This novel opened my eyes to the fact that life is full of hardships but we should always persevere because there is someone out there that needs us. All the character helped each other in this book. They didn’t have to help each other. They could have just looked out for themselves. But because they knew that there was someone that was counting on them. That someone needed them and that was their motivation to keep moving forward. “Was he going to shoot me? No, he had killed the Russian. He has saved me” (11). This quote comes from the very beginning of the book when Florian saves Emilia from a Russian soldier. She is alone and scared and the Russian is going to kill her just because he can and he wants her supplies. This starts their relationship …show more content…
I was hers” (301). This quote comes from when Emilia finally accepts her baby. She realized that now she was all this baby had. The child needed someone to protect, care for, and love her. She also realized that now this baby was a part of her. She wasn't alone anymore, now she had someone who needed her. I chose this quote because you see a big change in Emilia. She wanted to give up a lot in this book. She thought she was destined to die. However, once that baby was born she realized that she couldn’t give up. She finally had a motivation to keep going and protect this innocent child. Even though she doesn’t survive in the book she still puts her child before herself. She makes sure that Florian takes her baby on the lifeboat and the baby survives thanks to Emilia’s sacrifice “Just when you think this war has taken everything you loved, you meet someone else and realize that somehow you still have more to give” (315). This quote comes from the shoe poet. He says this when he is talking to Florian. Poet is trying to convince Florian to tell Joanna his feelings. Like Florian, Poet thought that he had no one and that he was useless to everyone and he just needed to survive the war and eventually die alone. But Poet finds Klaus and for a while is happy being “grandpa” and caring for
The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to
There were a few points in this book that taught me about life and how crazy it can be sometimes. The photographer named Fulgencio was very afraid of hitch hiking to Mexico City with a stranger, especially with all of us expensive equipment. On the ride, Fulgencio is so paranoid that the guy is going to kill him, he grabs a machete out of the back of the truck. In doing so he gets kicked out of the car and loses all of his photography equipment anyways. This taught me that we need to trust each other more, Just because there are a few crazy people in the world, we shouldn't let them give us all a bad name. I mean, the guy picked Fulgencio up when he was in desperate need of a car, and gives him a ride. He should have been thankful, not picked up a machete and threaten the guy. Another thing this book taught me was that just because your sister doesn't want your kid anymore because she
Many times you will find that the characters in this book put others before themselves in a lot of hard situations. Although, it's not in any intense situations, you can still tell that the characters of this story will help each other out no matter what. Getting weight off of someone's shoulders is nice to do for someone, esecially if they have a lot on thier
Steinbeck wrote about many different characters who are full of dreams which sadly none of their dreams came true. Everyone has a big dream that would like to accomplish one day but sometimes , when we get lonely our dreams don’t come true. She probably felt unfair that this tragedy happen to her and why she received subsequent losses in return. In addition, she also implies why God so soon took this kid away from her. After demonstrating her agony and doubtfulness, she came back to her sense that God is God. He has the power and decisions to do whatever he wants in the second verse.

People will make some of the biggest decisions in their young lives and sometimes make the wrong one. For me though, the book taught me that any form of hardship can be overcome if you persist. Furthermore, it taught me that saying goodbye to family does not have to be forever, no matter the circumstances. Lourdes and Enrique were apart for so long, yet they were brought back together and became a family
The book is basically about how you can help someone in a time of need by just being there for them. Jill writes about what learned when she was helping her friend and how all it takes is just a few people to help someone. Kara writes about how much she appreciated just the little things people did for her. From people taking them meals, to doing their laundry to just watching and taking care of her kids for just a few hours. Jill writes that she felt awkward
Disney is popular for the quote “If you can dream it you can do it.” The quote is to show that if you dream and strive for a goal for a long time, the dream is able to come to life. Disney’s quote somewhat shows through the dreams in the story “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. The novella shows people with big dreams that they want to accomplish but don’t complete all the way. Curley’s wife wanted to escape her loneliness, Crooks wanted equality, and George and Lennie wanted a farm showing that all people had a dream that they almost accomplished.
Douglas Coupland once said, “Remember: the time you feel lonely is the time you most need to be by yourself. Life's cruelest irony.” Douglas Coupland is describing in his quote a way that someone is displaying loneliness and needs someone to break it but deep down you yourself is the only one who can free you from it. Of Mice and Men is taken place in Salinas Valley, California, Steinbeck had written the novel during the great depression: a long and severe recession in an economy or market. George and Lennie the main characters of this novel and are two unemployed men seeking work.
