Jonathan Swift was a satiracle writer who showed his patrioism to Ireland by writing about problems such as the starvation and the devaluation of coins. In his essay, "The Modern Proposal" he describes the unfair treatment of the Irish people. He even compares them to eat saying that is how society sees them. The difference between today's issues and issues in the 1600s and 1700s is that it is not the Irish people being mistreated in England but Muslim Americans in America. In my opinio the most mistreated group or culture in todays society are Muslims. A muslim is a person who folows the teachings and philosiphies of Islam. Because people who are Muslim or come from a country with a high Islam following are usually targetted because of the …show more content…
The recent election of Trump in particular has increased the violence and conflict agianst Muslims and Muslim Americans. Even before the Election of Trump, Muslims were looke at in suspicion because of the attacks on American soil on September 11, 2001. The easy identifications of followers of Islam is their head dresses and clothing, this makes them a easy target for violence. One example of the increasing tensions is attacks of Muslims and anything affiliated with Islam. On March 27, 2002 in Florida, a man drove his truck into Mosque attempting to kill anyone in his way. This is just one example of how Muslim American are de-humanized and targeted for their religous beliefs. This is a very apparent way that they are targetted but another way is politically. Some political catidatees are trying to seclude and edge Muslims out of inherent rights. Because of one event, the attacks on Setember11, 2001 a whole culture and people group have recieved immence seclution and agression. Though some Muslims are involved in terrosist groups not all are and it is actually a statistic that there is only a small amount of Muslim Terrorist compared to the whole people
In Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal”, a speaker states his proposal for preventing the children of poor people in Ireland from being a burden to their parents or country (Swift 1). The author carefully constructs his argument before leading into his absurd proposal supporting the consummation of one-year old children. The speaker first addresses the problem in the opening paragraph, then goes into discussing why other solutions have fallen short, and then until why his solution is the only option.
In paragraphs 29-31, Swift mentions several expedients, such as taxes, wearing homemade clothes, rejecting foreign luxury, curing vices among women, instilling the virtues of patriotism, taxing the absentees, and rejecting divisiveness while promoting honest, industry, and skill. Swift’s speaker stated at the end of all his expending, “How preceptors!” Swift’s rhetorical purpose is to make the reader realize that he is ironic as well as understand what he actually stands for. The reader learns that Swift is forced to resort to ironic tone to reveal his true intention, which would otherwise go unnoticed. Swift is ironic because there is no way his expedients could succeed in a time that Ireland was in, he was mainly trying to highly the economic problems affecting the county at the time.
The sarcastic views of Swift’s understanding of the poverty of Ireland leads him to make a proposal for a solution to poverty, where he ignores the concern of human morale by displaying the lacking efforts of England to help. Swift uses methods that work to get or help better understand a situation, for example being sarcastic in a situation where a person wants something out of the situation by satire. The undeniable effect of satire catches the attention of England to further display the poverty of Ireland which is displayed throughout Swift’s Modest Proposal with exaggeration, incongruity and reversal.
The revolutionary world has depended on education since the beginning of time. Education, as a key to all the developmental and advancing changes in the world, has as well taken a different dimension. Sir K. A Modest Proposal is a satirical pamphlet that examines the attitude of the rich towards the poor starving children in their society. Jonathan Swift uses a number of rhetorical devices effectively as he highlights his proposal. He uses logical fallacies, metaphors, repetition and parallelism as well as humor, sarcasm and satire tone to highlight these negative attitudes.
America has been dealing with external attacks, but has ignored that hate crimes have been on the rise since 2014. America’s biggest threat is seen as ISIS, a terrorist group that has been attacking many countries around the world. Many Muslims have had to deal with the effects of uneducated people, as over
Jonathan Swift’s essay, “A Modest Proposal,” works to get the Irish people to resist England. He discusses how Ireland is in bad shape, why England is to blame, and how there are reasonable solutions to these problems.
One incident that had really triggered all of this was what happened in New York City on September 11th, 2001. On this day that is better known as 9/11, 19 militants from the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four aircrafts. Two of said aircrafts crashed into the World Trade Center and one crashed into the Pentagon near Washington D.C. During those attacks, Over 3000 people were killed, including more than 400 firefighters and policemen. After the incident, Americans had been paranoid about people who were Muslim, as Al-Qaeda was an Islamic group. Many years later to this day, anti-Muslim bigotry has got much much worse. Things like portrayal and treatment of Muslims has gotten terribly worse.
While one child receives a new gadget, another receives even more hunger. Although that truth is difficult to swallow, the reality is that there are a few children born into wealth and many others into extreme poverty; worst part is that the vast majorities of those children later lack even the tools to change their situation. An even more gruesome reality is the one that Jonathan Swift faced when he wrote his Modest Proposal in his native Ireland. Besides the lack of wealth, there were many issues such as mothers who were not allowed to work for their needs, or the handcuffing feudal system. Then there was the discussion of how the greed of today is literally destroying the Earth and our children in the process. Such that the children cannot share their gadgets in one country and others share their little food in another country. But Jonathan did say he was open to any other ideas, maybe our present time has the tools to end this inequality. If nothing
Authors tend to use a variation of rhetorical strategies to effectively convey their central idea. In Modest Proposal, Dr. Jonathan Swift professionally presents the overwhelming conflict occurring in Ireland during the early seventeenth century. By including his trenchant use of satire, Swift can effectively call attention to the unjust conditions of Ireland to the English people. In the proposal, Swift presents a very persuasive rhetorical strategy through his use of a formal diction, a grotesque imagery, and a satirical irony, that all transition to his use of appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos, to generate the purpose of his central idea. To effectively focus the reader’s attention on the tragedy taking place in Ireland, Swift includes
Civil rights leader and activist, Martin Luther King Jr., in his book, Why We Can’t Wait, describes the African Americans’ unfair treatment in the 1960’s. By writing this preface, King tries to depict the way all races view one another, and to find a state of equality for all people throughout his book. He adopts a desperate tone in order to prove that anyone can stand up and fight for their rights no matter their color of skin. Throughout this passage, Martin Luther King reveals his compelling position on the ceasing of segregation by incorporating rhetorical strategies to manifest his point: passionate word choice to indicate the sorrows the African Americans face, rhetorical questions to frame the reader’s reasoning on the Negros’ living conditions, and an anaphora to illustrate the knowledge all colored people have on their inferior lives.
On the one hand Jonathan Swift uses the satire as a way of presenting material so as to criticize comically, by making fun of the object of critique. In A Modest Proposal, Swift tells his aggravation set up at the ineptitude of Ireland's politicians, the hypocrisy of the wealthy, the tyranny of the English, and the squalor and degradation in which he sees so many Irish people living. While A Modest Proposal complains about the poor situation of an Ireland from England's exploitation, it also expresses Swift's disgust at the Irish because they can’t speak up for themselves. Swift's piece protests the utter inefficacy of Irish political leadership, and it also attacks the orientation of so many contemporary reformers toward economic utilitarianism.
Many Americans started fearing Muslims after the September 9th, 2001 incident. After that incident, Islam became the most hateful religion to many in the US. The hatred against Islam worsened when the 45th president Donald Trump was elected. People began doing hateful things towards Muslims because they knew there would not be any consequences to their actions. All of these factors have contributed to the fear many Muslims living in the United States feel. Being a Muslim American living in the US has become complicated. Safety has become a concern for many Islamic families living in the US. Islam is one of the most peaceful religions on earth. However, we cannot ignore that there are people who use religion to commit hateful crimes. It is
There is no doubt that the formation of the Islamic State in the Middle East has created religious tension throughout the world. Furthermore, Western media appears somewhat biased towards the Muslim faith by publishing content specifically aimed to fit Western values. This has led to the rise of Islamophobia, and in turn, an ‘evil’ mindset. Some politicians have even gone far enough to propose a deportation of Muslims from the United States. Additionally, numerous Muslims face discrimination and even violent attacks on a day to day basis. This is similar to the actions taken against Jews in Nazi Germany at the beginning of the
Ever since the start of September 11, 2001, Muslims around the world and in the United States have been targeted, taken to war, murdered,
