Hobbies, good or bad, we all have our own set of them and is another factor that make us unique from one another. Hobbies come in a variety of categories. They may be hobbies related to physical fitness, social lifestyle, spiritual, and the likes. (Rajkoomar, 2015) Hobby is not an inborn inclination. It is developed through a constant and systematic process. A hobby is not pursued to make a profit. The main purpose of a hobby is to derive pleasure out of it. It gives us mental and physical relaxation. One makes the best use of one’s spare time by pursuing a hobby. Hobbies are used for one’s entertainment or leisure. By doing our hobbies, we get to develop and discover skills, talents, and potential on a particular activity. We also find …show more content…
The three different hobbies selected are playing billiards, Sudoku, and solving a Rubik’s cube. The first hobby is playing billiards. According to the World Pool – Billiard Association, the official Governing Body of Pool, the games of Pool Billiards are played on a flat table covered with cloth and bounded by rubber cushions. The player uses a stick (pool cue) to strike a cue ball which in turn strikes object balls. The goal is to drive object balls into six pockets located at the cushion boundary. The games vary according to which balls are legal targets and the requirements to win a match. Playing billiards has a variety of benefits to a person. Billiards, according to Health Fitness Revolution (2015), is a catchall term for the table top game played that requires pool sticks (or cues) to hit hard balls into one of six pockets. Each round of billiards, whatever game type one chooses to play, is uniquely presented and requires players to be mentally agile and physically adept. The game play, by its nature is bound to have benefits in a player’s lifestyle. Trigonometry, basic geometry, and physics are easily found in this math related sport. Meaning you would have to master the behaviour of the way angles works in order for you to excel in this game. Because of this, you would have to be focused and calm in order for you to be a better and …show more content…
Just by looking at the way it works, one will most likely say that one is mathematically inclined if one knows how to solve it. A Rubik’s Cube comes in varieties ranging from 2x2x2 cubes until up to 13x13x13 cubes, with 6 different colors on each side of the cube, all following a variety of methods to solve them once the cubes have been scrambled. According to Estevez (2015), “Depending on whether you figure it out yourself or get help from tutorials, there are many benefits in learning something new and in this case, there are many benefits in learning how to solve the Rubik’s cube. For starters, it’s no secret that learning something new helps promote a healthy and happy brain. Each time you learn a new skill you are rewiring the parts of your brain by connecting neurons. The older we get, the easier it is to allow ourselves to fall into patterns. We know a certain route to get to a destination and more often than not we follow the same route rather than look for a new way. There is nothing wrong with that, but if you take measures to always stay on the hunt for learning, you will create a healthier future for yourself. The Rubik’s cube is the perfect example. The Rubik’s Cube also serves as a representation of life. We face problems daily and work through them to get through the day successfully. Whether you are figuring out a new way to travel or deciding what to make for dinner,

something that we like to do instead doing something that we don’t want and have something in
Some might argue that spending ages in the cold on creating a temporary piece of art that will fall apart merely a few hours later is somewhat crazy and over ambitious but, aren’t there certain activities for all of us that we like to spend our time on, even though when/if they might not be particularly productive as such?
“What the Best College Students Do” implies that one would eventually lose interest in a pastime if he was being paid to do the said pastime. This is because the employer and the money become an outside influence. Once a hobby is no longer voluntary, it begins to feel more like a duty and less of a pleasure. I am curious if I would the same experience. For example, I love playing video games. Theoretically, it seems unlikely that I would lose interest in video games if someone was paying me to play them. However, I could see myself becoming weary of them I if was expected to complete a specific amount of games in a given amount of time. Much of my enjoyment of video games comes from the fact that it can be done at my own pace. Likewise, many other hobbies have this same
Many people find hobbies that they enjoy; some people find hobbies that they love and make them lose track of time. What I have come to realize is that when you truly have a passion for something, whether it be good or bad, you tend to put it ahead of other things in life. You become so skilled in this one area because it is something you truly enjoy doing. But you can take what you have learned from this and apply it to the real world. What drives me is bass fishing, to the average person this just sounds like a lazy man's weekend activity. When I was young there wasn't much to it just put bait on a hook and wait but the possibility of potentially catching a giant has kept me hooked. As I have grown older I've learned how complicated what seems to be simple task
Two of my hobbies include golf and film and finance. As captain of the varsity golf team, I take golf very seriously. Not only is golf fun and important for my motor skills, it’s very important in the business world. There’s an old saying that 80% of business gets done on the golf course, and I can see why this is true. On the golf course you feel relaxed, all you’re worried about is how you’re playing and what club you’re going to use for your next shot. Film, has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. If I had the choice, I would sit in bed all day and watch film after film. I find film to be an incredible art form as it lets all different kinds of artists; directors, actors and cinematographers display their art form in one piece. Finally, Finance is something that I’ve learned form my father, it is an art in itself as those who can correctly read trends and wait to buy and sell are the grandmasters of the trade. Finance is something I want to do in the future and something that I find incredibly fascinating. Finally my personally traits are those of someone who is funny but can be serious when the time comes. I am very dedicated to my schoolwork and always strive to give my 100%. But, when its time to let lose, I am hands
Running, eating, cooking, reading, there are countless of different hobbies to choose. Some of them may seem useless in a way, trainspotting for instance. Even addiction to drugs is trivial to me, and the characters’ lives do not attract me. Maybe the drug addiction and the trainspotting hobby have similarities, at least both of them can be considered as fairly special lifestyles.
Hobby is described as a regular activity that is done for pleasure. Common misconceptions about hobbies are that some think that hobbies or recreations are just for people who live
My favorite hobby or favorite thing to do is play softball. The first time I stepped out on a softball field, I knew then that it was the sport for me. I’ve been playing softball since I was eight, and before I could play softball, I played baseball. One of my softball coaches reminds my softball team regularly that “The field and game
This week I am starting my final project. I have come to the conclusion that I will learn the Rubik’s cube in the next few weeks. Hopefully, I will be able to learn to complete it at the least and memorize the solution if possible. I went out and purchased a Rubik’s cube for about 15 dollars a few days ago. Of course I’ve already scrambled it and threw my sad attempt at accomplishing something without these foreign directions that come out of the box. I guess I can relate this to the process of converting to a new religion or being introduced to a new religion. It’s very confusing and overwhelming, being careful not to misinterpret anything at face value. I feel intimidated, but determined to learn this little three by three cube. Laziness
Just like chess, I would've never returned to my Rubik's cube again after failing numerous times if it wasn't for my resilience. Now, because I stuck with it, I can now solve a Rubik's cube in under 25 seconds and I can also solve many other puzzles like the Rubik's cube. Some perks that came from me learning how to solve the Rubik's cube are that I'm better at solving other puzzles, I've inspired others to learn how to solve the Rubik's cube, and I've made countless
The most important thing about the rubix cube is that it constructed with a perfect symmetry. If you like to know how to solve a rubix cube, than this information will help you very much, in fact the symmetry of the cube is the winning key for the solution.
Understanding that making time for one is not only useful for academic purposes, but for entertainment purposes as well.
A hobby is an activity one develops to pursue an interest, outside of one’s regular occupation and engages in them primarily for pleasure. Hobbies range from fly fishing to leather working to star gazing, it can be anything you want it to be and anything you want to do. Having a hobby helps to make you a more interesting person and it can give you the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests. A chain of events may lead you to a new hobby which you had never considered or thought of before.
I have many hobbies that I fill my time with. I enjoy reading. Ever since I was little my dad has called me a “voracious reader”. I am open to reading any kind of book, but I especially love realistic fiction, action adventure, and nonfiction. I also love playing sports. I did track for one year, softball for two years, gymnastics for three years, basketball for five years, and soccer my whole life as well as camps for tennis and swim. I find that playing sports has taught me many important skills including teamwork and reaching out to others as I’ve played with new people. These sports have also taught me the importance of staying healthy and fit. One of my other hobbies is music. I love music and find myself dabbling in piano and guitar whenever I have free time. I also play the trumpet and sing in my church choir. Lastly, I love baking and cooking. Although to my parents dismay sometimes (because they complain I’m making them fat) I always find myself gravitating to the kitchen and have acquired quite the collection of pans, sprinkles, food coloring, and other tools. My hobbies have taught me the importance of hard work and dedication and a love for trying new things.
