A hero is someone who does selfless courageous acts. This statement refers to a great amount of people in the world. There are many heroes in the world and they come in all different shapes and sizes. For some there is no badge or reward for what they do and they still do it. Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus can be known as a hero. He performed acts in order to protect his crew and his family. Odysseus is a fictional character. Doc Hendley is a real life hero who created a foundation to help those without water. Both of these character displayed characteristics of a hero. A true hero completes selfless courageous acts despite the obstacles they pose without expecting any reward.
In the epic The Odyssey the main character, Odysseus, could be described as an hero. The decisions that he made were made for the sake of his pride but also for the sake of his crew. Although Odysseus made decisions for the sake of his pride he always put his crew first. On the island of the lotus eaters Odysseus demonstrates his heroism and leadership. When two of Odysseus’s men go out and explore the island they are offered to eat the lotus flower and they do. So the rest of his crew doesn’t get influenced by the Lotus Eaters Odysseus calls them back on ship and ties down the others that ate the lotus flower.
