Role of religion
Religion provides people mental peace and acceptance among society. In the book things fall apart written by Chinua Achebe the Igbo Religion brings people together physically to an event or ceremony. Many religions come together to worship different gods which give people a common interest. Religion brings people together mentally by providing a sense of belonging. Everyone is different especially among the Igbo people who have people of different titles but by having religion it provides them something in common. Belonging is a human need we want to feel accepted and wanted among a community. Last religion brings people together because it stops conflict among many people. By preventing conflict it keeps communities united together. Overall religion brings people together as a community.

In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, it is about the colonization of the Europeans through the views of an African American. In the novel, there was a cultural collision between the Ibo people and the white people that came to their land which is now modern day Nigeria and tried to change the culture of the Ibo people by force. Through the views of the novel’s main character Okonkwo, Chinua Achebe describes the cultural collision between the Ibo and Europeans from an African American’s view instead of a white man’s view. Okonkwo was caring, he was considered this because although he is stubborn, violent and doesn't show his true feelings he cares deeply about his family and his children. Okonkwo cared about his family because when one of his wives wasn’t in her hut making food, he became angry and violent towards her because he didn’t want his children to be hungry like how he was when growing up and being raised by his own father Unoka.
Post colonialism deals with cultural identity in colonized societies and the ways in which writers articulate that identity. Things Fall Apart is a good novel that serves as a reminder of what Nigeria once was. It shows how a society can deal with change, how change affects the individuals of that society, and how delicate a change can be; so much so that the people themselves are surprised at the change.
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a story about personal beliefs and customs, and also a story about conflict. There is struggle between family, culture, and the religion of the Ibo, which is all brought on by a difference in personal beliefs and customs of the Igbo and the British. There are also strong opinions of the main character, Okonkwo. We are then introduced to the views of his village, Umuofia. We see how things fall apart when these beliefs and customs are confronted by those of the white missionaries.

An in-depth look into pre-colonial African culture helps the reader discover and understand an unbiased point of view of a world one may not understand. In doing so, Achebe uses imagery as well as strong narration to describe the cultural norms and activities that the Nigerian tribe undergoes in everyday life. Through this he offers a nonbiased point of view, and communicates and accurate picture of pre-colonial African culture to a western reader.

Umuofia is a village in Africa, and the inhabitants there are usually united. However, when the Christians arrive and permeate the village, the clan changes but also falls apart. The novel in which this story takes place is called Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. The story is about a well-respected man named Okonkwo who has three wives and many children, the oldest being Nwoye. Okonkwo is banished for seven years from Umuofia, and during those seven years, Umuofia is changed fundamentally by the Christian faith. Many people are converted, but the whole clan is in conflict. This novel demonstrates that Christianity destroys but also guides the Ibo culture in Umuofia.
I have come to know of religions other than my own, and each has different ways of worship. By taking the time to learn the different religions of the world has helped me with understanding what others believe. In learning of others beliefs will help me in recognizing the way they dress, act and respond.
