Synthesis Essay: The Energy Story Of Electricity

In the article "Energy Story". I learned that electricity figures are everywhere and where electricity comes from. Did you know that electricity comes from atoms? atoms are the proton, the neutron, and the electron. Nevertheless, electrons contain negative charge, protons are positive and neutrons are neutral, I also learned that a charged atom is called an ion.

Thomas Edison once said, “I have not failed 10,000 times. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work,” he said of his method of experimentation. “When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the ways that will work.” Up until the late 1830’s electricity was derived from many non-renewable sources such as coal, oil, and natural gases. These are also known as fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are the major energy sources that are being used in the world today. The production of fossil fuels account for more than one-third of U.S global emissions, which trap heat, steadily drive up the plant’s temperature, and create harmful impacts on our health, our environment, and our climate. After reading the articles "Energy Story", and "Conducting Solutions", and viewing a video clip called Hands-On Science with Squishy Circuits, I realized they all have the same idea behind them but different purposes the writer is trying to get you to understand. In the article "Energy Story', the purpose was to inform readers about how energy can be used in our everyday actions and activities. It also talks about what energy does and how it is used, also what it is causing to happen. It describes the steps used to conduct energy and how to consume it. It also includes you having to do an action which will intrigue many readers. The article stated to, take a walk through your house and wright down all the different appliances, devices, and machines that use electricity. This article was a great source for getting information on all different kinds of reason for which energy is around.

In the passage, "Energy Story" the purpose is mainly to explain to you what electricity is. Also meaning how it happens. It gives some diagrams to give you a good explanation just to refer back to when trying to understand what is going on and to get a better understanding.

Fossil fuels and other power generates are slowly changing the world. Alternative power sources are slowly becoming more popular in everyday life while the technology progresses. Using these power sources that don’t pollute the atmosphere could be the change in the world that completely changes the way the world uses energy. Engineers and technicians have been producing these alternative ways for years and years. A few, but not limited to consist of: Solar panels, Wind turbines, Wave tech and much more.

In the video, "Hands-On Science with Squishy Circuits", Anne Marie Thomas does a TED talk about Play-Doh circuits. She explains how she teaches her daughter about electricity by making homemade Play-Doh. At 1:42, she demonstrates with an LED light, Play-Doh that contains salt, Play-Doh that contains sugar, and batteries. She splits the salty Play-Doh in two and connects them with the batteries. To conclude, she sticks the LED light in both of the "squishy circuits" and it turns on.

In the first couple of words it says “An electric current is a flow of electric charge”. In the first sentence it already gets in to talking about electric currents and how they flow through an electric charge. In the first sentence in Energy Story it talks about how “Electricity figures everywhere in our lives”. Both the articles get right in about talking about electricity. In the first seconds of the video she talks about her belief in education and how she found a way to make electricity out of homemade playdough or store-bought play dough. My conclusion is to think of what is around

In each passage that I read, "Energy Story", "Conducting Solutions", and the video "Hands on Science with squishy Circuits" there are many similarities and differences within the information I have gained in the articles and the video. The main idea of this video is to mainly inform you about electricity, the main principles of it, and some different ways to make electricity.

These three sources explain very different things, but they always end up coming back to the main objective of electricity. Energy Story explained how atoms function, and how they, as a whole, are passed through circuits to create electricity. Conducting Solutions explains how liquid solutions including Ammonia and Vinegar are stronger together, and create a stronger conduction of electricity. Hands-On Science with Squishy Circuits visually shows how two batches of homemade play-dough, one made with salt, and the other with sugar can be made into circuits when used together.

Even though electricity has brought mankind great development, “Earth Hour” has packed its campaign with false symbolism. In addition, solar and wind have been good green energy models, but new green R&D should be placed due to their high cost and supply insecurity. When the new Southeast Polk High School opened they added many new energy saving products. This included installing geothermal heating under the high school cutting back on the cost of heating such a large building. Many new windows help save on energy used to light the building along with automatic lights that turn off after several minutes without movement. The new high school shows how easy it is to save money and help the environment. Renewable energy is good for all aspects of the U.S, providing jobs, economical growth, environmental cleanliness, and new research for improving energy efficiency. Therefore the United States should use renewable energy to benefit the economy and environment.

People are inflicting major damage to the Earth's environment, and if we don't do anything to stop the destruction soon, the results could be devastating. Most people know about global warming and think it may be a serious problem in the future. What most people don't understand is that global warming is happening now, and we are already feeling some of its destructive power. Because of the dangerous effects of global warming, alternative energy sources need to be aggressively pursued. Finding and utilizing alternative energy sources may be the only way to combat the increase of global warming.

We need electricity to do almost everything in our modern lives something you will be well aware of if your house has ever lost power unexpectedly. You can’t watch TV or YouTube, play your PlayStation or Xbox and your parents certainly can’t cook dinner. But as you all probably know most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels which is horrible for the environment and if we don’t find a replacement for them it’ll be your generation who has to deal with the consequences.

Energy is a crucial necessity and with the ever increasing need for it and the high and fluctuating prices of oil, researchers are constantly coming up with newer and more sophisticated alternative sources of energy. However, energy comes at a cost, as it is either expensive or it possesses high health risks. This essay presents the concept of energy by discussing the two major types of energy, the various forms it could take, including renewable sources of energy, energy conservation and above all it talks about the safest and cleanest alternatives.
