In the novel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, survival is a real thing in the story. Suzanne Collins presents a story of life about how people needs to bet their life so they can save their family and save their own life in a death game. It can be seen in the novel how Katniss is trying to survive in the Qurter Quell when she reaped back for the second time to fight in the arena. She has to face the people are skilled and smart to kill, through all the traps, trials and other challanges of the game that could be more danger for her life. After the first Hunger Games she had through before, makes her need to be stronger and be more careful in facing the enemies or other tributes and choosing the ally. Her skill in using an arrow is important
In the fictional novel The Hunger Games, selected teenagers are forced to fight for their lives in an arena when an entire nation watches on. Leaders from the Capitol who are in power use this tactic to dehumanized the people from the other districts. The concept of dehumanization has applied to various religions, races, and nationalities throughout history. From slavery to the Holocaust to genocides around the world, dehumanization has been used to continue on ways of living and justify certain acts. Pieces of literature attesting to this treatment are great sources of proof that dehumanization has occurred throughout history. In The Hunger Games, the leaders from the Capitol showed dehumanization on a grand scale by assigning very little value to human life to the citizens of Panem. The people in power take advantage of the victim this concept continues to be document in literature and the media.
Katniss a sixteen-year-old girl who takes her younger sisters place in an arena where twenty-four tributes will battle each other until there is one left standing, Susanne Collins wrote a book about this called The Hunger Games. Katniss is great with a bow and arrow during training sessions and the Games this skill was a way of protecting, and killing. During this time in the book the bow and arrow became a great way to kill animals for food, or money to trade in at the hob, the hob a place located in District Twelve where they trade food, cloth, and yarn. Everyone has weakness however not everyone is willing to share what they are. Where as Katniss’s weakness are easily shown, from not willing to show emotions, letting herself get into the
An unknown person once said, “When we read books, we don’t fall in love with the characters appearances. We fall in love with their thoughts, their words, and their actions. We fall in love with their souls.” In the dystopian novel, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, this is exactly what happens, Katniss moves the readers by having such characteristic and skills to be able to survive. Katniss’s characteristics, of being caring, having a determined personality, and her intelligence in survival skills, all help support the theme of Katniss being able to survive.
During the 74th hunger games, she befriends a young tribute named Rue, who reminds her of Prim. Katniss' shows the humanity that the capitol does not and tries her best to help Rue last in the hunger games as much as she can. The purpose of the games is to kill everyone to become the victor and experience a life of fame and luxury. Many times she represses deadly actions towards other tributes and allows them chances to escape from her excellent hunting skills through the usage of a bow and arrows. She unable to intentionally hurt anyone unless she has no choice.
The Hunger Games Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins has very deep characterization. Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist, was the winner of the previous Hunger Games. She is picked for the Quarter Quell, which picks winners of past Hunger Games to fight each other again in a new arena. Her and Peeta are chosen again. Katniss is a character who cares about others but will do whatever it takes to make sure the ones she cares about are safe. This is shown on page 189 when she says "But I have a mission. No, it's more than a mission. It's my dying wish. Keep Peeta alive." In this quote, Katniss shows how much she cares about Peeta by putting the safety of his front of her own. Peeta is tough selfless person who cares about Katniss and her well being.
In the surreal dystopian novel, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins the main theme that is focused on the most is survival of the fittest. Katniss displays this theme with her two characteristics and one of many skills. The first one being an athletic mindset, the second being intelligence, and her skill being archery. Katniss is very athletic. Near the end of the story Katniss was able to escape genetically modified canines with an extraordinarily amount of speed.
Famous naturalist, Charles Darwin once said: “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.” In The Hunger Games, there are 24 kids that must fight to the death in a big area. In Suzanne Collins novel, The Hunger Games, the overarching theme is that people will do whatever it takes to survive demonstrated by the characters of Katniss, Foxface, and Peeta.
In both the Hunger Games and The Lord of the Flies hunting was a major strategy in order to survive. At the beginning of the games, all the tributes were aligned on the platform ready to entertain all of the districts and the capital. Once Katniss, the main character, steps off the platform, she and everyone immediately went into survival mode. The tributes viciously start to kill each other because they were afraid of being killed themselves. In comparison, The boys from the Lord of the Flies were afraid of a beast coming to hunt them.
Arthur Ashe once said, “True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” The legend's words support the idea that people don’t help others for popularity; they sacrifice their lives for the well-being of the people. In the novel The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins introduces the protagonist Katniss Everdeen to illustrate that heroes give up their lives for the safety of the community just as Arthur Ashe stated. As Katniss faces a battle of the fittest, she also helps her family survive the torture by the government Through this book, Collins shows the reader that people are often heroes because they do anything to save and fight for the
The Hunger Games are meant to dehumanize the tributes, but some break the rules and show compassion for one another. Katniss, Peeta, Thresh, and Rue all show compassion for each other in the Games. When the tributes don't do the right thing, you are just another piece in the Games. If one of the tributes isn't teamed up or doing the right thing, somebody might just go out and kill you.
Have you ever wonder what it would be like to live in a world where people have to fight to death because the rich say so. In my book The Hunger Games Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. In this book a girl named Katniss recently won the hunger games but now she has to fight again because the Quarter Quell which means every 25 years the Capital adds a twist in the games. She has to try to survive but has to try to make sure her friends make in out of the arena too. Katniss also has to try not to start a revolt in the district, if she doesn't President Snow is gonna end up killing everybody she knows. In the end of the book she ends up breaking the forcefield that's keeping them in and gets rescued but then finds out her home has been fire bombed.
Katniss’ main focus during the Games prevents herself from getting killed and finding a way to live while everyone is hunting each other. Unlike Ralph and Jack who only had to worry about food and fun, Katniss’ life is at stake and she has to find food and shelter while staying alive. She has more at risk then Ralph and Jack. Appearance, like in Lord of the Flies, is also a key part of survival in The Hunger Games. Before one enters the arena they have to make sure they look their best because “the
Have you ever wonder what people have to go through every day in their lives or what struggles or maybe what they do with their life? The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is about, a girl, Katniss Everdeen, that volunteers to fight in the Games against other tributes that are from the other 11 districts. The tributes in the Games fight to survive and they have to save themselves from dying and some people are taking a lot of sacrifices when there in the games. Families and the Capitol have different feelings about The Hunger Games, the families think it’s horrifying that people die for no reason and the Capitol thinks it’s fun and exciting watching people getting killed and just watching them suffer. As the book progresses the reader learns
For my independent novel study, I have decided to use Suzanne Collin’s Novel the Hunger Games; a story set around a teenaged girl’s firsthand account of gladiator-like sports in a post-apocalyptic era where North America once stood. The book creates a mood or sense of suspense and hope for Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist who has to fight for survival in the Hunger Games. This reminds me of and relates to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Where in his novel, a group of boys are found stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere and must fight for their survival as well as hope to be rescued. Katniss, just like the boys, finds herself trapped in an arena with other tributes, but
In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Katniss, who is the main character is place to compete against twenty three other kids both boys and girls in order to survive. Katniss is a strong sixteen year old girl, who is far more mature than her age. Katniss is the provider in her family, which consist of herself, her mother and her little sister Prim. She is very protective over her sister and volunteers to take her place in the hunger games. Katniss is the person her family depends on for everything, but in a game like the hunger games, where life is at stake, and someone has to compete against others in order to survive, it is hard to survive without the help of others in some way. Katniss is able to survive the Hunger Games because
