In A Free Society the Police Usually Only Show Up After the Trigger Is Pulled
Upstate New York sheriff urges licensed gun owners to carry firearm with them. The sheriff was quoted as saying, "It 's better to have it than not have it. We 're partners with the public in crime prevention."(Associated Press, 2015).
In November of 2015 a sheriff in Idaho had advised citizens of the county to purchase or to own firearms. The reason for the sheriff 's public statement was because of two robberies by armed intruders who opened fire on homeowners.
As some of you may recall, two years ago, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke aired a public service announcement that urged residents to arm themselves for their own protection. The police were

Freedom comes at a cost, and so some say it is not free, but what really is free in this world. Too many people today expect free things, but liberty, the right to bear arms and the right to come and go as you please do come at a cost.
Neither you, nor I care to be stopped every time we step foot outside our homes and questioned about our destination, where have we been, where are our papers, who do we plan to see that day and so on. We live free, and this means there are people that wish to do us harm that are also living free in this country. Free to plot, free to talk about doing harm to others on Facebook, free to purchase items to make bombs. Free until they commit the acts.
In some countries it is a crime to speak out against the government. The citizens are not allowed to possess any firearms, are not allowed to speak out against local authorities, and it is assumed that any and all phone conversation are recorded and analyzed to ensure there is not any civil disobedience going on. In comparison we are free.
Yesterday a police officer was recounting the horrific scene inside the office building in San Bernardino just minutes after the shooters had left the scene. Recounting what he saw as the first person to enter the building after the shooting had stopped.
The officer shows up to the smell of gunpowder and fear. The panicked faces of victims and the carnage is what he first saw. He did not see the shooters planning the attack, he did not
In response to these attacks, increasing numbers of Americans are feeling the need to arm themselves as a means of self defense. In response to the shooting in California, local gun shops are noticing roughly a 25% increase in business. Likewise, local Sheriff’s departments are experiencing a large increase in concealed carry permit requests. In Orange County, California, the Sheriff’s department received 130 permit requests in the week following the attack—up from their average of 30—while neighboring San Bernardino County screened seven times their weekly average (Mather). The increase in California gun sales shows that residents want the ability to defend themselves in the event of another shooting—an opportunity these residents would not have as a result of a ban on personal firearms.
Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Bill Yessman posted on the Scuyler County Sheriff's Facebook a message to gun owners. He posted 'This is a personal decision that each of you has to make, and I encourage everyone that holds a permit to carry a concealed handgun, and feels comfortable carrying a handgun to exercise their right to carry'. "It's their choice to make. I'm not urging them I'm just saying if you want to, I support you to do it," Sheriff Yessman replied in an interview with WENY News Friday.
With the many officer-related shootings that occur in our world. Many may ask, Are there specific things, we can do to help make officer-related shootings more accurate? Recent studies and surveys have shown that those police officers, who were involved in officer-related shootings, were not fully aware of what had happened. The studies and surveys also showed that many of the officers’ memories and perceptions were not as accurate as they had thought. Therefore, in order for us to help those officers, we need to find specific ways, in which, we are able to help. First, there should be an agency that would help with the investigating of the officer-related shooting. Some law enforcement agencies establish specific
Guns are a major means of defense for American citizens today. Some state governments, like California, have put a limit on how much ammunition a magazine can hold. The restriction to ten rounds that California has set out was never proven to reduce crime. Wilderness Unlimited CEO, Rick Copeland, admits that the new laws haven’t affected his hunting. He also says that, “creating laws that don’t change anything is just a big waste of time” (Richman). If this law does have an effect, than it is not a positive one. A woman in Atlanta once defended herself and her children from an intruder in their home with a revolver. Despite emptying all six rounds, the
The first article I read was “Wounded Manhattan Beach Police Officer Recounts Chaos in Las Vegas.” The article was about police officer who gets shot at the Las Vegas shooting while trying to save people. The shooting was at a concert and nobody heard the gun fire till someone was shot. During the shooting there were multiple victims. A lot of people died, but some just got wounded. Even though the police officer got shot he still wanted to help out and did. Many lives were saved including his.
This video on Based Patriot features President Trump’s heartfelt speech on the horrific massacre in Las Vegas. The President specifically focused on the heroic act by both on and off duty officers to save innocent lives. He explained how these on and off duty officers were standing up, in the line of fire, directing others around them to safety. He explained how one officer who was off duty at the time put on a safety vest, stood up, making herself a target, in order to help those around her get out of harm’s way. Below is a small exert of the speech, which is well worth viewing in its entirety:
After a fatal shooting of an offender the officer will be quickly rushed into questioning and to get a full report to get the most accurate story.
On April 7, 2001 Timothy Thomas was walking down a dark alley in Cincinnati without a weapon; Officer Stephen Roach had his hand on the trigger the whole time, looking for a target, looking to shoot. It took one
Armed police are required to become skilled at responding to events that demand the use of firearms (Fyfe, 1981). Arguments arise from the public's failure to recognise the police’s difficulty in making a straightforward judgment as to whether coercive force or the use of guns is required in events (Dick, 2005). When police do use guns, there is a risk that police may misfire and consequently cause more victims as a result (McCulloch, 1989). Furthermore, in circumstances that require force, natural biological impulses kick in; informally known as the fight or
You are walking down a crowded street. You have had an enjoyable evening doing whatever it is you do for entertainment. Suddenly, you hear what sounds like gunshots. Instantly, the mob of people around you begins to run in all directions. You of course, not wanting to be left out in the open, follow the nearest terrified group. You see a squad of police officers coming toward you. Thankful for their protective presence, you smile inwardly and silently thank them for their service. That is, until one cop points directly at you and runs in your direction. Stunned by his approach, you mutely obey as the officer you so highly praised moments before pushes you to the ground, holds a gun to your head, and places too-tight handcuffs onto your wrists.
As it has been argued, access to fire arms is an important right to some people. These people believe it is a means of defense. “Why would criminals attack an open carrier who can clearly defend himself when there are other victims around?"(Brett, P.2016). According to Brett Pucill, the President of Ohio Carry, wrote an article for USA Today concerning the right to bear arms. In his article, he stated that, “Open carry of fire arms can scare criminals away from victims”. A criminal who is planning to attack someone, and surprisingly sees an individual carrying a weapon openly might have second thoughts. Pucillo argues that a person openly carrying a gun discourages the criminal from harming or killing an innocent person or persons. The criminal
The NYPD is the largest police department in the country. In a day to day, an NYPD patrol officer puts on his uniform, gets ready for inspection, receives a recap of incidents that have occurred in the last 24 hours, main focal points for the day, and lastly go out on the field to protect and serve the community. Being an officer is a dangerous job, as you never know when it could be the last day serving your city. Being an officer you can be called to attend a dispute between a couple to being called to respond to shots being fired and not expecting what could happen upon arrival. Two patrol officers from the 71st precinct O. Nunez and O. Connor are dispatched to a location where
in the law enforcement community to become “jumpy” and uneasy around individuals that refuse to follow simple orders. There are many times when “bad cops” are uncovered through an investigation that damages the respected name of the police. However the media’s coverage of these types on incidents does not help in the matter. (Barnett 2016)
Most officer go through their whole life without pulling the trigger and this episode reveals that. The true meaning behind the work of an officer. An officer doesn’t want to pull the trigger, it’s a last resort. Everyone should understand that a police officer rarely pulls the trigger on his gun. Sometimes it’s unlucky and it has to happen to prevent further incidents at an occasion. But police officers don’t use their gun like we all believe, it’s a
Anything. No luck. Nothing. All the files had wiped themselves, every man was dead, no finger print…. A double tap to the head. 53 men dead, 106 bullets found. That was expected, but still disappointing. Months of searching – the police were nowhere. Including the most recent attack, a man had killed over 400 people. In places such as this, an attack on the authority figures was found to be often, expected even, and people begged the police to stop searching for the same man. However, this was no ordinary attack. For the evidence found on the man was too little and the sound of the man’s laugh was the sound of a man who was accustomed to violence, accustomed to killing. Each attack was too well planned to be a couple of drunks, but wasn’t planned enough to be a terrorist organisation. And each and every attack was the same. A call at 0200. A man with a silenced gun. Two shots to the head. And a laugh that shattered the windows. And no-one in southern America had a record like that, but then again, no-one had emptied a cop station that swiftly either. There was one survivor though. A cop who had seen the man coming. But this cop could not talk, because he had a smile etched across his face. With a
