The theme of choices we make can be long lasting does relate to today’s teenagers. For instance, someone can choose not to study and can make bad grades, which follows them when going to college. The student chose not to study and not to care about their grades; therefore, they made bad grades. This could make their GPA go down, and then colleges wouldn’t want them in the future. The bad grades could be long lasting and stay with the student through out high school and college. Furthermore, when teenagers decide to do something, like dropping out of high school, and they will not have a full education. This could be long lasting because they will have very little education. They will not have a high school diploma and will not be able to go
Everyone is destined for death from the second he or she is born. It seems dark, but living people are so busy prospering in their life, they cannot completely comprehend the idea of their own passing. With death comes the mysterious transition from life to death, which though is fated is incomprehensible. In Something Rich and Strange by Ron Rash, the story focuses on this mystery and how different people go about comprehending it. The literary elements are used to support and clarify the central idea of the complicated and intricate story. Story elements of symbolism and point of view in Something Rich and Strange further enhance and point to the theme.
The fiction “Recitatif” was written by Toni Morrison, which is a profound narrative and meant to invite and let the readers wondering to search for the buried connotation of the encountered experiences of the main characters, Twyla and Roberta faced as children and their reunion as an adults again. Some of the story’s meanings and values involving around friendship, race and abandonment began to emerge as the plot thickens, and also more additional messages got concealed and remain unrecognized until even the most last sentence of the story about Recitatif. From the very first paragraph of the story, there were few details that were not mentioned which required further deeper possibility and that produced the story extremely engaging for me.
Unbroken, written by Laura Hillenbrand, is a story about the life of a man named Louie who goes through many troubles throughout his life. His troubles are what make the story and really teach the reader. Throughout the story, the author explores a few personal issues that Louie had. Aside from that, the author also discusses issues that have to do with the time period in which the story takes place. With the troubles of the time period alongside the personal problems Louie had, one of the central ideas of the book is perseverance.
Out of the Past is definitely an interesting movie with a lot of things to talk about. I will touch briefly upon two main things I have noticed during the screen: the film noire genre and the image of the femme fatale.
In the book, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini was majorly obsessed with vengeance throughout the end of the book that his life was consumed by the quest for it. Louie felt as if the Bird had stolen his dignity at the POW campsites, where he was beaten, humiliated, starved, and stripped of his powers of self-defense. Louie was overwhelmed with his anger that the only objective he sought was to get revenge on the Bird. In other words, Louie was angered about his loss of dignity at the POW campsite, he wanted to get revenge on the Bird by killing him, and how Louie eventually forgives the Bird for what he did to him. These three reasons show how Louie’s loss of self-dignity in the POW camp was pursued.
“If you are alive, there is hope for a better day and something good to happen...” (pg. 54). Throughout the course of A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, we familiarize ourselves with the exceptional hardships that Ishmael has experienced as a child soldier, in Sierra Leone, and what actions he takes to overcome them. Despite the fact that Ishmael has been through these devastating hardships and that he became the fear that he himself feared, Ishmael is able to instill hope and keep the reader going through the themes of powerful memories, nature and redemption. He does this through the use of powerful memories that contrast the fear and danger of the war with the remembrance of the beauty of life. Furthermore, nature leaves the reader striving
Our circumstances do not determine our lives. Instead, our lives are determined by our choices. That is not to say that our lives are not impacted by the country in which we were born, the family which we were born to, or the tragedies which touched our lives. We are given a choice of how we respond to those things, and the power of choice means that the lessons and value of our lives is not determined by outside influences, but instead it is determined by our reaction to those influences.
Despite the effort of the immigrants, the wall will make it more difficult for them to cross into the United States. Priscilla Alvarez, an assistant editor for The Atlantic, explains, "For example, the San Diego sector, where the prototypes have been built, [apprehension numbers] dropped from 560,000 in 1992 to 68,000 in 2010. Notably, however, the number of border apprehensions is also on the decline" (4). This proves that the wall will, in fact, stop immigrants from crossing over into the United States. Regardless, immigrants will still find a way into the country. Hope when the water rises, you built a wall.” An important message prevails in both A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah (2013) and “I Lived” by OneRepublic (2007), taking risks without hesitation, being ready for all that comes. This song represents living life to the fullest, no matter situation, life goes on, never coming again. This would be an ideal song for someone in Ishmael’s obstructed position. “With every broken bone, I swear I lived.” “I Lived” by OneRepublic reassures people struggling to remember the gravity of living life to the fullest; reminding us to take chances and accept our legitimate identities, or a song of survival for people like Ishmael. Everyone encounters obstacles in life that they feel like they can't overcome. People that have 'resilience' can take these challenges head on, stay calm in any situation, and use their problem-solving skills to take advantage of the situation and get themselves out of it. In a section of "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, a biography of war hero Louie Zamperini, Zamperini is adrift at sea after his bomber crashed in the ocean. He is left with just the remains of the plane and two others, Phil and Mac. Louie Zamperini's key characteristics of resilience and the differences between all three men allow them to overcome adversity, and Louie and Phil make it out alive.
In ‘Abolish high school’ by Rebecca solnit, she writes “High school is often considered a definitive American experience, in two senses: an experience that nearly everyone shares, and one that can define who you are, for better or worse, for the rest of your life.” which means high school isn’t wonderful for many people, it has a lot of challenges for teens, maybe some of them ‘kill’ by pressure and challenges, it would affect their rest of life. The high school is not a wonderful place for everyone. People should skip it and escaped it that you would don’t be suffered by it. However I disagree with her, because I believe high school is a indispensable place for students. It is a place for students, they can find a great relationship and an unexceptionable place to learn. On the other hand, I believe the high school is the key to definitive teens who they are in an great way. For example, Teachers would shape everyone’s identity, make you strong to face challenges, and open child’s heart. For example, in my childhood, when I lived with my parents, I was happy to learn, because my parents always encourage me to learn. Also, they want me learn from mistake, because It is a way to learn. They want me to be someone. However my parents left me at 12 age, they have to work more hard to support this home. I can’t focus on learning, I was playing video games every day, because I think I was ‘release’ from my parents. I have no ideas about my future. There is no one like my parents to guide me , I feel alone and confuses. Until I was be a part of high school.The high school make me stronger and hopeful. Teachers guide me walk on the right way again, they talk to me about future and how wonderful thing would happen in high school. I

Ishmael Beah was a boy from Sierra Leone who became a soldier in the country`s tragic civil war. He spent nearly all his childhood running away from the war and eventually ended up joining the army. During difficult times, Ishmael always held on to hope to continue his life’s journey. In A Long Way Gone, the theme is “Always have hope”, and is shown through Ishmael Beah’s hope for a better life, to find his family, and through the rehab staff`s hope for the boy soldiers.
