The most controversial topic in the history of the world is becoming more prominent in my generation. It has been argued for decades and is becoming more popular in the twenty-first century. There are two opinions to the topic; pro-life and pro-choice. Each topic strongly believes what they believe, and there is no happy-medium of this topic. Abortion is a very despairing debate that ruins relationships and hurts society as a whole. As it continues to expand and become more despairing, more and more states agree to accept the morality of abortion and allow it to become legal. “According to studies released in 2005 by the Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health (PRCH) and The Guttmacher Institute, there were 1.29 million abortions performed in this country. Research by the same group shows that in 1994, approximately half of all pregnancies in the United States were unintended, with only about half of those actually ending in abortion.” The morality and growth of …show more content…

In my opinion there are two key elements that go in to if one thinks abortion should be legal or not. The first is determining whether the fetus is a human life at birth or at conception. This is very important in determining if abortion should be legal because if the fetus is considered human at conception, then they are granted human rights. The second and most controversial issue discussed when debating abortion is the rights of the pregnant mother. Do the women have the rights to terminate the fetus? Should women have the right to abort the baby without the father’s permission? These are important questions that tie into each other and must be answered before determining if abortion should be legal or not. Many other subtle arguments for and against abortion are discussed but are not the foundations of the debate, such as safety, tax dollars, effects on women, and cases of
