One of the main themes throughout the book is the title of the book “Night”. There are references from Eliezer about night during the book, which are full of symbolism. The word “night” is used repeatedly, and Eliezer recounts every dusk, night and dawn through the entire book. For instance, Night could be a metaphor for the Holocaust—submerge the family and thousands of Jewish families in the darkness and misery of the concentration camps.

Anna herself comes to realise this in a non-egotistical way and says that she is a ‘woman who has faced more terrors than many warriors’. Opening in 1665, Brooks begins to outline the events of the plague year that enabled Anna to ‘shine’ and become the young woman who has faced the terrors of the mob, midwifery and mining. Instead of joining the grieving mob who attacked Mem and Anys Gowdie, the town healers, accusing them of being witches and blaming them for their losses to the plague, Anna fights with all her strength to bring the crowd to their senses. Alycia Grant Rough Draft: The book "Night by Elie Wiesel was the most interesting book that I have ever read. It conveyed very well what had occurred during the Holocaust. Reading this book made me feel the emotions, and stress involved with him being in this situation. The writing was descriptive, but not too much so that it was boring. The writing in this story painted a vivid picture in my mind. No matter where he was, I had a good idea of how his environment appeared in his mind. He described well what he felt, heard, smelled, tasted, and seen. This made me like the book much more, and it helped me better understand how horrible and traumatic this event really was. Elie Wiesel is a strong person in my opinion for being able to go through what he did, and then write about exactly what happened, in deep detail, afterwards.

While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy task because she couldn’t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral code of Germany was overturned. She contested her father and went against the respect you’re supposed to have. Her story was not a complete positive statement of female dominance, because that certainly was not the case, an ugly thirty-year court battle doesn’t indicate disempowerment either, even though her battle didn’t personally benefit her to the fullest, it was a large step for women.

The Holocaust was a horrible time period where Nazi’s attempted a genocide of Jewish people, gypsies and others they deemed had a disability. The victims would be sent to concentration camps, such as Auschwitz. The point of views the authors used can advance their purpose. If authors use objective point of view, they give only facts about the topic and does not give any opinions or bias. Unlike objective, subjective point of views helps form your opinion by giving the author’s experience and bias. The article “Auschwitz,” the film One Day at Auschwitz, and the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel feature information and experiences during the time the Holocaust took place.

It was at first a slow progression from limiting the rights of the Jewish people, to wearing the Star of David and then to the attempted extermination. The Germans then began a race to kill the Jews as quickly as they could (Wiesel, 2008).

Nobody wants to read such a morbid book as Night. There isn’t anybody (other than the Nazis and Neo-Nazis) who enjoys reading about things like the tortures, the starvation, and the beatings that people went through in the concentration camps. Night is a horrible tale of murder and of man’s inhumanity towards man. We must, however, read these kinds of books regardless. It is an indefinitely depressing subject, but because of its truthfulness and genuine historic value, it is a story that we must learn, simply because it is important never to forget. Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel, a young Jewish boy, who tells of his experiences during the Holocaust. Elie is a deeply religious boy whose favorite activities are studying the Talmud and spending time at the Temple with his spiritual mentor, Moshe the Beadle. Anna also undertakes a spiritual journey over the course of the book. Her learning of the villages’ Rector, Michael Mompellion’s true thoughts near the novels end, as well as her realisations on the nature of some of the other villagers causes her to question her Christian faith and its restrictions it places on her in the society she lives in. This can be seen in her accepting view of the Muslim faith in the epilogue.
