With uncontrollable lust and desire, the effects can be devastating. In the tale “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, the effects of ignorance and incomprehension are perceived. With the protagonists Romeo and Juliet attempting to escape the adversity and tribulations set upon them, they face many obstacles along the way. All for the purpose of achieving the “love” they so desire. With society and their parents prejudice, they naively continue to face such obstructive circumstances to desperately fulfil their unhealthy lust. But inevitably failing, resulting in the emergence of sorrow and despair. With Romeo and Juliet not understanding that this “love” they believed in was only extreme desire, the two continued ignoring all social …show more content…
And with Juliet being only 13, naivety and immaturity also effected her ability to act with clear understanding. With the both not understanding that this “love” they believe in, is merely lust.
Secondly, feuding family’s and family beliefs. I’m Romeo and Juliet there were two family’s that the tale was evolved around, the Montagues and the Capulets. These two family’s were sworn enemies, having an extensive history of violence. This violence has resulted in the death of many. With Romeo belonging to the Montague house and Juliet belonging to the Capulet house, communication was completely forbidden, let alone intimate relationships. They both ignored this and choose each other over there family’s. Later on in the novel, the Capulet family had set up an arranged marriage between Juliet and Paris. With Juliet already “in love” with Romeo, she stated that she did not want to marriage to take place, with Juliet’s father responding that she must marry Paris. He stated “An you be mine, I'll give you to my friend; And you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets, For, by my soul, I'll ne'er acknowledge thee, Nor what is mine shall never do thee good: Trust to't, bethink you; I'll not be forsworn.” Yet she still disobeyed her father, choosing Romeo, not taking into account what she would do if the
How effective is Luhrmann’s film Romeo and Juliet as a modern day appropriation of Shakespeare's play you ask? Baz Luhrmann's appropriation of the original play of “Romeo And Juliet” is highly effective as it is modernized to meet the interests and expectations of a 20th century teenage audience. Throughout the original 16th century play, Shakespeare develops the themes of family rivalry and love. The theme of family rivalry has been implemented into the original play through the conflict between two powerful families in the city of Verona. Throughout his appropriation of the play, Baz Luhrmann successfully preserves the same concept of family rivalry but modernises it by portraying the two families as two large business corporations and brands who are constantly in competition with each other. Shakespeare implements the theme of love through main character Romeo being made to resemble and fulfil the role of a typical "Petrarchan lover". Luhrmann also effectively integrates the theme of love through his successful use of filmic techniques to illustrate the unbreakable love between Romeo and Juliet whose love resembles and portrays the characteristics of a 20th century relationship. Using these modern elements, Luhrmann’s film effectively appeals to the contemporary teenage audience whilst powerfully conveying the themes of family rivalry and love. These adaptations made by Luhrmann in his film create a more comprehensible meaning as teenagers can relate to the film with a
Often led by emotions, people are romantic and pursue perfection, as illustrated by Romeo’s character, but fail to recognise that such ideals do not depict reality, if not only part of it. While the line “stony limits cannot hold love out” (2.1.110) expresses that the Capulets’ walls cannot keep the lover, Romeo, out, it is simultaneously indicative of Romeo’s romanticised notions of love, where “love has no limits” – a disillusionment of reality as a whole. Given the above, though Romeo embodies a version of reality, and is not inferred as invalid, it cannot represent reality in its entirety. Romeo and Juliet’s method of love therefore provides an insight as to why it may not be as desired by some, despite the fleeting passion they

The way that people viewed marriage in Shakespeare's era of the early seventeenth century differs greatly from the way that people view it today. In Romeo and Juliet, the title characters possess a viewpoint on marriage that would be thought of as radical for the time period that they lived in. Romeo and Juliet’s desire to wed is driven by passion and love, but their elders view marriage strictly as a social position, without consideration for emotion.
The titular play of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare, suggests a very negative view of the human nature that in all its complexities, is flawed and hinders a very glorified subject of Shakespeare’s from ultimately prevailing: love. The faults of young love, a family feud and the power struggles within the chain of being are all complex products of the human nature that prevented a happy ending. Shakespeare stresses that the lovers were only driven to their suicidal fate by their young love in a very limited time triggering attempts to rebel against the wishes of their feuding families and the chain of being. Shakespeare utilises dramatic

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is one of the highest commended love stories of all time. Many can take away life lessons and morals about how one should not allow their fatal flaws shine through to cause grief and destruction to those around them. One of the two main characters, Romeo, has the tragic flaw of impulsivity; and because of this, is predestined to cause woe in the hearts of those whom he loves the most. The author, William Shakespeare, uses syntax and diction to create a melancholic tone, which conveys that, while one may try, they cannot escape their tragic flaw that will ultimately cause their demise.
In the beginning of the play it come clear that the two “Star-Crossed lovers” are from two conflicting families. For instance the prologue states Two households, both alike in dignity (In fair Verona, where we lay our scene), From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. (Prologue.1-4). This explains to us that the two families (The Montagues and Capulets) are of the same social standing, and are in a uncivil family feud. Later in the story after Romeo and Juliet have already met, Juliet cries out “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet.” (2.2.36-39) Juliet is willing to give up her family name to be with her love Romeo. After Romeo kills Tybalt, cousin of juliet, Juliet first takes the side of her family and rejects Romeo, but later taking his side. Juliet expresses her feelings by saying “Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband? Ah, poor my lord, what tongue shall smooth thy
Red roses have been a symbol of love for centuries around the world. The theme of love holds center stage from the very beginning in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the prologue, it says “...A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love …” From the beginning, it is known that the love and death of two young people will bring about the end of a long feud between their two families. One of the main versions of the theme of love in the play is love at first sight. At the Capulet party, Romeo falls in love with Juliet when he sees her across the room without knowing anything
When Juliet was at her balcony, she said “romeo, romeo! where art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (act 2, scene 2, page 2) when she says that she means why do you have to be a Montague and if you leave your name then we can love each other. That means that if their families were not enemies, then their love would not be forbidden. Another example is when the families found out that their kids were dead. It says that if their feud was not a real thing, then their kids would still be alive. (act 5, scene 3, page 13) what that means is that there feud was pointless and all it caused was death. That is why family affiliations was a major role in the play Romeo and
For centuries, the tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet has made people, young and old, weep. It's a tale of love's doomed struggle against age, tradition, society and hate. A story where it seems as if all the world opposed them. And yet, it's not the world that condemned them to their fate, but rather than own rash choices. Choices which resulted in murder, sorrow and banishment from the kingdom.
Love has a strong power in the brain that makes it as addicting as some drugs. Through studies and research on the brain action we can find how the brain acts towards love. Through numerous scans and studies the people with the longest lasting love/marriage are the people that don't “burn out” their love for each other early and instead take on their love slowly. Studies have found many pieces of new and improved evidence since the early 2000’s and this is one that has changed drastically. Romeo and Juliet starts off with only Romeo and his heartbreak. After his break up, Romeo is really sad and thinks his whole life is over. He goes to a Capulet party looking for the one that broke his heart and quickly gets his mind taken off that with a new girl, Juliet. They go through a lot in the 5 days they have together. The book starts off slightly romantic, but after the famous balcony scene, it quickly escalates into a tragedy. After finishing the romantic tragedy novel of Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, I have developed one claim in my mind. Juliet was not at an old enough age for her brain to be fully mature enough to make such a life changing decision that she did. She was young; therefore, such an event had a major impact on her brain and life.
