The United States dealt through many problems and challenges that they were forced to overcome. Throughout the battles that The U.S. faced, they encountered many benefits that shaped them. Such as the conflict in the west, the gilded age the change and industrialization, along with the progressive area were events that lead to the problems and issues that the United States addressed.
Because of the Civil War, the lives of American Indians were greatly impacted. Before the civil war, Indian tribes and whites were enemies. By the end of the war, the two groups had grown together and became significant to one another, this included the Great Plains. This was a huge benefit for

The tribe was much divided but without these two leaders, the tribes would have been destroyed. The tribes were able to live in peace for a while until they were forced to move and so that is when their chief Joseph who lead them as they moved to the Idaho reservation. The Indians wanted to remain independent so they headed north. As the tribe was led by their chief the US wouldn’t let the tribe out of their sight, and finally were able to catch up to them. Once the US caught up they stopped most of the Indians from moving forward. The U.S were successful in putting them back onto the reservation. The US army faced challenges when it came to battles with the Sioux. The problem with this battle was that the Lakota Sioux was winning the battle and before peace was settled by the government, many U.S troops were killed. The US government created the Grants peace policy which was made to help war with the Indians. The Indians would be allowed to have their freedom. After that had happened, The U.S. created the Dawes Severalty a] Act which had a goal of making the Indians owners of farms and lands.
Throughout much of the West, the battle between those who wanted to control the land, and those who wanted land for their cattle. America dealt with all this as the west was expanding as they defeated the Indians and successfully creating the Homestead Act. The U.S. also expanded through the use of transportation. Railroads became important
First of all, the Plains Indian were great travelers that roam free throughout the lands and were great fighters who used guerilla tactics. With time, came the genocide of the of the buffalo, this was because the Americans would just kill them for sport and leave the meat to rot. Another issue that came was the creation of reservation. As you know the plain Indians were always free to roam the land and all of the sudden the Americans tried to restrict them to one place, which could not have happened since the Indians hatted farming. In addition, you cannot forget the creations of boarding school which were founded by Francis Pratt. At the schools they tried to persuade the American way of life such as religion, clothing, and language. If a Indian spoke their native language they beaten for not
The United States post-Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether these capitalists were “robber barons” that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or “captains of industry” that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed “captains of industry” who enlarged American industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world.
The event which impacted the ending wars between the United States Army and the Indian nations was the passing of the Dawes Act. One of the top arguments facing the government was the concept that many reformers inferred about the dream of conforming the Indians into a piece of our countries’ white culture. The Dawes Act divided reservations into sections consisting of 160 acres per family to live in; therefore, the remainder of the land would be given to the surrounding white settlements. Although the Dawes Act seemed like a great benefit for the Indians, in many instances this was not true. The Indians’ lives were greatly affected by this act; the natives as the original land owners for generations
The American Civil War, also known as the Civil War, lasted from 1861 to 1865. The war was to determine the survival of the union, or independence for the confederate states. Some would argue that slavery was the principle cause of the war. After much research, I believe the war started because of the misunderstandings, and conflicts between the North and South. Slavery, however, was one of the main purposes. The North and South had economic and social differences causing many disagreements. They argued about state and federal rights, expansion of slave states, the Abolition Movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln.
Throughout history, conflicts have risen regarding the handling of certain events. Often, these conflicts have played major roles in the development of the United States; two examples are the conflicting views of slavery between numerous states during the 19th century and the different viewpoints on how the United States would treat the South after the Civil War ended. [look over old assignments and see how you expanded these] Both of these disagreements have shaped U.S. history and drastically changed the life of citizens.
The American civil war was the second most important war to Americans. The war was about a lot of things but mostly the end slavery. It was also called the War Between the States. It war between the southern and the northern states. Slavery was use for a lot of things it was use in the industrial revolution it was used for farming in the south. In the north were trade and import and export good. African’s were the most of the population of slaves. People thought slavery was a good thing. The masters would whip them if they didn’t do what they were told nor did a bad job at it. The master would tell the slaves they have it better the Jesus did when he was tortured. People would bring religion to everything. The president during the time was the great Abraham Lincoln. He was born in Kentucky. There was to teams the confederation and the union. The confederation was the south. The union was the north. The union had many people because there was draft and the slave were free in the north and would be able to join the army so they did in the north and the south. In New York there was a riot caused by the draft. Many people didn’t like that they could join that wasn’t part of the compromise. Every state in the north seceded and four states didn’t join the union or the confederation. One fact that is every surprising Kentucky never voted for President Lincoln for both terms. The greatest battle of the civil war was the battle of Bull Run. The most famous battle was the battle
By 1860, there were nearly 4 million slaves in the United States, with about 470,000 slaves in Virginia alone . In the ten years before this, tensions between pro-slavery and anti-slavery supporters had grown, sparked by critical moments such as the strengthening of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1793, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which allowed slavery in the Northern territory, and the decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford, which, ruled on by a judges from a majority of slave states, took away blacks’ rights to become a U.S. citizen and threw out the Missouri Compromise. A great deal of controversy and political turmoil surrounded these changes, intensifying divides in the nation. “Many Southerners ignored the differences between free soil and abolitionism saw the entire North locked in the grip of demented leaders bent on civil war.” One particular event, John Brown’s Raid on Harper’s Ferry in 1859, seemed to confirm Southerners’ false perception of the North.
Succeeding from certain countries is often a common solution that many would agree on in order to avoid problems within a nation. A war that includes this action is the civil war. After several disagreements of lifestyle, the South had succeeded from the United States of America. However, Abraham Lincoln’s initial goal was to keep the Union as a whole, as he continuously worked on achieving this goal. There are many accountable reasons for the Civil War, but the disagreement on slave vs. free states and the election of 1860 were the two main causes to the succeeding of the south.
The removal and building the railroad process created great conflict between both the Native’s and Americans, battles such as Sand Creek Massacre in Colorado territory which resulted in 163 Indians killed, and the Battle of Julesburg that included Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota in where the Natives defeated the U.S army
When Dred Scott decided to gives out a serious shock to the antislavery rules that hoped to keep slavery out of the Northern territories, particularly to Senator Stephen A. Douglas 's doctrine of popular sovereignty, and also acknowledged that no slave, nor offspring of a slave, could be a US citizen. As a noncitizen, the court stated, Scott did not have any rights at all; he could not sue anyone in a federal court so he just remained a slaved. So that decision had a major outcome in spreading the political and community gap between the North and the South, and conveyed the nation closer to the brink of civil war. The South celebrated, and therefore they felt a relief and justification, for at last the "Southern opinion upon the subject of
On June 17th 2015, in Charleston S.C., where the roads are named after confederate generals, 21 year old Dylann Roof wore a Rhodesian badge, as he shot nine african americans in the Emanuel Church in hope of “igniting a civil war”. (Jessica Glenza; The guardian) Previously that year Roof, had been arrested and banned from a public mall, in march for a drug charge and in April for trespassing. In his case file it states that he was found in possession of narcotics to treat his drug addiction. It was also noted that he had an obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, despite these factors, Roof was still able to personally purchase the gun from a retail gun store in charleston because of lapses in the FBI background check system, (Ellen Nakashima; Washington Post) and commit this act of racial violence.
Throughout history, the Indian Wars were a protracted series of conflicts between Native American Indians and white settlers over land and natural resources in the West. For instance, The Battle of the Little Bighorn were there was repeated attempts of the US Army along with white settlers to forcibly remove Native Americans from their tribal lands. The desire to rule brings satisfaction to America, but it caused the death of many Cheyenne and American soldiers and within five years, almost all of the Sioux and Cheyenne would be confined to
In 1862, as the tribulation of the American Civil War unraveled, across the ocean an invasion of European vineyards began. Today, as we look out at the vineyards of the lower Rhône valley and admire their well-ordered appearance of tamed nature, we would not think that this was once a scene of desolation. Yet, in the mid-1860s, vines around Roquemaure, a small town and commune located in the South of France, Rhône, began to dry up and die. Over a span of 15 years, as an unexplainable plague spread across Europe, almost the entire country of France was "phylloxerated.” Withered. Wiped out. Consequences, both economically and socially, for people and organizations around the world were dire. Recovery from this catastrophic episode took
The Civil War was a big moment in history. Many Americans know what it is and have come to appreciate it. The Civil war made big changes to America and society. Although things are not perfect in America today, the Civil War effected society in a big way and changed many people over a period of time. Thus, America was made a better place as a whole and improved drastically.
The North and the South had differences even before the beginning of the Civil War. The North had been more of an industrial economy and the South were all farmers that required cheap labor. In 1818, Missouri Territory had gained the required population to be entered into the Union as a state. It was expected to be entered as a slave state. Then in January, 1820 a bill was passed to enter Maine into the Union. This would balance out the equal power between the amount of slave states and non-slave states. This was known as the Missouri Compromise. It showed how North and South wanted an equal amount of states to be free of slaves and states with slaves. The North had already disputed having slaves and the South originally had the idea of keeping the slaves to increase their profit. The South and the North were both economically separated decades before the war, and during that time this difference was of less concern to the people of the U.S. In 1787, the 3/5ths compromise was created. The North denied the request of the South for counting black slaves which already revealed the division. Northern states did not want to let the Southern states gain power. The North was the most populated region in the U.S. The South had slaves but were not able to count them as people. The North denied the request of the South for counting black slaves which already revealed the division. The Civil War was a conflict because of the division in opinions. The American Civil War was caused by the
