The Titanic : The Wreck Of The Titan

Adrienne Rich’s “Diving into the Wreck” sends one into a deep cultural descent. We look a one ones exploration into the rift in society between sexes, and the journey to rewrite that. The three parts that symbolize this are: the book of myths, the camera and the knife, the diver’s relationship with the wreck and the cargo found below.

The British luxury passenger ship, The Titanic, set sail on April 10, 1912, en route to New York City from Southampton (Lord ch 1). During her maiden voyage, midnight of April 15, 1912, she began to sink (ch 1). The Titanic had a collision with an iceberg that was around 100 feet tall (“Titanic: 40 Fascinating Facts” 3). Regardless to how greatly manufactured the Titanic was, and with beliefs that she was unsinkable, the miscalculation of human error proves that every possible outcome cannot be prevented, disasters can still occur regardless of careful planning.

The paper I decided to do was on “Schindler’s List”. I have seen this movie four times and yet had not really noticed the many ways in which the director, Steven Spielberg, used the camera to emphasis a “million words”. It was interesting, when watching this film from this stand point, how I was able to see the importance of the way the director uses sounds and color to make some much significant points of a film.

(Attention material) Morgan Robertson wrote a book called The Wreck of the Titan. It was about a so called “unsinkable” ship named the Titan that set sail from England to New York. There were many rich and famous passengers on board. On its journey, the Titan hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and sunk. Because of the lack of lifeboats, many people died. If this sounds familiar, get this. The Wreck of the Titan was written 14 years before the Titanic sank.

It's common knowledge that the Titanic didn’t have enough lifeboats, even though it met the require amount by the board of trade the mindset was that it wasn’t going to sink in the first place so it didn’t really matter if they added more. These mindsets lead to more than 1,500 passengers losing their lives, and further in the essay you can see that pattern emerge more than once. Another controversial topic is whether or not the titanic tried to beat a cross Atlantic speed record.

The article Into the Dark Water by Lauren Tarshis is about when the most massive, high in technology, indestructible ship sunk. The Titanic of course. Also when passenger and survivor Jack Thayer shared his journey, through his writing with author Lauren Tarshis. It makes the article more intriguing to use quotes because it makes you feel as if you are on the ship on that night.

Credibility Statement: (I have always been interested in the history of the Titanic and I am truly taken away by the facts that my research has shown me. )

I'm a journalist and I am trying to write about the titanic. My two disasters outlets are history History Channel and Nat Geo magazines. Today my disaster is the titanic and if you didn’t know the titanic was a huge ship that hit an iceberg. The ship killed 2,200 people and was a fatality. The ship hit in the North Atlantic Ocean. It sank from 4/14/17-4/15/19. I choose these web sites because they are both very used resources. The titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The Titanic may be one of the most famous and well known shipwrecks of our time. Just about everyone learns of the tragedy in school and how it was a complete accident. Information has been found that point to the tragedy not being what we think it is. There is evidence that shows that the ship thought to be the Titanic may actually be named the Olympic, and may have been used in an insurance scam. This evidence includes pictures showing different amounts of port holes and even people working on the ship coming forward. It has yet to be proven if this is 100% true, but most would agree that all of this points to it being true.

One of the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century, was the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Although many ships have succumbed to the icebergs in the ocean, none have accounted for a greater loss of life than the Titanic (Hill, 2000). All the hype surrounding the Titanic in 1912, made people believe this ship was going to be an unstoppable luxury cruise; even third class passengers would be able to enjoy simple things that weren’t offered on other ocean liners at the time, like cooked meals and their own private cabins. The Titanic was dubbed the Ship of Dreams; however, it would turn into a nightmare for the passengers and their families in less than a week. The maiden voyage from South Hampton, England to New York City, New York would be a journey no one could forget. The sinking of the Titanic would capture the imagination of Hollywood directors, and became the passion of sea explorers who would search for the great vessel.
