Sexual misconduct, as a sub type of sexual violence, refers to the wide range of sexual act. As a general definition, according to World Health Organization (WHO) (2012) sexual violence is defined as: “any sexual act, attempt to obtain a sexual act, unwanted sexual comments or advances, or acts to traffic, or otherwise directed, against a person’s sexuality using coercion, by any person regardless of their relationship to the victim, in any setting, including but not limited to home and work.” On the other hand, this is quite broad definition and more detailed description is needed especially for the school, or institutional policies. For example, according to Yale University policies (2014) the sexual misconduct definition is: “a range of behaviors including sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, stalking, voyeurism, and any other conduct of a sexual nature that is nonconsensual, or has the purpose or effect of threatening, intimidating, or coercing a person.”
A psychologist could automatically become a member of the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology (SSPP), by having the endorsements of two members, the payment of dues, and a membership in the American Psychological Association (APA). Nonmembers, with endorsements and payments of dues had to be voted in by the membership (Thomas, 2011); automatic membership for APA members was eliminated in 1940. The first African American to earn a PhD in psychology was Francis Cecil Sumner, he qualified for an SSPP membership in 1939, but his membership was delayed and eliminated. Sumner was known for his racial bias and supporting educational justice. In his article “Philosophy of Negro Education” Sumner states a series of stages in human civilization
Cynthia Belar, the current interim chief executive officer. Dr. Belar revealed her story of how she became a part of the APA, after working in several different setting related to clinical psychology and mental health problems. While her career was truly a spectacular one, she gave the intern a valuable advice. She stated that even when she was young, she was not completely certain about which path to take, or what she would do in the future. Nevertheless, she found herself along the way and was able to contribute to the best of her ability to psychology. Thus, she believes that is it perfectly acceptable for students to be confused and uncertain of their futures; through their experience, they will figure out their strength and weaknesses, as well as their choice of career. Indeed, sometime college or even graduate students can be nervous and afraid when they experience uncertainty towards their future. Life should be viewed as a journey, where one will learn about themselves and others, to decide what they want to do, or who they want to be. It is extremely accurate for those who study psychology, as it is a major that enable people to study about human as a whole. On the other hand, Dr. Belar encourage the students to propose ideas and observations about psychology and the APA. A notable suggestion revolved around how psychology can be more accessible to the population. The author pointed out the fact that psychology can be apply to any issues and problem presented that is related to human, and integrated to other disciplines. Most people, and sometime even psychology major student, usually do not realize that other than the traditional practice, psychology can be incorporate into fields such as computer science, business, sport, etc. Additionally, any grave issues can be analyzed through a psychology perspective, learning about how the human brain works and how behaviors, thoughts, and

The field of psychology is steadily expanding due to the progression in technology, which is being driven by the advancement of civilization. More and more time is spent on the internet, which has gradually altered the method in which primary communication takes place. Previously face-to-face interaction was touted as the primary method of interfacing with one another, now communication via the internet is almost mandatory to establish and maintain healthy relationships (Greenfield and Yan, 2006). This is especially true amongst children, adolescents and teenagers. The need for psychologists have never been greater in order to assess how individuals are able to acclimate to this societal change. Traditionally, there are two methods in which children, adolescents and teenagers communicate via the internet, through social media and video games. Each primary method presents their own unique social challenge. In response to the issues in of teenagers over use of the internet, psychologists are providing assistance for internet addictions at a greater rate. The first method utilized by mental health professionals is traditionally counseling and if those efforts fail, then the potential exists for adolescents to be placed on medications.

This research article was taken from the Association for Psychological Science (APS) Journal. This specific issue had a total of ten articles, and while they are covering different topics and studies, some of them do focus on similar ideas. Psychology is all about the study of the mind, and how it has different parts intended for unique functions. It seems like a good portion of the articles for this specific journal deal with emotions and how the body interprets them. One article deals with the stress of different generations, while another deals with an individual’s willpower against sugar. There is an article about self-esteem and how that varies during a lifetime, as well as an article on cooperation. The article that will be specifically discussed in this research paper also has to deal with how the body interprets things when it comes to a stressful situation, such as a crime. It looks at how reliable eyewitness testimony is after traumatic events, specifically in regards to lineups.
