Bravery and putting others before yourself are the themes of “Rikki Tikki Tavi.” Rikki was a humble and selfless mongoose. His brave actions helped others in the garden. There are several situations in this story that proves this theme. Unlike many other characters a Rikki was brave. Darzee just hides from the snakes. Chuchundra hides during the day, and comes out at night to avoid danger. Rikki was new to the garden unlike some of the other animals. Rikki showed his bravery when he fought Krait to save teddy, even thought he was new to the garden. Rikki Tikki also puts other before himself. When he figured out that Nag was going to try to kill the father he knew he had to do something. He understood
Rikki-tikki recognizes an almost hidden snake caused by it’s similar color of the ground that he hides upon. Dust snakes have as deadly of a bite as cobras and their small size comes as an advantage, allowing them to turn unexpectedly in any direction. The battle between the mongoose and snake is what begins the trust of Teddy’s father, and makes Rikki-tikki a savior in the family. This scene also leads to the death of the two other snakes, Nag and Nagaina by giving Rikki-tikki the confidence to battle the other snakes. Which allows the critters to feel safe at home.
Rikki Tikki Tavi was a very brave soul, but he made some wrong decisions that made him act disrespectful. The snakes, Nag and Nagaina, caused a lot of disturbance that set Rikki off and made him act like he did. Rikki Tikki Tavi was a loyal upstanding character, but sometimes he acted in a very disrespectful manner. Rikki was a very disrespectful mongoose. Chuchundra, the musk-rat, was so scared to come out to the middle of the room because Rikki always threaten to bite him.
The story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is about the rivalry between Rikki, a small mongoose and Nag and Nagaina, two king cobras. A giant wave flushes Rikki out from his warm, cozy den and leaves him on the river bank near Teddy’s family’s garden. Rikki is taken in and cared for, by Teddy’s family. While exploring the garden he confronts two king cobras Nag and Nagaina. If Rikki does not kill the snakes, the garden creatures will fall prey to the cobras! This exciting story also became a motion picture movie. The story and the movie are similar in plot but contain some notable differences, including where Rikki finds Teddy in the bath and that Nagaina waits for one of
Rikki Tikki is a leader in this story. ’’’Darzee, if you have a grain of sense, you will fly off to the stables and pretend that your wing is broken and let Nagaina chase you away to this bush. I must get to the melon- bed, and if I went there now, she’d see me’’’(Pg 15). This demonstrates that he is a leader because he orders Darzee to pretend his wing is broken. This shows demonstrates that he has the confidence to take action. “Nagaina spun clear
Rikki was found by a river soaking wet by Teddy, a boy who wanted to have a funeral for him, and his family. In both the story and movie he was describe cold and wet; also he was found in the dirt. The family decided to take him home to warm him up and get him something to eat. During the movie the big man, Teddy’s dad, picked Rikki up at the river holding him with his nose at the man’s finger tips, and Rikki’s tail passed his wrist. While in the story it is stated “the big man picked him up between finger and thumb.”( Kipling pg.143) there is a difference between the story and the movie. While the movie isn’t an exact replica there still are a lot of similarities. When the family decided to bring Rikki-Tikki in to dry the movie and story have a difference. The story said that “They wrapped him in cotton, and warmed him over a little fire.” (Kipling 143). Although the movie was close it showed Rikki in the cotton but he wasn’t placed over a small fire. Similarities are plentiful in the movie, but there are some differences to look up to.
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was one brave mongoose who had the courage to go up against the fiercest animals on the planet, Cobras. (Movie)(Kipling 143) The story took place in Segowlee Cantonment, India in a house’s garden where Darzy the bird and his wife, Chucundra the muskrat, and the deadly Cobras live. (Kipling 143) The Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was a mongoose who got washed away from his home and ended up with a new family. He would would end up coming across three snakes in the large garden and killing them. Cobras, are one of the most dangerous snakes in the world. You must be brave to fight a cobra if you are not you could be snatched up any moment. Nevertheless Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the book and the movie are the same story they have differences such as the Plot, characterization, and the conflict.
Rikki-tikki Tavi took place in India in the late 1800s. Rikki-tikki Tavi was a brave, little mongoose who killed copra’s and Karait a venomous snake and saved a family from the snakes. Darzee, the tail-bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the musk-rat, who never came out into the middle gave him advice but Rikki did the real fighting. When Rikki-tikki was first trying to kill the copra he was scared, but then he remember that mongooses are known to fight and kill snakes. Rikki-tikki and the copras are natural enemies. Every time when Rikki-tikki would fight his eyes would turn red and fierce.
To begin with, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is a brave mongoose and will do anything to protect his family. For example, the author states, “Tricked! Tricked! Tricked! Rikk-tck-tck!” chuckled Rikki-tikki. “The boy is safe, and it was I—I—I—that caught Nag by the hood last night in the bathroom” (para 96). Rikki risked his life to distract Nagaina by beckoning her away
He almost kills Teddy, but Rikki Tikki at the last second gets into a skirmish with Karait and Rikki Tikki wins. There is a muskrat named Chuchundra that is scared Nag and Nagaina. He says to Rikki Tikki “Don't kill me.” (Kipling 149) Then Rikki Tikki explains that he wants to help Chuchundra be safe from Nag and Nagaina.
Because Rikki-tikki keeps trying to end the snakes, a muskrat warns him that he might be killed. Kipling is trying to suspense for the reader that there is a chance Rikki could die. To create the idea that Rikki will win the war with the snakes Kipling uses “At the bottom of his cold heart he was afraid”(Kipling 467). Nag the cobra may try to act like he will win, but he knows mongooses usually win. To add
Even though being self-centered is the essential moral, another theme could possibly be “size doesn’t matter”. Rikki-tikki-tavi was noble because he helped
In addition to the points above, Rikki-Tikki had made some very well thought out decisions of his own. To start off, Rikki had made the decision to not follow Nag and Nagaina into the bushes after Nagaina had just tried to attack him. If he had made the decision to follow them, he would have have probably gotten killed. Yet again, ending the story short. Another key point would be when the main character, Rikki-Tikki, had used the words, “Now, if I kill him here, Nagaina will know.”
An alternative claim might be, the bigger one doesn’t always win. Rikki-tikki battled the two cobras that were bigger than him. He came out with a win, Chuchundra was frightened he was gonna get killed by Rikki-tikki. He was frightened because he saw how little Rikki-tikki was and he was able to kill Nag and Nagaina. Chuchundra was even frightened to run out into the middle of the floor and face Rikki-tikki at Teddy’s house.
Rikki wants to fight back so he ca protect his family. Rikki's feelings change a lot during the story. First He is okay with Nag, but at the end he is disappointed at nag for trying to kill him and his family. The author use this point of view so that you can understand the
One reason is because, he does not have feelings for his “saviors”. The humans that have saved him with the bungalow have a feeling of gratitude to Rikki but he does not have any for them. As Rudyard Kipling states “‘... I suppose he's so tame because we've been kind to him.’
