War doesn 't determine who 's right, it only determines who 's left, however, war can mean different things to different people in some examples, it may be heroic to fight for your country where for others it is devastating and dehumanising. The films such as The Pianist by Roman Polanski to Blackadder Goodbyeee demonstrate how the war dehumanises people while the American sniper and Dulcie et show that war can be heroic and great to fight for your country. Which signifies that the motives you have for fighting a war determines your attitude towards it.
American sniper is a film by Clint Eastwood it is an inspirational film, which shows the behind the scenes of war and shows how he acts during war and how he reacts to it afterwards we see Chris Kyle and during the war and he acts excited and brave how he can take a man 's life and not care for what he is doing. However, it is just an act he puts on to look tough in front of his fellow soldiers, and when he just says that he is doing his job and he isn’t fazed by the lives he has ended but in reality he is sinking into depression. When Chris Kyle’s wife makes him go to the counsellor to talk about his problems he only tells the counselor that he isn 't worried about the amount of lives he has taken, but more about the lives he could have saved by killing other Iraqis, this may be partially true but he is also
Christopher Scott “Chris” Kyle is renowned as the deadliest sniper in America’s Military history. When Chris was 8 he received his first rifle, a 30-06 bolt action rifle, along with a shotgun, that he used to hunt pheasant, quail, and deer hear his home in Odessa, Texas. On off nights from school, Chris got involved in the sport of rodeo. Chris’s passion for horses and riding turned him into a successful bronco rider. But his career was abruptly ended when Chris suffered a career ending injury to his arm. Looking to take the next step in his life, Chris decided to join the military. Chris originally planned to meet with the Army recruiter, but he was on break at the time. While waiting, Chris got pulled into a room by the Navy recruiter and
Love, an intense feeling of deep affection. loving someone so much, willing to do anything to make that person or place. Perseverance, Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. The movie of American Sniper was based off of a true story of Chris Kyle. Chris Kyle Joined the Navy Seals leaving his wife and kids to protect his country. Throughout the movie it shows how being faithful and perseverance plays a big role in the world we are living in. Based on the complexity and actions of the characters, imagery, symbolism and the angles the camera took, the movie, “ American Sniper” illuminates and emcopasses a theme of Love and Perseverance.
In all his years in the military Chris served four deployments in Iraq and by his own account shot and killed 160 people, a record in U.S history. Also during his time as a Navy seal Chris met his wife Taya and they would go on to have two children together. Chris’s accuracy was feared and respected not just by his comrades but by the militants he combated. Chris Kyle received two awards of the silver star and five for bronze. Chris’s renowned prowess as a sniper, awards of heroism and acclaimed 160 kills made him famous which led to the result of his book and movie. Many of these reasons are why I chose Chris kyle for my hero essay. He was an American war hero, he put his life on the line to serve his country, and received many awards of heroism in battle. Unfortunately several years after Chris left the military in 2009 he was murdered on a gun range by a former marine who had a history of mental
In 2014, Chris Kyle played a role in a movie about a young military soldier called “American Sniper”. The soldier was on active military duty. He had been traumatized overseas by witnessing the violence of war along with the death of many of his friends. When he returns to normal civilian life he had a very difficult time readjusting. He found himself having severe mood swings. At night he could not sleep and would have severe nightmares that kept him up. Anytime a loud noise was to occur near him he would go into a protection mode. He was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Unfortunately at the end of the movie the disorder had taken control of his life and ultimately he did indeed die by suicide. This movie shed the light to many Americans who were unclear as to what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is.
In the movie, the director makes the audience believe Chris Kyle was a very modest man, while in real life, Chris’s friends, family, and fellow soldiers described him to be one that truly enjoyed talking about his legendary status and his heroic war stories. After researching the differences between the real event and the movie, the author of “The week” reveals, “Cooper portrays Kyle as a modest, self-effacing man who discouraged talk of his status as a legend, but the real Kyle was reportedly happy to trade on his reputation and even embellish the tale”(The Week). If the movie is based on the real event, why would the director change Chris’s personality? In the real world, fellow soldiers report Chris as being a hate-filled killer, while in the movie Chris is seen nearly incapable of taking lives of his enemies. After reading, “Eastwood's film depicts Chris Kyle (played by Bradley Cooper) as a conflicted character, struggling with the emotional impact of killing, but Lindy West in The Guardian writes: "The real American Sniper was a hate-filled killer”(The Week). You have to ask yourself this following question, “Why does the director, Clint Eastwood, change so much about Chris Kyle’s
American Sniper (2014) helped bring more light to veterans. As well as what types of services they need to help them readjust after serving in the military. American Sniper (2014) helped say that Veterans needed more rights and more help when it comes to this. This is important because many veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after serving in the military and they may not know where to go for help. Cooper also went and visited with members of the United States armed services and thank them for their service (People 25 Sept
Michael Haneke’s Amour is the story of an elderly couple slowing dying. The film is melancholy, and the filmmaking is mediocre. In praise of the film, TimeOut magazine said: “Amour is devastatingly original and unflinching in the way it examines the effect of love on death”. The film captures the tone of death in an allegorical sense; it’s equally devoid of life as the degenerating characters it depicts.
The Pianist directed by Roman Polanski is based on an autobiography book named The Pianist, which is based on the Holocaust survivor Wladyslaw Szpilman. A polish pianist is forced into the overcrowded Warsaw Ghetto when Warsaw becomes apart of the Nazi-controlled party. As the circumstances get worst for Wladyslaw and his family, they are soon transported to the extermination camp. Wladyslaw is saved and becomes a slave labor that manages to escape. As a Jew who has to manage to survive, Wladyslaw has to find a way to outlive his starvation, and the Nazi Germans. Even though Wladyslaw witness horrifying occurrences, without the help of others his survival would have been fatal.
Imagine living in a world where erasing memories of the past was just a night’s sleep and a click of a button; would you take advantage of this opportunity? In the film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, directed by Michel Gondry, Joel Barish and Clementine Kruczynski did. The two ended their relationship on a bad note which lead Clem to impulsively arrange an operation to zap that memory away. Joel did the same, but instead of letting go of Clem during his operation, he fell back in love with her; with this realization, his character developed throughout the film which reflects the color and mood of each scene and point of his life; Joel in the beginning, Clementine, Joel and Clementine together, and when Joel and Clementine broke up.
In the movie “Shutter Island”, directed by Martin Scorcese, Teddy Daniels is an U.S. marshal and war veteran who seems to be left very distraught when his wife, Dolores, was killed in an apartment fire caused by Andrew Laeddis. The viewer can also see the trauma of when he liberated a concentration camp during WWII because of his reoccurring dreams of both his experience at the camp and his wife. When the viewer first sees Teddy it is 1954 and he and his new partner, Chuck, are on a ferry headed to Shutter Island, which is home to Ashecliffe Hospital for the insane, to investigate the disappearance of Rachel Solando. Rachel was brought to the hospital after drowning her three young children and living in the delusion that her children never died. Teddy’s purpose for taking this assignment is because he believes that Andrew Laeddis is a patient at Ashecliffe.
‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ (Wes Anderson, 2014) combines a perfect mix of nostalgia and history. The film explores the themes of war as it recreates history through mise-en-scene. Anderson also incorporates other themes such as racism and elitism during pre-war Europe. The film widely explores Europe from many viewpoints, one of which is of Mr Moustafa. His nostalgia is seen through flashbacks of when he was a lobby boy that went by the name of Zero. As an audience the depth of his nostalgia is seen through mise-en-scene. With the help of cinematography and props we see can see the time and place that Moustafa acknowledges. Anderson shows how history is reimagined through ones nostalgia. Mr Moustafa recalls events, which he was not present in yet he explains them as if he were there. This also shows how one reimagines history from another due to emotions and personal attachment. Despite the outcome being the same there are many viewpoints it can be seen from.
Talking about war tends to make people feel emotional, feel a sort of adrenaline rush, mad, and even proud. These emotions can at times, in my opinion, bring groups together and separate others because of disagreements on views and beliefs. While it is not easy to talk to anyone about delicate topics such as this one, it is important to acknowledge how war can influence societal behavior and culture. Many can argue that war unites people, particularly speaking of the United States; a country is known for its patriotism and pride when it comes down to its military forces and achievements across nations.
The holocaust is seen as a time of horror, filled with brutal, inhuman actions carried out by the Nazi party. Schindler’s List, directed by Steven Spielberg, is one of the most realistic movies to show the gruesome shock of the concentration camps and torture of Jews. Spielberg captured the true essences of what pain was during World War Two. In 2002, Roman Polanski came out with The Pianist, a movie that focuses on a Jewish man’s struggles outside the walls of a concentration camp. Polanski created a movie that would leave an impression on the viewer. The main purpose of Schindler’s List and The Pianist is to provide an inside view of the
War takes lives. It kills fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, daughters and sons. War is scary, but it is as necessary as it is inevitable. It is a simple fact that people disagree. Not everyone thinks the same way, everyone has their own individual opinion on topics, whether they be trivial or vital. People have debates and debates can get out of
I finish up with a quote which speaks louder than words. “ War Doesn’t Determine who’s right.
