Things That Impacted My Life

After being dropped off from dance late at night, I was expecting to walk into a silent house where everyone was asleep. Instead, I walked into my living room to find the rest of my family sitting on the couch with the television off, which was strange for my family. It was clear they were waiting for me to get home, so I sat down too. My mom and dad exchanged a look and a sigh then turned back towards my brother and me. We found out about my mom finding a better job a few months before the end of the school year. We planned on moving soon after my sister and I got out of school for the summer. "You'll be alright, Beka. This is a great opportunity for you to make new friends" my mom said when she broke the news.. When my mom told me we were moving she said were moving to a small town, but she never really told me how small the town was.

When I was about 11 years old I moved to Canton Michigan from Las Vegas Nevada. It was a dramatic change in my life. Not only is it quite a distance from Nevada. But there was also a different outcome that were made from the people to the weather and not being able to see my dad anymore.

In that summer prior to moving in the fall, I grew anxious and eager. My friends slowly began to move to their new colleges and I thought to myself “wow, this is really happening!” Unfortunately, my sister and I (we are twins) started school on the same day so our parents had to split up and take me to California and her to New York. My mom traveled with me and I remember us sitting in the airport waiting for our flight watching my last sunset, and she said “I am so happy for you. I know you will enjoy this.” I knew I would

When I was about four years old my dad was still working in the military. Then one late afternoon my dad calls a family meeting in the dining room then BOOM he tells us that he got a new job offer and that we’re moving virginia. I didn't really know what that meant cause I was 4 but my sister was devastated Because she had tons of friends at school and at home and she liked it. So we packed our bags and set out to virginia.

My Father is an Air Traffic Controller in the military and he had been given word that he had been given orders to move from Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska to Eglin AFB in Niceville, Florida in two months. I remember when my parents told me that we were moving. I was sitting in the living room with my sister when my Dad and Mom came and joined us to break the news. Once they sat down I could tell something was wrong, I could feel my heart racing and the temperature rising. Once they said the words, “we are moving to Florida” I could feel my heart sink because that meant going to a new school, new friends and no more spending time with my family. Alaska was my home and I never thought we would leave. I was scared for what the future held, but I had no idea that it would make such an impact on my life and shape me into the person I am today.

One example of adversity that has impacted my life is when my mom was diagnosed with Lupus in 2015. Lupus is an inflammatory disease that is caused when the immune system attacks itself. My mom also has rheumatoid arthritis and chronic migraines. There are a lot of times where she can’t get out of bed because she’s so sick. However, she always makes it to all of my activities. She truly is one of the strongest and most loving people I know.

While living in Oak Forest my life was as simple as it could be, I had many friends and family there with me so I always was able to do fun activities with my friends. School was very simple and easy, I didn't have much homework and I had a good amount of friends there. I was very content with my life at the time, then it happened. My mother tells us that we are moving to Orland Park which I couldn't believe. The only bright side I could see of the situation was that I knew some friends from Orland Park so that meant that I wouldn't be all alone. Other than that I was devastated, I was leaving the place where I've spent 13 years of my life in, the only home I've ever known so of course there are going to be emotions all over the place for everyone in my family.

The years were 1984 through 1986. My age during those years were 8-10. Ronald Regan was president during those years. Other key things that happened during that time that influenced my life were, in 1984 we traveled to New Orleans to the attend The World’s Fair. I was with my family and enjoying my childhood and having a great experience that I didn’t think was that significant.

After my grandma got sick, we went to visit her in _. after that I heard my dad talking to mom about moving there to be closer to his family. I was hoping my mom would talk him out of it, but when they sat me and my brother down I knew they had made their decision. We were moving. To France. I felt sick to my stomach.

Two main things that have affected my achievement are when my father had an accident at work, while he was trying to fix a machine. Hydraulic oil was in his left index finger. He was rushed to the emergency room and flew to Mayo Clinic, and after he was finally released from the hospital. During his time at the hospital and 4 months later… I had to get a job and provide food and money to my family. It was difficult at a full time job and full time school. I was always exhausted from everything.

There are many different life changing events that can change your life. Sometimes things happen in people’s life and they can’t do anything about it. Changes can be good and sometimes it can be a terrible thing that results in a positive turn in one’s life. Change is a part of life that no one looks forward to. Everyone’s life changes at some point. Life is full of many unexpected challenges that will be thrown in your face at any place and any time. People learn and grow from every experience that they go through in life. Some of the events that have changed my life was losing my grandmother, graduation, and going to college. Changes come almost every day in my life.
