I wanted to find an article that specifically mentioned the components of attachment parenting that Sears endorses─ extended breastfeeding whenever the baby wants it, co-sleeping, carrying child at all times or having them close to you, and avoidance of a strict schedule for the child to follow. I had a difficult time finding a scientific research article that mentioned the components of attachment parenting, while still remaining in my realm of understanding. Eventually I was successful and found an article titled, “Feminism and Attachment Parenting: Attitudes, Stereotypes, and Misperceptions” by Miriam Liss and Mindy J. Erchull. The central focus of the paper was determining the differences in perceptions and endorsements of attachment parenting between mothers and non-mothers, as well as feminists and non-feminists. …show more content…

I felt that the TIME magazine article focused more on the impact of the style on the child, while the article by Liss and Erchull focused more on how the mother felt and the impact on her. Another slight difference in the articles is that the article by Pickert avoided outright mentioning feminism by name, whereas Liss and Erchull had it as a main focus. The definition of attachment parenting was consistent between both articles. Liss and Erchull defined it as, “a child-centric parenting technique in which children’s needs are ideally met on the child’s schedule rather than that of the parent.” While the article on Sears chose to focus on the medical and psychological reasons for choosing the attachment parenting technique; the “Feminism and Attachment Parenting” article chose to focus solely on the perceptions and overall support levels of the
