It was a mistake," you said. But the cruel thing was, it felt like the mistake was mine, for trusting you.” -David Levithan The lover's dictionary. David Levithan is trying to say that he should have never trusted who he was talking about, and how the person stabbed him in the back. The theme in the book The True Confessions Of Charlotte Doyle is trust; Charlotte Doyle has had issues with trust in the book which just so happens to be the conflict. For example: Trusting the crew, the crew trusting her, trying to get the captain to trust her, and trying to get the captain to trust the crew. The first example of the theme trust, is getting the crew to trust Charlotte. Currently the crew does not trust Charlotte for her recent action of telling the captain about the red robin the crew had made to rebel against the captain. After that Charlotte wanted to prove herself to the crew by becoming one of them, she could tell that at first they weren’t sure of this. The crew also doesn’t trust Charlotte because they saw her carrying a dirk that Zachariah had given her. Later on in the story, Mr. Hollybrass, the second mate, was found dead under the main mast during a storm. He was stabbed in the back and killed with Charlotte’s dirk and he was found holding her handkerchief. A trial was held to accuse Charlotte for killing Mr. Hollybrass. During the trial when the captain asked if anyone wanted to talk on behalf of Charlotte to defend her, no one stood up for her. Sadly, no one
In chapters 9-15 of The Scarlet Letter, the author decides to dedicate an entire chapter to each character. For example, on chapter 9, the chapter is dedicated to what happens with Roger. Roger becomes friends with Arthur Dimmesdale in chapter 9. Dimmesdale is sick, and he thinks Roger is kind and suspects nothing. But Roger, who is Arthur's personal physician, begins to suspect that Dimmesdale is hiding something from him. At this part of the book, we don't know what the author plans for Dimmesdale to hide, if he even is hiding anything at all.
Trust- should be slowly built up across team members, through developing confidence in each other’s competence and reliability. Trusting individuals are willing to share their knowledge and skills without fear of being diminished or exploited.
Learning plays an essential role in life. We learn something new everyday. In Frank O'Connor's short story "The First Confession", Jackie, the main character, learns a lesson he'll always remember. After Jackie's first confession, he could now be confident that he was not such a sinner, and that Nora, his sister, was wrong. While people focused on Jackie's own wrong doings, they weren't focusing on their own wrong actions. Sometimes people's ignorance can bring them into a whole different reality. Through certain characters and different incidents, O'Connor stresses his theme that people's ignorance can blind them from their own sins.

“Reality is easy. Deception that's the hard the hard work” -Lauryn Hill. In the novel the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses literary elements such as symbolism, irony and conflict to show deception and secrecy can lead to self-destruction. This relates to the Scarlet Letter because in the book the protagonist character commits an act of sin that was more than just frowned upon. Not only does the community gossip and turn their cheek to the sinner but a sickness comes along from keeping a secret from the community.
In the story Charlotte Doyle, by Avi, the main character Charlotte Doyle has one big conflict that is about her voyage to America. That is because Charlotte Doyle gets put on a ship that takes her on an expedition back to America, but--she is the only female onboard… Now a theme that I would have to choose thus far into the novel would have to be “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, this works figuratively and literally because the literal would come from the actual cover, you’d think that she would be conflicted on her voyage by weather, because of the waves crashing hard against the seahawk and figuratively because of the actual book. I mean she is on this voyage and she’s the only female aboard the ship, and it’s very rough because she is
Charlotte Doyle had no idea that one trip on a ship could change you drastically? Avi’s, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle shows how one ride across the Atlantic Ocean could be horrific, enjoyable, smelly, and depressing. Throughout Charlotte’s ship ride on the Seahawk, her friends, actions, clothes, and the way she viewed people changed. Her friends changed from Captain Andrew Jaggery, to the crew, her actions changed from proper to laid-back, and her clothes became dirty. Charlotte’s adventure on the Seahawk changed her in many ways.

In the stories of The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the antagonist characters display parallel story lines through their searches for the enemy. Roger Chillingworth, the former husband of Hester Prynne and the antagonist of The Scarlet Letter, works against his wife in order to find her untold second lover. Frankenstein is a contrasting story in which an unnamed monster is the antagonist towards his human creator, Dr. Frankenstein.
