The book the Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The Great Gatsby was written about the summer of 1922, by the view point of Nick Carraway. However, the main focus was on Jay Gatsby. The theme of the Great Gatsby is how the American dream is almost impossible to achieve and if achieved, happiness isn’t always brought to one’s life; this is supported by the symbols of Gatsby’s mansion, the green light, and the color yellow. Gatsby’s mansion is one of the high and the nicest houses in a West Egg. The location of his house represents new money, high arch in society. However, his house is empty, and allows guests to stay there just so it won’t feel as empty. He also throws many elaborate party’s to keep his house full of life. Nevertheless, Gatsby himself doesn’t join his own party’s. This is because he Is too preoccupied with the thought of his life dream. This dream is like the American dream, as one try’s there whole life to achieve it. When Gatsby Finally achieves his dream of being with Daisy once again, his joy and happiness is only short lived. This is because “I suppose the latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife. Well, if that's the idea you can count me out” (Fitzgerald 137). Since Tom was there his dream was short like. Just like the American dream, many try very hard to achieve it, but when they do, no such things change for many. Some make it big and get more money, however some just end up lonely and sad. This dream they have dreamt about was talking and seen as bigger and better than it actually Is. The falsification of the American dream tricks many. As Gatsby achieved his dream it soon becomes non existent as Daisy doesn’t call him and stays with Tom. Even as Gatsby is murdered, he died lonely and hopeful of a dream he had achieved, but was lied about his whole life. The green light can relate to this also. The color green represents hope, and that hope was to be with Daisy again. To Gatsby this green light represents the distance between himself and her. As he bought the house so he could be right across the bay from Gatsby just to be able to think the dream was possible and insight. As Nick helped Gatsby achieve that dream it
