Child marriage, defined as a formal marriage or informal union before age 18, is a common phenomenon for both boys and girls, although girls are disproportionately more affected than boys. (author, 2016) Child marriage is widespread and Child marriage is widespread and it will cause lots of shortcomings and deprivation in their life. So child marriage should be banned due to girls suffering sexual abuse by their husbands.
There is no denying that child marriage should be banned. Because evidence from scientific research has shown that “forced child marriage is likely one of the severest forms of child abuse and it is one of the most disturbing violations of human rights and child rights. The practice of forced child marriage constitutes sexual servitude, abuse, gender inequality, threat to livelihood, all sorts of mental anguish and emotional distress. The continuous cultural and/or religious practices is an inadequate justification of forced child marriage continues to perpetuate a profound double standard that devalue females, degrades them to the status of an animal or an inanimate object sold at the will of men. In developing countries, one in nine girls (between the ages of 10 and 14) or 15 million has been forced into marriage.” (Miller, 2015, p. 3902) Any form of child marriage can be seen as forced marriage because children does not have the capacity to consent to the marriage contract. And if a children can’t be responsibility for themselves why they will can make a

In the article, Child Marriages in Sub-Saharan Africa, states the reasons and crazy expectations of child marriages. In Sub-Saharan Africa 39% of girls are married before the age of 18. Child marriages has spread throughout all of Africa. In West and Central Africa 42% of girls are married before age 18 and in Eastern and Southern Africa it is 36% of the girls (Child Marriages in: Sub-Saharan Africa). These number vary throughout the year yet they never drop to zero. It is a mass dilemma to outsiders yet in the depth of Africa, it a tradition that is hard to break. Daughters may be married off due to poverty or fear of safety. It is a custom in which the daughter does not have much control and marriage can be used as a leverage in a heated
Kingston, many girls are forced into marriages by being told it is the right thing to do. In summary, underage arranged marriages are very dangerous and unfair to the children who are placed under those circumstances while they haven’t even reached the capacity to comprehend what they want.
Child marriage in the States is a serious problem. The current law for child marriage states that you must be at least eighteen years old to marry. However, state laws make exceptions if minors have parental consent. Due to the lack of awareness in this topic thirty-three states and two counties in the U.S. reported that between 2000-2015 there were a total of 170,363 minors that were married. Of which, six were twelve-year-olds, fifty-one were thirteen-year-olds, nine hundred eighty-five was fourteen years old. Not only is this number increasing but it is also alarming. The main reasons for child marriage are poverty, gender inequality, tradition/culture, education, and insecurity. Most of the child marriages happen in rural or backward areas of the country. The main reason for this is poverty for sure. Parents who have a daughter but don't earn as much choose this method to give them a better life. For the boys, the marriage does not take place but poverty triggers child labor. Another main reason behind this activity is gender inequality. Even today there are lots of countries that consider
In the story “A Rose for Emily,” the actually chronology of the events that occurred happened in a much different order than the one that Faulkner told them in which allows the reader to get a better insight into the characters and the plot of the story. Faulkner begins telling the story from Emily Grierson’s funeral, but quickly switches into a flashback, a move he does often throughout the story, to begin telling the reader about Emily’s struggle with taxes and the changing of the administration of the town in which she lived. In this scene, Faulkner gives Emily the impression of her being older in age as she told the townspeople to “See Colonel Sartoris” when he “had been dead almost ten years” (2). Faulkner then again switches time rapidly
Girls all over the world are forced into marriages due to financial necessity, tradition and to ensure their future. Most of these girls married are at a young age: “One third of the world’s girls are married before the age of 18 and 1 in 9 are married before the age of 15”( “Child Marriage Facts and Figures”). The young ages of those being married reveal how crucial it is to resolve this problem. When child marriage occurs the parents of the bride usually chose the groom for their daughters; and these grooms can be three times older than the young brides. Some children are brought into the world of marriage at the of 8 or sometimes less depending on their cultural views. The following can be used to help reduce the impact of early
I also agree that the getting the law passed in a male dominated country. In addition to this, religion plays a big role in this problem will not be a simple task. One way is to start by raising awareness of this issue, and most importantly the girls and boys need to be educated about sex education. According to Girls Not Brides, governments should demonstrate their commitment to end child marriage by developing strong laws and policies, and putting the money and institutions in place to enforce
Millions of girls each year are forced into marriage as children, often to men several times their age. The rates of girls being forced into marriage under the age of eighteen in developing countries around the world is as much as one in five, and as many as one in nine girls are married by the age of fifteen (“Early and Forced Marriage – Facts, Figures, and What You Can Do”). While these rates are decreasing, the progress is very slow, and it is predicted that another 100 million girls will be married as children over the course of the next decade. Girls married young are not only deprived of
"More than 200,000 children have been involved in a child marriage in the last fifteen years," says Chris Baynes, an author at The Independent. When the words "child marriage," are said, I used to think of a third world country. I think of someone that I thought of as "uncivilized" or as "inhumane," but many people, including me, would be shocked to know that child marriage happens right here in our "civilized" United States. On top of the fact that it generally happens here, it is completely legal in twenty-five states! The other twenty-five states have minimum ages but the loopholes that those laws have are astonishing. Many of the laws loopholes, according to Nurith Aizenman, the writer of "The Loopholes That Allow Child Marriage in the
For ages, people have been debating the idea of human morality and whether or not at its core humanity is good or bad. This philosophy is explored in Cormac McCarthy’s novel, The Road. The road is the story of a man and boy living in a post-apocalyptic world. Some cataclysmic event has crippled Earth’s natural ecosystem, leaving the skies engulfed in ash and the ground devoid of much life. The duo aim to journey south as a way to escape being frozen to death in the oncoming winter. During their journey, the boy and man come across different people and places that give them a better understand of what humanity has become and where they stand on that spectrum. Throughout The Road, McCarthy revisits the idea of being the “good guy” when there is no longer a need to, “carrying the fire” as it’s detailed in the book. The dichotomy between the boy’s moral conscience and the man’s selfish ideals helps develop McCarthy’s idea of humanity losing its selflessness in the face of danger.
Child marriage is a marriage that occurs between two people where one or two of the partners is under 18. While boys are also married under the age of 18, girls far outnumber boys in child marriages. It is usually forced and occurs often to girls who are ages 12 to16 years old[2]. The husband is also often several years older than his wife, sometimes even
When one thinks of marriage, they think of two adults being in love and deciding to spend the rest of their lives together. To most, marriage is a choice, but according to the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), one third of the girls, under the age of eighteen, in the world marriage is not all they would have dreamt of. All around the world girls under the age of eighteen are getting married. Girls are getting married to strangers, to men drastically older than them and also unwillingly. This can be and is extremely dangerous. A person under the age of eighteen should not be allowed to marry simply because they are not mature nor developed enough to handle adult situations. These girls are having to be put in situations that they do not understand how to solve. Ending child marriage requires work across all sectors and at all
Child marriage is the marriage, usually forced but may not be, between one party of under 18 and another over the age of 18. There are many reasons for child marriage which can range anywhere from social or religious pressure to safety, either economic or physical, for the girl and her family. As well as how many families find girls to be economic strains as the families need to provide a dowry for the girl. Young women tend to not be allowed to work as they are considered worthless and a burden, especially considering that sons carry the family name and are seen as a sign of fertility in most societies. This is an
In the United States, many children under the age of 18 have taken marital vows. A lot of whom are young girls to older men with the approval of a judge and consenting parent. Why you may ask? The minimum age requirement to get married in most states is 18, but there are couple exception which allow for a child under the age of 18 to get married. The first exception is with parental approval most states allow children 16 or 17 to be married if their parents sign the marriage certificate. Another exception is with judicial approval. With a judge approval, the marrying party can be below the age of 16. That’s crazy right picture an elementary student no older then the age of 10 getting ready to walk down the alter on her big wedding day. I don't think they should allow someone under the age of 18 marry, partly because of the fact children are not even consider adults or are able to have sex until 18 may places. so, seeing them married would be a bit contradictory. Marriage is a bond of hearts and minds, there are several problems a couple can face when marriage happens at an early stage for them.
We cannot just condemn people involved in child marriages as cruel monsters—it is much a much more complex issue based upon ancient customs, poverty, and an overall lack of education. Cultures must evolve to understand that child marriages are dangerous and improper, and that women are equal to and independent of men. I have also learned that the issue of child brides is not widely known and that there are few books dedicated to the topic to be easily found. Future research I would be interested in about child brides would include answering the questions: What can be done to help educate people about the risks of early marriage and thus end the practice? What are the psychological effects of early marriage? How many child brides are readily accepting of their marriages? Are there places for wives escaping abusive marriages go? Why does early marriage so often occur in cultures that practice Islam? Where does the obsession with virginity come from and why does it
