1. Amorality – not being moral. Can’t distinguish between right and wrong. 2. I agree that children are amoral because they aren’t sure what is right and what is wrong. They need to be taught by mistakes and by their parents. For example, if a child swears and gets in trouble, they didn’t think they did anything wrong because he/she heard from someone else. They don’t know what is right or wrong until they learn it.
After Reading 1. The first example of foreshadowing in “The Veldt” is when the parents hear the screaming. That scream that was in the beginning of the story, is actually the scream when they are getting eaten by the lions. The second example of foreshadowing is when the father goes into the nursery and finds his wallet

The children both won being in control, because the adults got killed in both stories.
The Final Word: Theme
Through the characters of the children and the parents, Bradbury suggests that the technology influences the children’s behavior and family relationships. Technology can play a huge role in a child’s life, by controlling his/her minds. Technology can make him/her do good things, or bad things. Also, technology can control the whole family’s minds by letting each other be unnecessary in their lives. Most of the time, it is very hard to control what the technology wants you to do.
Personally I think that technology plays a huge part in everybody’s lives. For example, in “The Veldt” Peter and Wendy are influenced by the nursery so much that it acts as their parents. By then the parents feel very unnecessary towards the children. The nursery was controlling the children’s minds because it wanted them to get rid of the parents. Also, in my life I feel that using a cell phone can push me away from social interactions. For instance, when I text on my phone I don’t have any problems texting to others, but when I am socializing in person it is very hard to carry on a conversation. This makes me feel that my cell phone is breaking me apart from everyone else. Another example on how technologies influences my family would be when we are all at home we are all in different rooms. My mom would be in her room watching
Later in the story we see the kid lock their parents in the nursery with the lions to eat the parents, in order to make sure the can’t turn it off. This shows us that the kids love the room so much that they would kill their family to keep it going even if it was better for them if it was off we can see this even more when they say “a cup of tea” to the therapist this shows that they have little to no feelings about the deaths
Technology is both a miracle and a disaster in society today. New improvements have allowed children to be safer physically now more than ever, allowing parents to know where they are 24/7. However, studies have been shown that their mental state is in decline the addiction to devices is driving a separation between teens and their friends, forcing them into a deep depression, subsequently provoking a rise in self-harm rates. Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 written in 1953, gives us a glimpse into the future in order to display the screen-obsessed and censorship - filled society in which the main character, Montag lives. Bradbury was able to predict technological advancements and their destructive effects on future civilization including screen addiction, loss of personal connections, and the depersonalization of war.
In today’s world, many people believe that technology’s sole purpose is to draw young people away from the real world and reality. Just because you do not realize it, it does not mean it is not happening. If you think back to when you were younger, was technology the same as today? However, technology is forever changing and improving. It affects everyone, not just the young group of people. Technology changes our brains, souls, and our very being. Once technology sucks you into the whole of its essence, you will have a hard time changing your life style.
“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury deals with some of the same fundamental problems that we are now encountering in this modern day and age, such as the breakdown of family relationships due to technology. Ray Bradbury is an American writer who lived from 1920 to 2012 (Paradowski). Written in 1950, “The Veldt” is even more relevant to today than it was then. The fundamental issue, as Marcelene Cox said, “Parents are often so busy with the physical rearing of children that they miss the glory of parenthood, just as the grandeur of the trees is lost when raking leaves.” Technology creating dysfunctional families is an ever increasing problem. In the story, the Hadley family lives in a house that is entirely composed of machines. A major
They are so dependent on the Happy Life Home that their own parents are rendered valueless to them. On the other hand, perhaps consumer technology is just too powerful and addictive. Bradbury’s story might as well describe today’s culture, in which children and parents alike watch TV during dinner, text message during conversations, and are constantly distracted by their technology. One would rather be in front of a screen than another human being.
“We’ve given our children everything that they have wanted. Is this our reward-- secrecy and disobedience?”(Bradbury). In the futuristic short story, “The Veldt,” written by the the well-know author, Ray Bradbury, two parents, George and Lydia have purchased a house with artificial intelligence; as a result, it has done everything for them and their kids, Peter and Wendy. Artificial intelligence, or AI, is known as any work brought forth by technology-- including machines, computers, etc.— and is becoming more relied on by the human race. According to Or Shani, the CEO of Adgorithms— the first company to develop and use AI for marketing— dates signs of AI back to Ancient Greece; however, for a long period of time, it was overlooked and not valued much (Shani). As we
Imagine you 're in a silent dead house The only noise you hear is yourself breathing. You hear yourself breathing in and out as you walk around with everything off. You turned everything off and it feels like there 's dead body everywhere. Your kids are begging you to turn everything back on not wanting to leave the nursery. This is what happens in the book “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury is about the family and their kids have this room that is called the nursery. In the nursery the point is to travel where ever you want but you stay in the house you just see what is looks like. Their kids Wendy and Peter don 't use it for that reason. They only go to one place and one place only and that is Africa. One thing that happens in this book is that the kids are too obsessed with technology like the nursery which is to learn about other places and what they they look like and what it feels like, but that’s not what they do and things are getting out of control with them always visiting Africa.
As time goes on our technology is advancing and slowly starting to control how humans are acting and taking over jobs, human interactions, and how people use their time. In the novel readers see how Bradbury uses technology to show how it takes over people and how they think or feel about themselves and others. Ebooks, social media networks, automatic cleaning tools, and robots are just a few items that have been created to make life a lot simpler and less work for humans. Today in society people choose not to use critical thinking but instead are using technology to replace what they're supposed to do for themselves. People are using technology to replace books and everything else they're doing.
In this fast-paced society where our lives are surrounded by technology and it is a part of our everyday lives, it is of the utmost importance that we consider and are able to understand the role of technology, not only on our lives but also on society. In his 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451, author Ray Bradbury demonstrates the damaging role that technology has on society. Throughout his novel, he constantly reinforces the negative impacts that technology has on us, namely how it replaces meaningful relationships, keeps us oblivious and controls us. As stated, Ray Bradbury uses the novel Fahrenheit 451 as a canvas to show and argue the negative role that technology has on society.
In a story, the tone is often more important than any other kind of Author’s Craft. This is best seen in the short story The Veldt by Ray Bradbury The most prominent of all being Tone/Mood. All throughout the story are tiny clues and hints about the end fate of the parents, and the inner minds of their children. Through the story, they hear eerily familiar screams coming from the Nursery. While there is still tons of tone, there is many other kinds of Author’s Craft in the story. For instance, there is metaphors of how technology can take over your life and vivid imagery. Each detail is made in a creepy way, designed to bring chills up your spine. Every dialogue has a worried tone, from the parents fearful for their lives and children, to the ending words of the story. The story is absolutely saturated with tone.
Contextualization Raymond Douglas, known as Ray Bradbury is an American fantasy, horror, science fiction, and mystery writer. Bradbury was born in Illinois in 1920. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1938 but he did not attend college. However, he thinks libraries are much more important than colleges and universities.
The lions represent the parents in The Veldt. This is because the lions, and the parents, were doing what they wanted, until they realized that something else should have been done. The sun represents the strictness of the parents. The hotter the sun gets, the more strict the parents become. Symbolism plays a major part in the story.

The current generation of children is completely different than the preceding ones. They are living in the digital age. “Technology has blended in with daily activity to become a way of life and children today take for granted all of which is automated. It is hard for kids nowadays to imagine a world that existed without all of the gadgets, electronics and seamless operations that computer technology provides.” (3) “Children in the United States devote some 40 hours a week to television, video games and the Internet.” (12) Many psychologists and researchers are concerned about the impact that technology has on children. Children, tomorrow’s future parents and leaders, are being consumed by the negative effects that technology had on their
Personally, I could not live without technology. I use it for almost everything I do. Some examples of technology in my life are cars, desktops, and of course, my phone. I use my phone a lot, some might use words like “religiously” or “addictively”. These people are not wrong, but there are reasons. My phone keeps notes, sets reminders, and lets people tell me that I am late for something. I use it for Boy Scouts, marching band, school, and recreational use. It has helped shape me, admittedly, into a bit of a procrastinator, however, it has also helped to keep me punctual and efficient. On the flip side, my phone can make me a bit anti-social. It lets me ignore conversations I should pay attention to, snooze alarms I should wake up to, and cheat on things I should.
