Over past millennia’s, when music was first coming to be recognized, there were many different types of instruments. Over many years leading up to today, types of instruments were created and perfected, for the most part. The different instruments created over time were the woodwind instruments, brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboard instruments, and one of those was the percussion instruments. The string instruments cover a multitude of instruments, there are orchestral types and even some that are plucked. Violins, viola, cello, double bass, harps, guitars, lute, and even ukuleles are just a few of the many other stringed instruments there are. The definition of a stringed instrument is a musical instrument whose tone is …show more content…
In an orchestra, the violas are center right on the stage to the right of the second violins, and to the left of the cello. The viola is the second in this section of instruments, it is played with a horsehair bow, and it is constructed the same way as the violin, though the viola is larger in size. The viola’s bow is a little heavier than the violin bow and the horsehair is a little broader. Its history is closely related to that of the violin, from when it was made and how it was made, but the main difference is the pitch of the viola is different from the violin. It wasn’t until the end of the 19th century that the viola gained the same status as the violin. The large difficulty was the perfect balance between size and ease of playing. Identical to the violin, the base creation for the viola was the viol, and the viola was bigger to have a better pitch. The strings on the viola advanced in the 19th century to steel strings instead of gut strings. This instrument is just one of the many instruments used in the string section of an orchestra, in modern-day life of people, despite its lower status than the …show more content…
The double bass is set up behind the cello, and viola section, on the right side of the stage. Even though the instrument is used in the string sections, it is not 100%, a member of the violin family, with the violin, viola, and cello. The bow is shorter and thicker than the cello bow. It uses a horsehair bow, and there are two types of bows for this instrument, the French bow, and the German bow. The French bow is used overhand, the back of the hand facing the listener, and the German bow is used underarm, the thumb facing upward. The French bow is similar to the cello, but shorter and thicker, and the German bow is slimmer, with thinner horsehair. The double bass is the only modern bowed string instrument that is tuned in fourths (like a viol), rather than fifths. The players are either standing or sitting, on a long legged stool, in order to play the instrument. The double bass is similar with the violin, viola, and cello in that it was created around the 15th – 16th century, off of the outline of the viol. The double bass is a hybrid in the viol family, it has violin specifications and some attributes that are not related to the viol. This instrument is just one of the many instruments used in the string section of an orchestra, in modern-day life of

Assignment #1 The influence of Africans in Dominican Republic music Dominican Republic is mainly known for Merengue and Bachata music, but there are other music forms that were played on the island of Hispaniola long before the music that most relate to that country. The slaves brought that music that is heard on the entire island and it was transmitted for over 500 years. However, most Dominicans do not recognize this music as their own because they consider it as more Haitian because of its African origins. Many have tried to disassociate themselves from their African-Slave background. Nowadays, it seems that more Dominicans are starting to pay attention to these forms of music.
The musical instrument, and directly related senses). Each of the spellings appears in Middle English without, it seems, an Old English forerunner, leading one to conclude that it is a closely-borrowed derivative of its Indo-European (perhaps Latin)

Cello is lower in sound range often played the melody and enriches sound. Harp is one of the oldest music instruments; it is played by plucking the strings whose pitch is change with foot pedals. Guitar is made of wood with hallow resonating body and a fritted finger board. Flute soprano with range woodwind instrument, similar to the flute but sounding an octave higher. Oboe soprano range of double reed woodwind instrument. English horn double reed woodwind instrument larger and lower in range. Clarinet is a single reed wood instrument with a wide range of sizes. Bass clarinet also a woodwind instrument with the lowest range of the clarinet family.
These instruments are played with a bow. The violin is the smallest of the family and has the highest range. The double bass is the largest and can produce the lowest tones of the family. Sound is produced on a string instrument by drawing the bow across the strings with the right hand. There are several techniques that determine the musical effect the piece will have. Pizzicato is a plucked string, vibrato is when the player rocks the left hand while pressing the string down, mute is when the musician muffles the tone, tremolo is quick up and down strokes, harmonies are high pitched tones, and plectrum is finger
It is assumed from paintings that the violin was invented around the 1500’s. The violin went through its greatest change in Italy from 1520 through 1650. The Amati family were central in the making the most changes in the violin. They also trained many others to be skilled violin makers. Some of these early violin crafters were Andrea Guarneri and Francesco Rugeri. The violin became more established by the 19th century. It included a bow, created by Francois Tourte and its weight, length and balance permitted the player to produce sounds in higher frequencies.
As stated in this paper earlier at first the fabrication of violin’s strings were with goat gut. Now they are created out of synthetic materials or steel and twisted with various metals. The strings are also strung tighter, about fifty percent. Back then people did not use a chin rest like they do now; in fact, chin rests weren’t even brought until the 19th century (Powers). The fingerboard and the neck are now longer than they use to be. Some other changes include that of the bass bar and the sound post; both are thicker than they were back
From beginning of this book, it gives readers clear information, Ossman introduces the building process of the violin and names of each part before he starts teaching how to build the violin. Due to this clear organization and detailed steps of making the violin, this book is relevant to my
A full orchestra, a group of musicians gather together to play classical music can be divided into four basic instrument types based on how the sound is produced. The first section is the string section - it produces music through the application of horsehair to the steel core strings. Duties of the string section include: Providing leadership via concertmaster, as well as depicting the style in which the piece will be played. In a full orchestra, the string section incorporates the majority of musicians. String instruments are crafted from wood and use metal strings to create sound. The second type is the brass section- it produces music through the air formed by the musicians which then flows through a series of piping. The power of the brass
