changed forever. Neufeld does not go to explain the way they felt during the tough times of the Nazi ruling. However, he instead talks about how life was instantly changed when no one saw it coming.
In this context, I believe that the fruit being cut down symbolizes that Ha is leaving South Vietnam too soon, before she is ready, just as the papaya is cut down before it is ready. I believe this because in the poem “Wet and Crying,” Ha says, “My biggest papaya is light yellow, still flecked with green.” This shows that the papaya is not quite ripe and ready to be picked, just like Ha is not yet ready to leave her home country. Furthermore, in the same poem, Ha says “Brother Vu chops; the head falls; a silver blade slices.” I believe that, judging from the word choice that the author uses, Ha thinks of this as an execution of sorts. I believe this because of the words the author uses such as “Chop” and “The head falls.” This shows that Ha
Richard Blanco is a Cuban- American poet who was given the oppurunity to write an inaugaration poem for Barack Obama's second swearing-in. On their search, they meet people who live in terrible circumstances. There are people in a Ghanaian Leper Colony who have been abandoned by their family and friends because of a terrible illness they have, but have managed to stay positive despite their situation. Furthermore, there are homeless people living in New York city who live in difficult circumstances every day, often not knowing who they are sleeping next to at night, these experiences have taught them to not take things for granted. Jeffrey and Clifford also met some children living in a hospital for orphans who go through lots of pain every day but often manage to have smiles on their faces. People can learn, as have Clifford and Jeffrey, from these people's
He remembered his shock at his parents’ passing. The words seemed unreal- yet here he was, with no money, no family, and no means to support himself or the farm where he’d grown up. Prematurely forced into manhood, he decided to sell his farm and looked for small work around the village as a servant, so that he would have a roof over his head and some food to sustain himself. However, most in the village were too poor to afford such luxuries, and those who had the money did not think much of paying a mere boy for work. He realized the money he had made from selling the farm was dwindling, and he moved out to the city in a desperate attempt to find more opportunities for
Her life wasn’t perfect, she had many obstacles to overcome. Being a mother you try to teach your kids how to survive life. No one is going to be there to always be by your side guiding you, sometimes you have to just put your mind to if and preserve through life. “Life ain't been no crystal stair” the mother told her son.

However, when their mother came through the door and told them of a hungry family, the 4 women did not hesitate in giving away their luscious breakfast to those in need. The children delivered the food to the family and “a poor, bare, miserable room it was, with broken windows, no fire, ragged bedclothes, a sick mother, wailing baby, and a group of pale, hungry children cuddled under one old quilt, trying to keep warm”(24). The sisters realize what a harsh environment they live in, and because the setting is so pessimistic, they try to share the little wealth they have so that everyone may live long full lives. The setting in which they live, houses many people who have even less wealth than their own family. However, because of this dreadful place, they try and make sure that their community, or their family, is taken care of, even at the expense of their luxuries.
When the mother is talking to her son she tells him that life isn’t easy and she is still going on. For example, in line 18 the mother says “For I’se still goin’, honey,” (Hughes). This shows that the mother is trying to say that I am still going and I have survived this long then you can to. Furthermore, this relates to the theme because of how the mother says life is not so easy and you must continue. Additionally, another example is “Cause you finds it’s kinder hard” because
Over a lifetime we encounter a handful of struggles. They come when we are babies and struggling to take our first step to when we are old and struggling to pick up an object on the floor. With these struggles we always find a way to persevere. In "Crossing the Swamp" by Mary Oliver, the speaker shows perseverance through the bad times through the use of imagery, word choice, and structure from the beginning to the end of the poem.
While reading and examining poems and plays it is imperative that one must understand the concepts behind how to correctly, efficiently, and strategically analyze and evaluate them. In order to accurately analyse and evaluate poems, plays, and songs readers must examine its words and phrasing from the perspectives of rhythm, sound, images, obvious meaning, and implied statements. Readers then must organize responses to the verse into a logical, point-by-point explanation. A fine commencement when analyzing and or evaluating poems and plays includes starting with some background information on the story in order to give it some context, followed by the major theme or focus in the composition along with an explanation. Primarily, a piece of
The Young Elites by Marie Lu contains the five main elements of a plot line. To start off, the song “What a Catch, Donnie” by Fall Out Boy is an excellent way to summarize the exposition. The lyrics explain “I got troubled thoughts/ and the self esteem to match”, which corresponds with Adelina’s life. Adelina is full of dark thoughts, and her dad is constantly mean to her, trying to provoke her. She is a Malfetto, a survivor of the plague. All Malfetto have a mark. Adelina has a terrible scar down her face, reminding her she is different. The lines “You’ll never catch us/ So just let me be” show Adelina just wants her father to leave her alone. She thinks if he would stop being mean to her, then her dark thoughts would also stop.
A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader’s mind. Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non-diegetic sound because it is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are contained within the lyrics or tone of the music to explain more about
