“Some victims reportedly went to bed healthy and died in their sleep” (Gale). This terrible epidemic is known all over the world for it’s deadly and unique characteristics. The diffusion, history, and cure are just a couple universal aspects that contribute to the well known, yet unforgiving disease known as the Bubonic Plague. The Bubonic Plague diffused to many people during its time of dominance. To start, the Bubonic Plague is transmitted to other living organisms in a distinct way. The plague bacteria circulates among different populations of certain rodents without causing an excessive amount of rodent die-off (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”). When the bacteria finishes off the last of the rodent population the fleas are forced to turn on to humans (Benedictow). After three days of fasting the hungry rat fleas will do anything for the smell and taste of fresh human blood (Benedictow). Once the plague bacteria makes its way into the human society everything goes downhill from there. The plague bacteria is most often transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected flea (“Centers for Disease control and Prevention”). Also people can become infected when handling the tissue or body fluids of a plague-infected animal (“Centers for Disease control and Prevention”).
