Global Warming and Alternative Energy
People are inflicting major damage to the Earth's environment, and if we don't do anything to stop the destruction soon, the results could be devastating. Most people know about global warming and think it may be a serious problem in the future. What most people don't understand is that global warming is happening now, and we are already feeling some of its destructive power. Because of the dangerous effects of global warming, alternative energy sources need to be aggressively pursued. Finding and utilizing alternative energy sources may be the only way to combat the increase of global warming. It is a clean, practical alternative that would satisfy the world economy's growing energy demand." Today there are 212 nuclear power plants in the world and the number is expected to rise to 250 in the next five years. Nuclear power already provides 75% of power in France and 20% here in the United States (McQuinn). Like nuclear energy, wind energy is also becoming more popular and efficient. Large wind turbines powered completely by wind gusts generate up to 233 megawatts of power every minute (Roberts 12). Homeowners and farmers can now own their own wind turbines and have their unused energy purchased by energy companies. Wind energy is very popular in Germany especially where at least 33% of the countries energy comes completely from wind turbines (Roberts 13). Solar power is nothing completely new; it has been used for years to power small devices from calculators to watches, but what is new is its improved efficiency. Solar panels can be used to collect energy from the sun and now are being used on a much larger scale. Homeowners and business can use energy generated from the panels to power their homes and offices and have it purchased by energy suppliers. Solar power is proving to be an economical energy source available to the public that is consumer friendly.
The newest and most exciting energy
Fossil fuels and other power generates are slowly changing the world. Alternative power sources are slowly becoming more popular in everyday life while the technology progresses. Using these power sources that don’t pollute the atmosphere could be the change in the world that completely changes the way the world uses energy. Engineers and technicians have been producing these alternative ways for years and years. A few, but not limited to consist of: Solar panels, Wind turbines, Wave tech and much more.
Solar energy and its use isn’t new to the world. It has been used by various societies beginning from 7thCentury B.C, when the sun’s heat was concentrated by glass and mirrors to light fires. Today, we have everything from solar-powered buildings to solar-powered vehicles. By and large solar technology has some environmental, economic, psychological and ethical implications for our society. Actions taken by companies and individuals to increase the use of solar technology will create good local jobs, improve our environment and reduce our dependence on foreign oil while doing what’s ethical and moral for our society.
Humans have been burning fossil fuels even before the Industrial Revolution, and most scientists acknowledge that our planet has warmed ten times faster than ever before. Throughout previous history, we have established that the Earth’s average rate of change has been about one degree per thousand years. However, in the previous 100 years, the Earth has warmed about one degree. This alarming fact has frightened scientists, as the change has occurred ten times faster than usual. We need to find alternative energy resources in order to prevent this immense change from occurring.
Nowadays, energy is pivotal to almost every major challenge and opportunity the world confronts. Be it for jobs, security, climate change, food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is essential. Sustainable energy is needed for strengthening economies, protecting ecosystems and achieving equity. In accordance with The UN Conference on Environment and Development, energy consumption is expected to increase dramatically over the next 50 years as the world’s population grows and developing countries become more industrialized. With environmental requirements for lower CO2 emission sources and the need to invest in a sustainable energy mix, new energy sources must be developed. At the same time, climate change is known to be one of the most
The role of energy in human life dates back to as far as the ages of civilization where ancient people needed fire not only for comfort but also for cooking (Michaelides 1). In the modern digital world, everyone has his or her uses of energy with other similar uses all of which affects the life of everyone. Notably, there is the production and use of energy in varying forms like in automobiles, airplanes, and manufacturing plants. Conversely, with the global trend in need for a sustainable earth, the shift from environmentally unhealthy energy sources has led to the public call for alternative energy sources (IEA 9). The transition to alternative energy sources aims at conserving the natural resources as well as protecting the environment. The energy sources include fossil fuels, the wind, geothermal, hydropower, solar and nuclear power applied in various uses modern life operations locally and internationally (Brkić 36 and Wadud et al. 18). However, although there is a globalized rise in the use of fossil fuels, the environmental and climatic implications calls for the shift to alternative energy sources. Through the analysis of alternative and fossil fuels, the essay provides an elaborate explanation useful in the maintenance of a sustainable world.
For years man has relied on energy in order to be successful in life. The industrial revolution relied on coal for the new inventions brought into the world. Life as has never been the same since then. However since that time, there has been little done to improve on energy efficiency and humans still primarily rely on fossil fuels for energy. For over a hundred years the Earth has become more polluted and dirtier than ever before. Now, with new, innovative technology there is an opportunity to change that and to rely on renewable, cleaner sources of energy. The main source of energy for the world should be alternative energy instead of energy from fossil fuels.
Technologies such as solar power, wind, bioenergy and more can change the ways that energy is being produced and prevent the dangers of global warming.
The earth is in trouble. Pollution levels are at an all-time high, and temperatures are increasing at a rapid rate. Alternative energy will be the saving grace for planet earth, and the only viable solution to a cleaner, brighter future. Alternative energy is the only viable option for the future due to its independence from fossil fuels, reduced pollution and reduced energy costs.
realize that global warming is a direct result of the depletion of ozone in the
With the availability of coal, oil and natural gas more limited every day, many people are turning to the oldest and most abundant source of power on Earth -- the sun. Solar energy uses the natural energy-making process of photosynthesis for plants and offers a reliable alternative energy source for homeowners and businesses seeking a cost-effective solution to rising energy bills.
Solar energy is the most plentiful and purist renewable energy source available. Because it is completely natural, it is considered to be a clean energy source. It does not disrupt the environment or threaten the Eco-systems the way oil and some other energy sources tend to. Nor does it cause greenhouse gases, air or water pollution. Solar energy is an immensely important aspect of life and has been since the beginning of time. Increasingly, we are learning how to harness this important resource and use it to replace traditional energy sources. Modern technology can utilize this energy in a variety of ways, such as; generating electricity, providing light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, industrial, or commercial use. One day solar energy may well become our primary form of energy. This would lead to a clean environment, less money spent on utilities, and a healthier world. It is highly important because it has the potential to allow technology and nature to co-exist peacefully.
Global warming is one of the most critical issues faced by both humans and animals. The increase of earth’s temperature leads to climate change, eventually, making life much harder for people in developing countries and causing animals to become extinct. For decades this problem has been slowly growing day-by-day. In recent years, dependency on fossil fuels has increased immensely, to the point where it fuels daily activities. However, it is important to take into consideration that while fossil fuels provide tremendous amounts of energy, there are several adverse effects and disadvantages to using it as a source of fuel. As an alternative to fossil fuels, renewable sources such as nuclear, hydrogen, or solar energy and biofuels can be used to meet energy demands. Fossil fuels are considered to be unsustainable, environmentally destructive, inefficient, and the primary contributor of global warming. It is estimated that about eighty eight percent of global energy is produced by burning fossil fuels1. Additionally, only twelve percent of global energy is produced by alternative energy sources1. It is time for individuals to think whether alternative energy resources can efficiently replace fossil fuels.
Alternative energy has been an option as an energy source for a few years now. Unfortunately, there were a significant amount of obstacles that it has had to overcome, or that it is still having to overcome. The obstacles range from the lack of efficiency of alternative energy, fossil fuels being more efficient than alternative energy, and the subpar technological advancements. There are situations where alternative energy is useful and should be considered. Although alternative energy has not always been a reliable energy source, today it is more efficient than in the past, and is a clean alternative to fossil fuels.
Since the industrial age, fossil fuels have been used as a source of energy and power. The fossil fuels are used and converted into coal, oils, and gasses. The products of fossil fuels are mostly Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate change, and O-zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea-levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov). Considering these issues, alternative energy sources are something that can be used to help combat harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity’s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.).
Global warming, the rise of average global temperatures year, after year. A serious issue yet many people fail to pay much attention to it, or even realize how much of a problem it is. Some people think it’s a hoax from lack of proof, but some scientist would argue otherwise. Human activity such as burning fossil fuels is the main contributor to global warming, as it releases large amounts of C02 into the atmosphere (May). With deforestation happening every day less, and less trees are available to absorb the C02 released into the air. The average temperatures within the US have been rising. This creates droughts, evaporation of lakes, major storms, and devastating floods (May). To combat global warming it is important to support the development of clean renewable energy, such as solar power. Not only is solar a free source of energy, it is clean in that it doesn’t emit C02, and it creates thousands of well-paying jobs. Global warming is caused by human activity, and has large devastating effects on our environment, to sustain a growing human population we must seek alternative energy such as solar power.
