The Outsiders Movie And Book Comparison

The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across. There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the movie was missing a lot.

On April 24, 1967, S.E. Hinton published the book The Outsiders. Then sixteen years later director Francis Ford Coppola’s movie version of The Outsiders was released on March 23, 1983. The book is about a young boy named Ponyboy who lives with his two older brothers because his parents were killed in a automobile accident. Ponyboy goes through a lot of tough times because he is a part of this group known as the Greasers. The Greasers are a group that are known for being from the poor side of town and the Socs are the rich kids on the other side of town. Throughout the entire book the two groups kept fighting and then something terrible happened that changed Ponyboy’s life forever. The movie and book have many differences

The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.

The novel of The Outsiders is better than the movie. The novel gives more vivid details than the movie does. Even though the movie shows actual image, the novel lets you have your own image of what’s going on. The movie did not show the part where Ponyboy was getting jump. That is where most of the conflicts started. It also didn’t show the part where they were at the court, which is a really important part in The Outsiders. The feeling and tension are more intense in the novel than it is in the movie. Over all, the movie is not better than the novel.

Both the novel and the film share indistinguishable qualities. For example,They both have the same places as the novel.There were the DX,Tasty Freeze,the lot,the church,and the characters houses.Since they had the same places the same things happened.They have the same places so,they have the same scenes.However,they seem identical, they have a lot of differences.

Along with the similarities there are many differences in The Outsiders. In the beginning of the movie it started with a fight between some of the socs or greasers. In the book it

The book is better because it has more events than the movie. Watching “The Outsiders” movie, I was a little disappointed when certain events from the book weren’t in the movie. Ponyboy and Cherry didn’t talk about the sunsets very much in the movie. In the book, they talk about how they admire just sitting and watching the sunsets. Another event that wasn’t in the movie is when Pony and Two-Bit see Johnny’s mother at the hospital. I think that event is really important because it shows a little of what Johnny has gone through at home. However, some may say that the movie is better because it has all of the major events. But, even the less important events are still significant in some way.

In the book “The Outsiders” there is more detail and the plot seems to go at a slower pace than the movie. The greasers are from the west side of town while

The movie “the Outsiders” is very different from the book, written by S. E. Hinton. The very first scene in the movie shows Ponyboy writing in his journal the very first words in the book, “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight…” (The Outsiders). The book does not show or say in the beginning of the book that Pony was writing in his journal. Almost right after that scene it barely shows a slight argument/fight between greasers and socs. The book tells us that the fight was more serious and Ponyboy got hurt pretty bad, when in the movie all Pony gets is a little scar. After Johnny gets hurt when the old church catches on fire he ends up dying. Dally, another greaser that is part of the main group of friends, ends up shoplifting because he really cared about Johnny. Dally was eventually shot and killed by the police. The scene in the movie where Dally is in the store, thinking about shoplifting, is not in the book. “He’s just robbed a grocery store and the cops are after him.” (Hinton 153). The whole scene of Dally in the store is not in the book. Although there are many differences between the movie and the book, “the Outsiders”, there are also many similarities.

The Outsiders is a book that has been read by many people. Most of the people have enjoyed the book, but not the movie or vise versa. The Outsiders was very good and had a great story behind it. The reasons why the book is better than the movie are the book gives more detail, people can let their imagination go wild, and the movie leaves out key elements that the book has.

In the book The Outsiders and the movie there are a ton of similarities and differences between the two. While I was reading the book I visualized Johnny as smaller than most sixteen year olds are but I didn’t think he looked that young. In the part where they ran away into the church I imagined it to be bigger and less dirty. I didn’t think that this church has probably been abandoned for a long time. In the scene where Johnny and Ponyboy had to cut and bleach their hair I envisioned their hair to be longer before and I didn’t think that Johnny would look even younger than he did before.

The Outsiders film and novel are both very unique and interesting in their own way they are also both somewhat very similar. But once I got done watching the movie I thought to myself and thought that they are both also very different in their own ways.

The “Outsiders” is a very confusing and a fantastic novel. While watching the was some what similar. Getting into the movie you find there difference The novel and the film share the same qualities. For an example they share all the same characters.

The Outsiders was a book that was written by S. E. Hinton, which was then transferred into a movie directed by Francis Ford Coppla. So the main question is, did Francis Ford Coppla did a good job in translating S. E. Hinton’s book to a movie? My answer would be yes, but only around some parts of the movie. Like the 1st chapter of the book when Ponyboy got ambushed and when some parts were changed, I would of liked it better if it were to stay the same. In comparison to the book, the movie had a little less character development
