The More That You Read The More Places You Ll Go Analysis

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you will go.” This is one of my favorite quotes, and not because it rhymes. The speaker, Dr. Seuss, relays a belief simple enough for a 6 year-old to understand. A belief that I strongly agree with which is to educate yourself. Answers to many questions lie between the bindings of a book. I recently came in contact with this belief this summer.

From the article “How to Make It in College, Now That You’re Here,” the writer Brain O’keeney mentioned at the end of it, “Going to colleges can be an exciting time. You do learn. And when you learn things, the world becomes a more interesting place” (690). Deciding in learning things or understanding points sometimes are dreary, but there are lots of things and ways that radically refreshed it and make it interesting for us. Learning supplies people understanding processes, and that can be existing and gratifying for them.

This quote has always been inspiring in my life. I believe learning is not limited to just the classroom but takes places through out our life. Right education not only enhances personal development and social inclusion, but also increases competitiveness.

Having strong learning skills are linked to the likelihood of getting a job, making a decent salary, and being confident in training programs or college. Having little or no learning

I want so badly, as your mom, to think of something inspirational to say or to give you at graduation. I keep thinking I should buy you the book "The Places You'll Go" so I can use it to write you a letter with references to the inspirational messages inside including the words," Oh, the places you'll go, today is your day, your mountain is waiting so get on your way", but you already know where you are going and I am pretty sure you have a vague idea of some of the mountains you have to climb in the coming years, not to mention you have been on your way or heading towards your destination since you started high school. In spite of this fact, I am giving you the book to have and contemplate, but I don't think you need it. Really, it is just

When I first heard the poem, “Oh, the places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss, I thought it was just meant for children. However, after carefully listening to the words, I began to realize that it fit the journey of my senior year in high school. I have had some great experiences and a few challenging experiences this year. The poem says, “You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that life’s a Great Balancing act.” This fits me well because over my senior year, I have had to balance my friends and family with my school work along with other little things that came along during the year. My senior year has been challenging because I know this is my last chance to get it together and improve my grades. Not only has my senior year consisted of pulling up my GPA, but deciding what my plans are going to be after high school has been stressful as well. To truly understand what my senior year has been like. I must follow Dr. Seuss’s poem and reflect on where I have been this year, what this year has meant to me and where I plan to go.

I nearly use all of the information and skills I learn in my everyday life. Soon that will form my character as an adult. It is clear that school is a means of learning but multiple children do not believe that they will use most of the knowledge they gain from this source. Numerous people do not know how to use school knowledge in everyday life. A knowledge that can help me in everyday life would be Critical Thinking. “Critical Thinking skills teach a variety of skills that can be applied to any situation in life that calls for reflection, analysis and planning”(What) said S. M. Rayhanul Islam. Since I use this concept in school, I have already prepared myself in this area for adulthood but I still have an abundance of knowledge yet to learn. In the article, School Knowledge and Its Relevance to Everyday Life in Rural Western Kenya it states, “School knowledge is believed to transform and change children and the status of the educated person draws its importance from the relevance of education in everyday life” (School).This quote shows that students that behave a certain way in school will probably use that same concept after they graduate from high school. How far they will go in life will depend on the way they act. As many people say knowledge is power. Those students that pay attention to lecture and use their gained knowledge as resources to do more will probably be better off in life than if it was the other way around. I use this mindset in my everyday school life. This is the main way in getting into that right track, to get educated. It causes students to have lots of experience so when they are set free on their own, they will at least have some type of knowledge which they can build themselves from. This is the reason why I am doing volunteer work and scholarships -- in hopes of getting into different environments to experience life besides school. I will use

The vocabulary used is not simple by any means, but at the same time is not too difficult for someone with a high school education to read. While the text is clearly academic, the words used are easy to understand and context clues provides clarity.

A good example of this quote would be, if a teenager wanted to learn to be a musician, and she knew how to sing; and she was okay on the piano, but not really good. She thought she could become a good musician like that, but throughout her life she neglected her piano and didn't sing because she thought she was good where she was at. This girl went to get a gig at a wedding, but she forgot everything she knew about the piano because she had never learned more of the piano. Her failure to learn more caused her to get fired from her gig and lose a lot of money. This shows you that learning more things really can help in the long run.

“You're on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.” Senior year got here so slow, but went even slower. Through my journey of my senior year the poem by Dr. Seuss “Oh the Places You’ll Go” really put words in place to describe the year. There have been many highs and lows to make it a memorable year. As I prepare to graduate from Amory High School on May 19, 2016, this poem had helped me reflect on where I have been this year, what this year has meant to me, and where I plan to go.

In the article “10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day”, Lana Winter-Hebert expands on the ten benefits of reading, which include mental stimulation, stress reduction, vocabulary expansion, and more. She made an analogy saying “reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”, and she proves this theory in her writing. When reading a book, all of your attention and focus are in on that book and you tend to forget all about your worries and personal problems, so reading is initially reducing stress levels and brings about inner peace and tranquility. Reading can additionally help you in your future life. Studies have proved that staying mentally stimulated can delay or even prevent diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

When I read the aphorism The doors of wisdom are never shut, it stuck out to me because I enjoy learning things. When I was little, I would read my mother's college biology books because they were interesting. I can not stand to think that in some third world countries they do not have access to things that we learned in elementary school. I think that it means that you can always find knowledge and better yourself if you try.

Reading for me has been a big improvement since my high school years. Back then, I did not like to read and I would avoid it at all cause. Obviously it would affect my grade but I just could not pick up the book and read. Now a days, I actually enjoy reading, and it all started when my son was small I used to read to him every night before bed, now I read to my daughter (my son does his own reading now). Once I got in the habit of reading I traded the TV for a book. I was very proud of myself when I actually finished the book and it encouraged me to continue to read. So I started taking trips with my kids to the local library. (Funny thing we all have a library card). I have read books that I would have never thought I would actually read. My reading has improved and I don’t have a lot a difficulty concentrating, just yesterday I was reading my history book in the cafeteria at COC.
