The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test was developed by Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Myers in the early 20th century. Their dedication to developing this test was inspired by the work of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung who introduced the theory of psychological types. The personality test taken, identified me as an ISTJ with the temperament of SJ. The results of this test will be explained by analyzing to some degree what makes me preferential to some type traits over others and how it has defined many of my choices and decision making. My ISTJ typology assessment will also include information based on my professional experience to support where I had been both efficient and inefficient and how it could potentially affect particular assignments or coworkers. I will also explain how MBTI influences the workplace with similarities and differences between individuals, noting that some personality types are better suited to certain careers and how workforce diversity also applies to MBTI. The parallel between the biblical covenant and organization behavior will also be explained with their likeness.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality (MBTI) was developed by Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Cook Briggs in 1943 during the onset of World War II (Ham, 2016). Briggs recognized the need for psychological instruments that would value human differences and utilized the C G Jungs theory in creating the MBTI (The Story of Isabel Briggs Myers, n.d). According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation (2014) Myers and Briggs initially tested a group of 20 relatives and friends. They utilized such sample, because they thought they could predict their personality solemnly on observation which by observation. The initial random sample did not truly represent a whole population, but merely were used due to availability.
Although this was not the first personality assessment that I?ve completed, after reading this week?s study material, I can honestly say that I have gained a more expansive understanding and perspective on the subject. Some may wonder if it is possible to explore every nuance of such a complex part of a being, but there are ways to determine what type of personality a person has, and then branch off into a more detailed examination of that person specifically. Combined with other factors, such as personality disorders and the environment that someone has grown up in, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, test (Enrichment 1) and analysis can determine an accurate portrayal of a personality. Created in 1943 by Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers, it is a system made up of four basic functions and sub functions that combine to make a personality type. The mother and daughter team constructed it off of Jung’s theories (History 2). Based on this system, one of the most common personality types in the US population is called an ESTJ, and one of the least common personality types is called an INFJ. There are many differences and similarities between these two types. An ESTJ personality, overall, is practical, fact-based, and outgoing, whereas an INFJ personality is more private and makes decisions based on feelings; however, both are organized people who make good leaders and are capable of great success in roles that involve helping others.

This assists the coaches in deciding who to keep or cut, but more importantly, it allows the executives to assess each athlete’s character. Likewise, the Myers-Briggs Test has everyone answer a myriad of questions to figure out their specific personality. I received the designation of introverted, sensing, feeling, and judging or “ISFJ.” Simply, I am someone who avoids receiving attention, builds deep, personal friendships, and judges people harshly for their mistakes. Additionally, this test was extremely informative because it helped me identify possible future jobs and explained how I can further excel within social relationships.
A career as a mental health counselor will still give me the ability to care and help others for a long time to come. I began the decision making process and planning for a fresh career years before the actual decision. To be a professional counselor further education is required. Once graduate school started last July I have enjoyed the process, have remained determined to stay balanced and have not allowed myself to feel an overload of stress. A career change at this phase of life, middle age, has been a positive experience as well as confidence building. It is a challenge I am willing to undertake. Learning how to socialize in big groups and thinking before acting can take you further in life rather than the other way around.The purpose of the Myers-Briggs test is to indicate your personality type by using four scales. The four scales are 1. extroversion/introversion 2.sensate/intuitive, 3. thinking/feeling 4. judging/ perceiving. According to the test, I scored higher of extroversion like than introversion. I also I scored higher in thinking rather than feeling. In other words, using my head other than my heart. Being an extrovert comes with having high energy and the love of being around large crowds. While this is not the first time I have engaged in this kind of personality assessment, there is a welcomed refreshment to be reminded about who I am. The results from the human-metrics typology test by Jung revealed that I am the INTJ type. In breaking down the letters and the categories this is the result.
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) created a strange feeling of joy mixed with feelings of remorse at the same time; I have all these characteristics and still I did not get any leadership role in my life career! Therefore, I believe there are some competencies need to develop. For instance, ENTJs type have difficulty to communicates with SFs type which means I need to develop my Negotiating & Persuasion skills. Furthermore, ENTJs type can be tolerant in the procedures which can lead to loss control the employee and obstacle to achieving the goals. Therefore, I need to develop social awareness skills at workplace to be more flexible with zero tolerance.
For the Myers Briggs personality test I am an ISTP when I am stress and when I am at my best. I was surprised with these results due to the fact that my freshman year in the Harold Leadership Academy I was required to take the Myers Briggs assessment and scored the letters INFJ. I find myself leaning more towards INFJ because the test was at least seventy-five questions. When reading the definitions of ISTP and INFJ I find that I would agree with my personality having a little bit of both. The Myers Briggs Foundation states that INFJ individuals are insightful about others, seek to understand what motivates others, committed to their values, desire to sever the common good, organized, decisive, and seek meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions. An example of how I am an INFJ is that I have chosen a healthcare career that is holistic and identifies what motivates others. I tend to over think situations, conversations, and how I reacted to them. I truly care about the people in my life and I know I pay attention to others especially in class and if they look down I typically ask how they are doing, which allows for them to open up if they wish but also it is how I acknowledge that I see them and care. The Myers Briggs Foundation states that ISTP individuals are tolerant, flexible, quiet observers, analyze what makes things work, organize facts using logical principles and attentive to cause and effect. One hundred seventy-eight anonymous participants (120 females, 48 males, and 10 non-specified genders) between the ages of 18 and 26 participated in a fifteen question survey regarding how portions of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) relate to age and gender. The participants were selected by convenience sampling. Using questions designed to determine two aspects of each subject’s personality type—whether they relied on Intuition and Sensing, and Thinking or Feeling—and comparing this data with gender, no significant correlation between MBTI score and gender were found. The Myers-Briggs Personality Test is discussed in two steps. In Step 1, the results of my Myers-Briggs Personality test are discussed while going into detail about each letter. Real life examples are provided for context of each letter. The weaknesses of each letter are also discussed. The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) enables an individual to gain a deeper insight into their inherent personality traits. For some people, they have had prior knowledge or underlying assumptions about their personality, but this test provides clearer information about each of their identifiable traits. According to the MBTI in Human-metric personality test, my scores were 22% (E) extroverted thinking more than introverted, 9% (N) intuitive as oppose to sensing, 16% (T) thinking more than feeling, and 12% (J) judging as compared to perceiving. Thus, my personality type is ENFJ. The ENFJ personality group is described as a minority group that consists of natural-born leaders, and people filled with passion, and charisma for example, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey; they are notable members of this group, also known as the protagonists (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists apprehend pride in providing guidance for others to improve individually and to improve the community at large (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists find it naturally easy to communicate with others and excel at communicating with other people in person (16personalities, 2016).
There are many important key things a person should be able to do and understand in one’s lifetime. One of those things is knowing and understanding one’s own personality. This is important for one to know because not only is it beneficial to myself or others, but also helps many sub areas in our lives. A prime example would be one’s communication with one another. If someone knew his personality type, he or she will know how to respond or act with someone and understand what someone may be seeing in them when they act. A test to find out one’s personality is called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The purpose of this test according to Myers & Briggs Foundation is to make a model of psychological types using the Jung concept and how it is used in life. The five categories in which personality is broken into is the mind, energy, nature, tactic, and identity. All these five parts have two sides to it and those two sides are what the test finds out for you. Personality is a key way to understand the way one should live and how it may affect many aspects in life.
