The Battle of Saratoga was a main turning point in the war because it was a major victory. Two battles made up Saratoga, one on September 19 and one on October 7. It was the key battle that everyone had seen the colonists win. The Battle of Saratoga caused others to start to recognize the Americans, which was tremendously significant for them. This victory is what convinced France to enter the war and help the Americans. The French noticed the Americans during the battle because it was the first battle that the British surrendered in. Without this support from France, the Americans may not have been able to win. The French made the Americans much stronger, not only as a military, but they also monetarily. They sent Americans money, a navy, and supplies, which all contributed to being more prepared to fight a better fight. Being well prepared also encourages a better attitude among individuals, which in turn causes a higher morale for the soldiers. In fact, for an event to be considered a revolution that event must bring about significant political, social, ideological, religious or even technological change. Throughout history there have been some very noteworthy revolutions such as the Agricultural Revolution, the American Revolution, and the French Revolution. Of all the revolutions in history, it is perhaps the French Revolution that remains the most romanticized in the minds of the people. The French Revolution was, at its core, a revolution of the masses, for the masses. It was a long, violent affair, lasting from 1787 to 1799. Like most periods of historical importance, the French Revolution was not caused by a single, specific event in history. It was rather the result of the accumulation of many events spread all through the 18th century. Some of the most important causes of the French Revolution were the economic crisis, the rising tensions between the social classes, the shortcoming of the rule of Louis XVI, and the Age of Enlightenment.

While ideas and perspectives may have differed in 17-1800s, it was about finding peace and prosperity as it did not exist in the colonies. While whites always had the upper hand, during the revolution specific groups of people took over with rebellions and resistances. On the other hand, there were specific reasons to why people resisted and revolted against the leaders in charge. European nations were greeds wanting money and control, their mistreatment were the reasons for the revolution. Both the Venezuelan and American revolution had the catastrophic number. Even though, The American and Venezuelan revolution took place in different time period, there were similar reason for resistance/rebellions in colonies to become an Independent Nation and carry out equality and Freedom.

On September 19th, General John Burgoyne achieved a small, costly victory over the Americans. The Battle of Saratoga was the main turning point in the American Revolution because it caused the British to abandon their plans to take Philadelphia, boosted the morale of the Americans, and brought France on as an ally. The British thought that if they could separate New England from the Southern colonies it would put an end to the Revolution. This plan ended as an opportunity for the Patriots to turn the tide in their direction as this caused France to offer full military support.

By this time, American General Gates was reinforced with his army of about 12,000 men versus around 4,000 British and Germans. France had been secretly supplying weapons and ammunition to the American soldiers. They kept it a secret because the French didn’t want a show or create an open alliance, but soon the French realized that the Patriots had an opportunity to win the war. They were now willing to form an open alliance with the Americans against the British. The alliance with French was critical and essential for winning the war. Without the French, the Patriots would have lost. Some benefits of the alliance were that the French provided supplies and ammunitions to the Americans so that they could continue fighting. French also volunteered their soldiers and generals. America was now ready for war with the British. Since Freeman's Farm, the Patriots had increased in strength. Gates’ army now had

Vergennes was formidable that the catastrophe would be settled down and Britain would attack the French, which they wouldn't be ready for. America would have to declare their independence from Britain and demonstrate that they, the patriots, can defend themselves from the redcoats. For my book review, I have read and evaluated Sylvia Neely’s history book entitled A Concise History of the French Revolution published in 2007 by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. Neely’s purpose is to gives an overview of the French revolution with the most important events, the most prominent people and the essential terms. We can see that the author proved her thesis by explaining the background causes of the revolution such as the ancient regime with Louis XVI. Also she described all important events in chronological orders which made it easier for the reader to understand. Neely’s book is at the same time an history book, but also an kind of encyclopedia because she included all essentials terms which were use during that time period, such as “dérogeance”, which means the loss of nobility.
