In this essay, I will be discussing terrorism and how we are defending it. Terrorism is worldwide and tends to reach everyone in some form. I will touch on how much money is being spent on defense and different security systems we have in place currently. The United States is spending too much money to fight off terrorism when the threat of it happening is very low. The attention we give terrorism is another issue I will touch on. The main reasons why terrorism starts and how we can avoid it will be mentioned as well. Finally, I will discuss some groups within the government that are actively fighting and trying to bring terrorism to an end. First of all, we need to understand what terrorism is; terrorism is a threat or use of violence toward civilian targets to create fear with political motives to get attention for their cause. The victims of terrorist attacks have little value to the attackers. The victims represent a larger human audience and the terrorists seek that larger audience’s reaction to the attack (Crenshaw, 1981, pg. 379). Attention is the main goal of any terrorist attack. Sadly, as a democratic government we are likely to have more terrorism attacks. Unlike authoritarian governments, we can’t crack down and stop the spread of the issue (Warby). Social media is another factor that fuels the fire of terrorism. The moment anything happens, it is on social media and reaching everyone around the entire world within hours. The terrorists are getting exactly what
In today’s society domestic terrorism is one of the biggest threats to the United States. Some of these recent terrorist attacks include. Domestic Terrorism is when U.S. citizens carry out terrorist acts against other U.S. residents or groups. Many people think that the biggest threat of terrorism to the U.S. is from a foreign country, when in fact, the bigger threat is closer to home. Domestic terrorism is becoming a bigger threat to the U.S. than international terrorism and we need to find a way to prevent these attacks.
Fighting fire with fire, or in this case, fighting terrorism with terrorism. This, simply put, is what many believe to be the solution to terrorism - a War on Terror. NATO is well-known for being one of the largest and strongest organizations or military alliances in which participating states agree to mutual defense in any event of an external attack. Since the attack of 9/11, NATO, with the lead of the U.S., has been determined to eradicate each and every single terrorist group or any form of terrorism. Over the years, these motivations have sparked countless controversial issues as ethics of this war became increasingly questionable. Although many may support this concept of a "War on Terror", it is simply, without question, economically damaging, misleading, and a hopeless attempt to solve the issue of terrorism.
“Terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond the immediate victim”. A lot of the time when someone commits an act of terrorism, it is because they are demonstrating faith and loyalty to their religious views and beliefs, political, or ideological and the persecutors aim to intimidate governments and put fear into the eyes of societies. In Australia this year, there are about 7 known terrorist groups spread around the country. These seven groups in Australia at the moment includes: "Ahmed Y" group, Benbrika group in Melbourne, Al-Shabaab, Syrian syndicate, Cheikho group in Sydney, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Mantiqi (Jemaah Islamiah). All around the world, terrorism is growing quickly and it is damaging countries, communities and families. Something needs to be done about the issue and some people are already acting on it today.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many terrorist attacks in the United States? Why did the United States spends so much money on the military? This all happens due to a reason that the United States keep interfering into others countries’ problems, but most of the time nothing come out of it. Sometimes, the United States even make the problem become even worse. Just like the war in Iraq. The decisions made by the Presidents cause the problem getting worse day by day. Helping people out is a good thing, however, we should think about if that person need help or not. Which out the intervene of the United States, Iraq will not be in a situation like today. The United States will be less in debt and more money to fund other programs. There are more negative effects than positive effects when the United States meddles into others countries’ problems, so the United States should just ignore and stop worrying about those countries.
In America we have a lot of domestic terrorism. Domestic terrorism didn’t become a problem until the 9/11 terror attacks on September 11 2001 in New York City when planes were hijacked hit the buildings and killed over 3,000 people. Since then there have been over 10 major terror attacks in the United States. Five of which have been been the most effective to the United States the five are Pulse nightclub shooting, the two church shootings, Las Vegas massacre, San Bernardino California shooting. Domestic terrorism started in New York when a bomb exploded on Wall Street in the financial district in the 1950s and 1960s. The pros to domestic terrorism is that it makes our country stronger and knows what to
The war on terrorism is vast and intense. Most of the media and public are focused on the international threats and groups plaguing the globe, however there is a true and real concern for the terrorism in our backyard and the government has taken notice. How exactly can a government so fragmented and already stretched so thin take on another hardship with such high stakes? By restructuring the system with a more narrowly tasked counsel, the Domestic Terrorism Counsel (Carlin, 2015), to focus all involved, bridging the gaps between vertical intergovernmental relations, from federal to local levels, and the horizontal cross-sector collaboration of multiple organizations, like the FBI, the Attorney General’s Office, and the SPLC. (Carlin, 2015)
Terrorism has had a negative effect on the world. In the United States the role of terrorism is steadily a growing, creating new issues and situations which the United States government must battle. The department of Home land security has an active and significant role on ensuring the security and safety of the United States of America. Acts of terrorism differs in every region, what one might consider terrorism the other might not. Terrorism comes in several forms such as domestic, international, bioterrorism and cyber terrorism. Every law enforcement agencies has a different approach to terrorism. Strategies for battling terrorism in multicultural communities are different compared to communities inhabited by a less diversified group.
Terrorism has been creating havoc across the globe for the entirety of recorded history. Today, with the invention of the Internet and different computer programs, these radical groups that enact these deadly attacks are able to change the way they operate through the use of technological advances to further their onslaught on humanity. The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” (International vs. Domestic Terrorism). Every person on the planet can be affected by terrorism, regardless of religion, gender, or race. Throughout history radical groups who become obsessed with their own opinions and beliefs try to force others to believe in their views through displays of violence and terror. Contrary to modern beliefs that terrorists are only radical Islam groups like Al Qaeda and Isis, but in reality almost every group of people from Christians to even environmentalists have enacted radical terrorist attacks. Terrorism, like technology, is not exclusive to industrialized nations or countries but is available to anyone with the right resources. These technologies are used throughout the world to connect average people to others and is almost always used for good. Terrorist organizations take advantage of new found communications
Overall, our society has been impacted greatly since the attacks of September 11, 2001. The growth of terrorism and its groups continues to increase globally. Furthermore, attacks are becoming more sporadic and smaller, making them more difficult to prevent. The United States government continually responds to terrorism which has affected many aspects of society. For example, new requirements are affecting state law enforcement as they have new responsibilities regarding terrorism-related investigations. Additionally, political participation continues to increase, while reenlistment in the military decreases. There is a sense of paranoia in education systems, and Americans persistently discriminate against Muslims. Ultimately, terrorism is
President Reagan quoted from French political thinker Alexis de Tocqueville that “America is great because America is good. And if America ever stops being good, America will stop being great.” Mr. Tocqueville may never have said this but whoever said this is absolutely right. Now that this great nation is under the threat of terrorism we need to show the world that United States is still a great.
“It's not frightening to me," he told Williams. "If I have one bullet left, I'll take my own life before that happens. I'm not gonna get put on YouTube by ISIS, and let them put me on my knees and cut my head off for publicity."(Jeremy).We as Americans have seen innumerable things that are disturbing and incomprehensible but what we are seeing coming from ISIS is far from cruel. They have taken a woman hostage made them wives and even killed children who denied to convert to Muslim, they have assassinated husbands, brothers and fathers all in front of their families with no remorse. ISIS posted these videos so Americans could fear for their lives or join ISIS in their attacks. Although Americans are helping to fight against ISIS we also have
The New York Times says that the fear of terrorism in the United States is at levels that have not been seen since the infamous September 11, 2001. This poll comes after the attacks in Jakarta, Paris, and San Bernardino. Terrorism has ties all the way back to the 11th century with Al-Hashshashin. A terrorist organization must fall into two categories in order to be considered a transnational terrorist group: “involves groups or individuals whose terrorist activities cross international borders and targeted countries that are not represented in the make-up of the group” (Casserleigh, PP 4). With growing technology, working in favor of the terrorists, transnational terrorism has been able to grow into what is it today. Terrorism has been defined
Terrorism has been around since the time of the romans and the greeks. It is a tactic used to inspire fear into others and set an example to others what the perpetrators are capable of. When the use of it was first put to action it was not a very big deal. Now in present day, technology has driven us further along with unrest sprouting more ways for it to be used in many different forms. Domestic terrorism and abroad are both equally dangerous and terrifying.
As the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria continues its jihadist rampage across the Middle East, a possible genocide is unfolding that few in the West seem to notice. With all eyes on the recent Israeli offensive in Gaza, ISIS has continued its own offensive in Iraq virtually unchallenged, leaving thousands of Christians and Shia Muslims dead in its wake. Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq and a historic site for Middle Eastern Christians, fell to ISIS in June, forcing thousands in the area to evacuate for fear of their lives.
Terrorism, which has been around for as long as people can remember, has been on the rise for the past ten years. Terrorists usually use murdering, kidnapping, hi-jacking and bombings to achieve their political purpose. For instance, according to Wikipedia.com (2006), in 1985 816 deaths, then in 2003, more than 1,000 people died by terorist acts around the world. In recent years, terrorism seems to be at a new height and attacks are much more violent than in the past. Unfortunately, in spite of many anti-terror campaigns, projects and organizations are being created for prevention (to prevent) terrorism, the number of terrorists only is increasing. These days terrorism is all over the world.
