The Roman Empire : The Most Extensive Political And Social Structure Of Western Civilization

The roman empire is historically known of being the largest empire in human history, lasting from 27 BCE to 1453 AD. Many historians are discussing what allowed the roman empire from becoming the grand empire that it was. Many historians believed it was their superior military technology, their great strong willed people, or their brilliante leaders. However, some believed it was the earlier Roman way of living during the empire's early days allowed the empire to rise, and it ended because rome was different than it once was. The Roman Empire is known as one of the strongest empires in history, due to their advanced technology, strong military leaders, and republican government. As the empire started to expand, so did their power. However, after years have gone by, the Roman Empire started to fall. Their fall may have been caused by political reason, such as the empire being just too much to handle, Diocletian splitting the territory in half, and their government corruption.

The Roman Empire was or could be one of the greatest empires to have ever existed to this day. Just like many empires the Roman Empire fell to betrayal, religion, and war. Lasting from 27BC to 1453 the Roman Empire to me is the most interesting empire to talk about. When you take any history class that explores times outside the US, you hear about the Roman Empire being involved some way or somehow. The Roman Empire history can go on for days. I will pack most of the history into a small 5 page essay and if you don’t know anything about the Roman Empire, You will have a better understanding and will more than likely see why I believe the Roman Empire was one of the greatest of all time.

The Roman empire owed its existence to Julius Caesar’s military genius and leadership. At the time of his birth, the Roman republic was rife with corruption, losing touch with the people as Rome rapidly expanded. In addition, the republic suffered much unrest due to an excess of slave labor, leaving many unemployed for the government to sustain with basic food and entertainment, or “bread and circuses.” Caesar changed this, joining partnership with two other prominent men, the wealthy Crassus and the general Pompey, to form the First Triumvirate. However, he quickly took the reins of the new government, securing his position as dictator with many populist actions, such as distributing land to poor farmers. They, in turn, showed loyalty toward their leader, providing unity and patriotism. The Roman empire was born into the perfect geographical and cultural circumstances to rise to greatness.

Over the course of several centuries, Rome built one of the largest empires the world have ever known. Rome for a period of time was considered the center of civilization. The empire was beautiful. It was often invaded but well protected by a powerful army. Some people believed the empire would last forever.

The Ancient Roman Civilization was so large and advanced that it was able to influence the entire Western Civilization today. Some things influenced include modern architecture, entertainment, sports, and the calendar. The Roman Empire was so powerful, militarily and technologically, that their influences can still be seen around the world, and in people’s daily lives.

Many historians still don’t know who founded Rome, but the romans had a myth about their city. Long ago two children were born- Remus and Romulus, the king was scared that Remus and Romulus would overthrow him and take away his thrown. So he soon threw them into the Tiber River but a She-wolf saved them, they soon grew up and then quarreled about who would take over the thrown. Romulus soon killed Remus and named the city after himself, Rome.

Roman Empire was considered as one of the most influential and dominant Empire in the history that has ever existed. “The Roman Empire at its zenith in the period of the Principate (roughly, 27 BC to AD 235) covered vast tracts of three continents, Europe, Africa, and Asia” (Garnsey). It was an ancient, modern Empire, and it supported anyone who made discoveries and technological improvements. The Empire was the strongest governing body in the Mediterranean.

Despite the fact that the Roman Empire ended thousands of years ago, many different parts of the empire survived and still have a huge impact on life today. The aspect of the empire that I believe have had the largest effect today is the legacy of writing and language. Many citizens of this famous empire believed that this empire would last forever. But due to weak borders, a changed capital, and a bad ruler the empire eventually met its end and collapsed. Despite this fact the power empire will forever live on for many generation to come.

What kind of technology in the Roman Empire affect its growth the most? I will be investigating from the start of the Roman Empire in 753 BCE to when the Western Roman Empire fell in 476 CE. This investigation will have a broad scope while investigating and include things from the Roman Legion to aqueducts and concrete. This investigation will not include technology that was not widely used to better the Roman Empire. The research question will answer my question by conducting research on how different groups of technology made the Roman Empire better based off of their potential uses and different contributions to Roman society.

According to urban legend, Ancient Rome, once an empire with unequivocal power, was founded by the brothers Romulus and Remus. This urban legend claims that in an argument over where the city would be located Romulus killed Remus and named the city after himself. This is the myth behind the beginning of the Roman Empire. In the beginning, Rome, originally a small town on the banks of the Tiber river, grew from early on trade. The location of the city on the Tiber river provided merchants with an easily navigable way to which they could traffic their goods.

The Roman empire is considered one of the most powerful and longest lasting empire of all time by most historians. At its peak the Roman empire managed to take control and rule nearly the whole inhabited world at the time. Though their military achievements were outstanding the Romans also excelled at legislature. The Romans ran a governmental system which was most like a republic which the power was in the hand of the senators and patricians. The senators and patricians were mostly extremely rich elders of the community who linked themselves to gods. Though the people were the ones who voted for the senators the rich always voted who they wanted because they were the first to vote which made the senate corrupt since the lower classes barely got a say. Although the Roman empire was extremely successful historians are always doing research to figure out what elements led to its collapse. However, the Roman legislature, use of propaganda to sway public opinion, military power to conquer lands, and philosophy were essential reasons for the extended survival of the Roman empire.

The public sphere of Rome, which included religious norms, social settings, as well as some other cultural divides, has been known to greatly affect the Roman political system throughout, from its inception to its fall. Our world has seen many great empires and perhaps the most popular one by name is the Roman Empire. A great number of books have been written on this subject, many movies have been made, and the Roman Empire remains rich in our minds to this date. The Roman history involves some great moments as it recounts such great leaders as Julius Caesar (see Picture 1)[1], the birth of Christ and his exploits, and then the setting up of the Church and the Vatican by
