The controversial issue that surrounds beauty is that some believe that true beauty is defined by someone’s outer appearance, while others believe it is something that is experiences through a person’s character. Beauty is defined as the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the sense or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. The secret of beauty has been a quest of humans for centuries. It has been determined that women and some men spend up to one third of their income on products and procedures that enhance their looks. People spend way too much time looking in the mirror, scrutinizing, worrying, fretting, and wishing people could change something about themselves. People dream of looking like the girl at work because she has great hair, or the girl people meet at a party because she is skinny, with the perfect nose. This happens because people are constantly on social media. A pretty face is not a complete definition of beauty, nor is the quality of one being kind and compassionate. To contain beauty, someone or something does not have to be physically beautiful. Beauty is everywhere. Take a simple flower.

Beauty does not define a person. Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, which pressures the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Being able to define who someone really is, does come from those qualities. Someone’s personality comes from inside of someone. The outside only shows part of us but not who someone really is. Beauty does say or show the real qualities of who someone truly is.

Love is such a complicated word, it is so simple to see it as a simple math problem with a one or two letter response but in all actuality, love is much much more complicated. It is this thought that what we have interpreted here on this earth is one type of love and God has another type of love designed for us. In the book “The General Theory of Love” it discusses this idea of love through attachment and how the baby monkey if given a choice can choose whether it gets comfort and safety from one surrogate mother or food and nourishment from another. The result each time is the same, the baby monkey will select the surrogate mother of comfort and safety over nourishment and this result then creates this question of “what is love really?” (Lewis, Amini, Landon, 72).

Beauty is defined as a quality that pleases or delights the senses or mind. So many people today are programmed to think that beauty lies in a person’s physical appearance. I think that beauty is in what a person sees in another person. What might make one person pretty, makes another one hard to look at.

Beauty is constantly changing to fit every person, every situation, every possible rendition that could ever be thought of. Yes, the girl with legs that go for miles is a pleasant thing to look at, but once she opens her mouth her face seems less important. How is that beauty if she brings nothing but ugly into the world? No one considers the so called "loner" at the back of the classroom, who at best would be rated a four, beautiful, though every night they are up talking their friend out of suicide because the blonde told them they are meaningless. Building others up while you feel like you are falling, is beautiful. Lipstick and eyeliner is not

People have contributed to the physical and cultural view of beauty in societies all around the world. Each country has different beauty standards that reflect off of each other to display diversity: “Beauty is informed by values, culture, religion, background and societal influence. Concepts of beauty has change over time depending on environment, culture, etc”. Through the different standards of other cultures, societies are able to learn that there is not only one form of beauty. The evolution of beauty around the world allows people to compare opinions with another to form individual perspectives of beauty.

Beauty is based solely on perception. Everyone has their own version of what they find beautiful. With current media, beauty is portrayed as very particular characteristics such as weight and height. With that being said, many people believe that beauty describes a person’s physical appearance. When asked “What is beauty?”, people respond with a hot new celebrity or someone they wish to be. According to Webster’s Dictionary beauty is defined by a combination of qualities present in a person or thing that brings satisfaction. True beauty is a mixture of physical attributes along with character. Beauty is confidence, as the natural, strong, powerful person, one has grown to be.

Art and beauty are synonymous to one another. Vocabulary.com defines art as the expression of ideas and emotions through a physical medium, like painting, sculpture, film, dance, writing, photography, or theatre. Vocabulary.com also defines beauty as “A noun depicting an incredibly pleasing or harmonious quality or feature, beauty is hard to describe.” These definitions refer to art as a definite object, physical or metaphysical while beauty is subjective. It is open to interpretation, thus implicating, that since the two are synonymous that art is also open to individual interpretation.
