Terrorism occurs when a group or an individual, uses the combination of violence and fear to enforce, political, religious or financial goals. Al Qaeda is a terrorist organisation which, emerged in the late 20th century. To understand the organisation’s motivation, it is important to explore their ideology and their portrayal within the organisation and the outside world.
The formation of Al- Qaida is believed to have occurred after the Soviet –Afghan wars (1979-1989) (MI5).The word “Al – Qaida” means “the base”. The Groups religious teachings are thought to have derived from Sunni Muslims from one of the teachers like Mohammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and Sayyid Qutb. Al Wahab, teachings was from the 18th century, teachings that condemned doctrines and practices which were followed after Mohammed death, as he felt that Islam had been comprised and dishonoured. Making statements like that, made him unpopular with Western world, as he resides along with his cohorts in Saudi Arabia, teaching Wahhabism (leading religious idea),which is believed might have been one of the factors that sparked Osama radicalisation. The latter Sayyid Qutb, was an Egyptian intellect, who stated that the West is the enemy of Islamic states, which influence Middle East governments because they do not follow Islamic rule anymore. and the way to oppose this is, for Jihad to arise, strengthen and protect Islam.
As mentioned previously, Bin laden fatwa against the west, incites campaigns –especially against the U.S. The reason why the United States has been targeted is based on two reasons. First ,it has been reported that the U.S has occupied Islamic states such as the Arabian Peninsula for nearly a decade.
