At first glance, this painting look worn down because the colors seem dull. The painting has thirteen men seated around a wooden table, with a white checkered tablecloth, eating a meal. There is a woman kneeling on the floor, made up of square tiles, reaching for a fancy ceramic piece. Most of the men have facial hair a serious look on their face and also have many wrinkles. The room, that the men are all seated in, is just big enough for each one of them to be seated around the table. You can see the two men on each shorter side of the table are sitting up against black brick walls. The walls are just a little taller than the men seated at the table. Above the wall are six alternating red and grey columns. You can only see the base and …show more content…
He has this confused and slightly angry look but his hands are resting gently on the table. Thaddeus looks older with grey hair and many wrinkles on his forehead. His right hand is at an odd place right by his chest, but his left is placed on the edge of the table. He is looking and pointing with his right hand towards Jesus. Philip has an intrigued look towards Thaddeus. He is wearing a green robe with a white and blue cloak. He looks younger than most of the men because he doesn’t have as much bags underneath his eyes nor does he have many wrinkles. His right hand is pointed towards Jesus like Thaddeus, but his left hand is making a circular shape similar to what Jesus is holding.
James Minor, sitting in a turquoise robe, is looking at Jesus in a calm manor. Both of his wrists are resting on the edge of the table and his left hand is holding what looks like a small plate. Peter is wearing a yellow robe and blue cloak. He is looking at Jesus with a rather concerned look. He is partially bald on the top of his head and has many wrinkles. His hands are making the same gesture as when someone asks “why.” John, the youngest looking of them all, is wearing a red robe. He is seated next to Jesus but is lying, with his hands crossed, underneath Jesus’ right arm. Jesus is looking straight ahead with a serious but calm look. He has the largest halo and is also carrying a bright, white, circular object in
What first catches the viewer 's eyes are the vivid colors used in the painting. Ultimately what jumps out the most is the man on the right 's red robe. The artist intended this for a reason, discussed later. The room where the men are standing is front lit. Also the atmosphere is
This painting is a portrait of an old woman who is sitting on a chair while facing to the left. She is wearing a yellow flower dress with a beige jacket while sitting in an empty room. Her beauty is illustrated by her curly, gray hair and also her wrinkled face, neck, and hands. These details is what makes her look real and pure. I like how detailed it is because it reminds me of my grandmothers.
Color values are strong in this painting. It goes back to what I said about color, but I believe the soft hue of the blue walls against the strong hue of the bed frame and floor provides enough contrast to pull you into the painting. I also like the strong hue of the table. It connects the visual of looking at the chairs and the bed. When you look at the table, your eye cannot help but look at the other furniture.
This art piece portrays a darker colored woman in the middle with twelve men sitting at the table, six men on each side. She is not wearing any sort of garments except for a simple white cloth around her spread out arms. All men are divided into three-men group based upon similar actions. The man immediate right to the woman is the only man with paler skin color. On the table, there are feast of fruits, vegetables, bread, and drinks.
The painting depicts a young woman in a pink dress sitting down. The background is very dark but three things can be made out by the viewer. Starting with the ground plane of the painting, an orange carpet can be seen covering the entire floor. It is patterned and contains yellows, greens and blues. The cool toned colours are darker in hue than the warm toned. Secondly, there appears to be a cabinet or a desk lining the wall behind her. The wood of the cabinetry is carved with detailed designs and is made of a dark stained wood. Despite the dark background a single red rose can be seen on top of the cabinetry. The rose looks freshly picked and shows no signs of withering in its petals. It is painted in a muted red colour that allows it to stand out on

The painting is organized simply. The background of the painting is painted in an Impressionist style. The blurring of edges, however, starkly
There is also a mirror placed on the table allowing the viewers to link with space beyond the frame. Also in the far back right of the painting you can see a young man talking to an elderly. The artist created an very old or old-fashioned look by using opposing colors, red and green. “The second half of the fifteenth century in northern Europe saw an expansion of genre
The artwork is a complex mixture if colors, shapes, and tints. In the painting, there are eight figures. Seven that is to the center and left of the painting and one on the right. The seven persons on the left are all either touching each other or interlocked with someone. Of that seven, six are men and one is a female. There is a man in
By adding the stiff men and the women curved and in slouched poses makes the painting realistic and it speaks to me even
The Mouth House. This is a horrifying figure in the paint being from the fact that in its mouth, humans are coming from it. To me, it looks like the men coming out from its mouth are escaping from the horrifying life they live in.
When I see the painting the shape is symmetric in the sense that there are the same amount of people on both sides of Jesus. The genre of this painting is Christian art. There are also four panels on both sides of the walls. In my opinion, the target audience that this painting was intended for are those who are believers of Christ. I feel this way because I think that this painting portrays the event that is talked about in the bible in the scripture Matthew 26, verse 21 where Jesus says “…"Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.". He then continues in verse 23 saying, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me”. In the painting, you can clearly see the man two seats away from his right reaching for the bowl at the same time as Christ. This event lead to the Holy Eucharist, also known as communion or the Lord’s Supper where Christ takes the bread which was to symbolize his body and wine which was to symbolize his
Though this painting is centuries old people are still able to identify with it and enjoy it fully. This painting is truly timeless.
When I first looked at this painting, before even looking at the title or reading the description, I made up a story. The woman on the right of the table was pleading with a ruler. Either asking him not to send her husband or son off to war or withdraw him from the front lines. The other people are shocked by her request. Taken back by the thought of this woman would request such a thing. The ruler doesn’t care enough for the lives of the men below him. They are just pawns in a war he is in with neighboring countries. He is the ruler, and he will do whatever he chooses and to humor himself, he will let the dice determine the fate of the woman’s loved one. Once I read the description of the painting, I found that I was off but not entirely.
The portrait is displayed horizontally with a gold trimmed frame. The subject is a female that looks to be in her early 20’s sitting upright on a large brown chair. If the viewer travels up the painting the first indication of the woman’s class is her satin, blue dress. The saturated blue shines and falls in the light like water. Paired with the dress are her exceptionally detailed endings to her sleeves. The lace is even painted as though it is translucent, allowing a little of the blue dress to show through the sleeve. Flowers throughout history have symbolized innocence of a woman and her virginity. The repeating theme of flowers, in the sleeve cuffs and ribbon) in the woman’s attired suggests her purity or innocent nature. Another very details section of the painting includes the corset/torso details. The sewing suggests texture in the torso with small beading in between. Towards the top of the chest in the center, the female seems to bear an extravagant, ribbon piece with a tear drop bead in the center. The light pink
