Will Kane is a sheriff and Sanger is a hunter. "A man ought to be able to make his final speech to his deputies" ( Foreman 292 ). "Me he made a hunter" ( Connell 219 ). When there were fighting both of there villains wanted them dead. The most important part of both of these characters is they were both brave and never gave up no matter what. "Rainsford had fought his way through the bush for two hours" ( Connell 11
In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell and the poem “Porphyria’s Lover” by Robert Browning, the authors use characterization and imagery to convey that the desire for power can drive man to psychotic actions.
Whenever a movie based on a book is produced, similarities must exist. It is crucial that there is correlation throughout the plot of both works in order for the story to be told. One example of a similarity between the plot of both versions of The Most Dangerous Game is that Rainsford and Zaroff were both experienced hunters. Zaroff had hunted all kinds of prey all over the world, and Rainsford was famous for his books on hunting. This made Zaroff’s hunt more enjoyable and Rainsford’s fight for his life more terrifying. Also, in both the movie and short story, Zaroff used dogs to hunt Rainsford. This illustrates that Zaroff did not exactly play fair in the story or the movie. Likewise, there are also major comparisons between the resolution of the literary work and the resolution of the motion picture. For example, in both endings, Rainsford was victorious. He was the first person to
The Most Dangerous Game was a story made by Richard Connell in 1924, and had a movie adaptation in 1932. The short story tells about a man stranded on an island by the name of Rainsford. He finds Zaroff, a general with a great lust for hunting, who hunts people and Rainsford himself going to be hunted. He then attempts to outwit the general and ends up possibly taking his place. The film tries to encapsulate the excitement and story of the original version with more enticing visual effects and mostly succeeds. Although the film shares many themes and characteristics as the story, it has also changed many key factors.
Though both stories have so many differences, they also share many similarities. Both stories, “The Sniper” and “The Most Dangerous Game”, have a dark, serious mood. This mood makes both stories more exciting and suspenseful. Both stories are about risks, which mean that deaths will happen in the story.
Resourcefulness is being able to overcome difficulties quickly and in a clever way. Resourcefulness can also be using one’s surroundings for his/her benefit with prior knowledge and experience. In Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character Rainsford shows these skills of resourcefulness as he tries to survive the hunt. Rainsford is an experienced big game hunter that is trapped on a tropical jungle covered island with another big game hunter, General Zaroff. Zaroff has gained so much experience in hunting, due to this he has lost interest in hunting animals and now enjoys the hunt of humans. Rainsford is put in the position to be torched or participate in a game of hunting. When Rainsford is challenged to this game of hunting he is forced to try and survive. Rainsford is able to survive the hunt because he uses his resources and prior knowledge to weaken Zaroff helping him win the hunt.
The Most Dangerous Game was produced as a movie in 1932 and is very similar to the book published in 1924. Although the book and movie are very similar there are quite a few differences. I mean there was a shark attack and a big introduction scene on the boat but that wasn't in the book, but apart from that minor stuff there was one major difference between the book and movie. In the movie there is a woman named Eve with her brother on the island, this wasn't in the book. And it's not just the beginning of the movie the woman is in the plot almost for the whole movie! So this change kind of puts a twist on the story and makes the book and movie very different, mainly because the focus isn't just on Rainsford and General Zaroff, it's on Eve as well!
In every story there was a setting with danger. In “Harrison Bergeron’’ there wasn’t dangerous, it was 2081 and everyone in the U.S were equal. “The most dangerous game’’ they were on an island in the Caribbean with no one living there but Zarff. In “Sniper’’ there was they were In the Irish war so they were always in danger.
There happen to be different settings in both of the short stories but both of the settings adapt well with their plots. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” the setting takes place in the early 1920’s after the First World War on a small tropical island somewhere in the Caribbean, known as Ship-Trap Island by the sailors. Amongst the sailors, they have a mysteriously threatening reputation, which typically scares others. Individuals who pass by the area of Ship-Trap Island sense a subtle, deceptive sense of evil that haunts a number of individuals. The island is covered with a condense jungle that extends all the way down to its insidious, rocky terrain. Whereas, in the short story, “Young Goodman Brown” the story is set in the late seventeenth
Isolation is very hard to overcome and defeat. "The Most Dangerous Game" starts off with the main character, Rainsford, falling off a boat. He swims to a random island and luckily gets welcomed in by the owner of the house. The owner invites him for dinner and as they eat they talk about hunting animals across the world. The owner of the house, Zaroff, to Rainsford surprise, hunts human instead of animals because he is too good at hunting animals. He asked Rainsford to hunt humans with him but Rainsford says no. Now Zaroff wants to hunt Rainsford so he does. Will Kane is the main character in High Noon. He is the marshal of the town and he carries the lode of responsibility on his back. He sentenced an enemy to jail, but now that enemy has come back will his crew to kill Will Kane. In both High Noon and "The Most Dangerous Game" there are similarities and differences in the theme, main characters, and setting.
High Noon, which is an old western type of movie, is about a sheriff named Will Kane that has to fight to save his town. "The Most Dangerous Game", which is a short story about a man named Rainsford who has to fight for his survival. High Noon and "The Most Dangerous Game" have similar main characters and similar story patterns, but have a different overall theme.
When you watch the movie High Noon, and read the story "The Most Dangerous Game" you may not see many similarities or differences when you first read, or watch. But you might start to put the puzzle pieces together when you watch a second time or begin to think about what's the same or different about them. One of the main similarities in both stories is that the main characters are outnumbered by their enemies. This is a reoccurring theme in both. In High Noon, there are four bad guys coming to town to take their revenge on Will Kane. In "The Most Dangerous Game" Rainsford is hunted by Ivan, general Zaroff, and his pack of dogs. Another similarity I spotted was when both characters needed help the most there was no one who was brave enough to help them. One of the major differences between them was they both had different settings, and move at a different pace. However this helps build the stories. Both stories have their own way of building suspense. Each of these stories take showing the theme and differences to a whole new level
Whenever people go to the movies or read a book, they long for an interesting story to be entertained by. Whether it is action filled or suspenseful, they want a stimulating plot that makes them feel good. The two stories, High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game, build up the protagonist Rainsford and Kane in different ways, and create similarities and differences in which these characters have. The differences impact the stories to make them different; however, they still end up being some what the same. As these stories progress, there are similarities that start to form. High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game both have common ideas that help create the stories but also share a handful of differences as well.
